I have 3 rats as pets, they're clean animals with paper white fur and they're picky eaters since rats can't vomit, so they're very cautious
They don't touch their food if it's been too long, Asmon is still going to have the Asmon stench, they wouldn't risk it. Cockroach is definitely a safer meal option for a rat, even if it requires catching

They're crazy intelligent though, they know how to open their cage - they just like it in there, but sometimes they open the 2nd floor door and just smell the air and look around. They're extremely curious and collaborate. They groom each other too to make sure they're clean - they even throw the trash out of their burrow so it doesn't rot inside their home, I'm just collecting it the next morning every day and throwing it out. So practically the opposite of Asmon

Yes, and I can't stress it enough - they even smell like fresh wheat, the rats are another league compared to him and he could learn a lot about hygiene from them 😭
If you just leave a small pot with water they'll use it to wash themselves, but even if they don't use an actual bath they'll still smell fresh unless their cage is absolutely filthy. But other than changing their absorbent cellulose fibers (you put them down so they have somewhere to pee, their poop is dry so it doesn't smell by itself) and hammocks every 2 weeks you don't need to do much. They always try to have the filth as far away from their nest as possible, but they still sleep on their dry poop sometimes, as somehow a literal mountain of shit is more comfortable for them than the expensive hammock I bought. But oh well, it's an animal, could be worse - I never saw them eating poop, lmao

If they're dehydrated it smells more, so make sure you have lots of water for them, but if you have something it can absorb like cellulose it's mostly OK. You still need to clean those wooden platforms for them, as there's pee on it, it gets out with soap and hot water with some brushing, then the smell is 99% gone - if not try a little bit of bleach or hydrogen peroxide
Even when it was at its worst I could smell it when standing directly over it and nearby, but not in the general vicinity. The hammocks smell the worst imho, so you need to replace them with fresh frequently, but a washing machine on high temperature will take care of it - if the bottom of the cage starts to smell between full cleaning every 2 weeks, just throw more cellulose in there - fresh cellulose means extra liquid can get soaked up and rats will throw out the most used up stuff where it doesn't concern them, you can take the heap out too

If this rat was used to help study cancer, do you have any concerns over microbial growth resulting from the use of cellulose? I work in IAQ and specialize in mycotoxins, we’re trying very hard to lobby against its use because every test nearly comes back positive for nasty mycotoxins like trichothecenes and aflatoxins which absolutely effect the health of rodents since we too use them for research. It doesn’t matter how much borates are used in pretreatment either. If this is a serious lab setting, I’d highly encourage you consider a new material.

Haha, will do, they love scritches, tickles (they can actually kinda laugh, this is pretty much the only sound they make apart from the scrëm if another rat does something bad, never made it at me, and yes the giggle is a friendly sound, each has its own giggle and you can tell them apart by it) and we spoil them, not many rats tasted true Japanese wagyu along with best Polish kefir, but those definitely did. They'll be 1 year old on 12th of August, we'll be asking for a special cake to be made for them too. Fun fact - they hate fast food for some reason
Oh they're 100% far away if you mention the Mississippi river lmao, they're from an experimental biology institute in Warsaw PL, then they had a 400+ km trip to my home in Wroclaw PL - all 3 are retired lab rats, born on the same day, with the same exact genetic make-up of a single European research strain. I'm lucky to have them, they have excellent health so far (I'm making sure they're not obese), maybe they'll make it past 2 years, we'll see, but we're definitely trying to make the most out of it!

Hahaha, yeah, I'm totally taking care of them like they're retired explosive dogs - you know, I'm the ultimate rat heaven sendoff along with similar volunteers. It's really cool because you can see the animal opening up, obviously the research environment is more stressful to them than home where they wake up whenever they want, can hide wherever they want and we aren't picking them up when they don't want to. The food is a bonus too I guess, they were eating healthy but definitely not this well haha

He was always kind of an idiot but he was direct and genuine and always stated his logic, which was enjoyable if only because it was pretty consistent and had a sensible flow even if it was basically the logical equivalent of a car crashing cuz the driver doesn’t know how to read road signs, but more than anything he was just chill.
He hit it big w the depp vs heard stuff - during the trial’s start the audience was generally 1/3 apolitical/moderate, 1/3 liberal, 1/3 conservative, but he started feeding off the conservative crazy energy and shifting right every time.

Id watched him very casually for years when he was exclusively a wow player. He is the living stereotype of an MMO gamer and he was good at engaging with chat and advocating/coming up with fun things to do within wow even while it was getting stale.
Despite what hes turned into in the past 2 years or so, i still think he is (or at least was) pretty smart guy thats capable of a surprising amount of insight.
He knows how to put on a show and plays into his absurd lifestyle and turns in almost into an exhibit at the zoo or something.

It's hard to explain. He always felt like he had a reasonable and measured take on different issues. He would talk about diversity positively and lgbt issues in a calm and mature manner. Then around the time of covid, he pivoted hard into culture war stuff, especially when the Johnny Depp trial happened.
Before then, he would often talk about how a lot of in cells blame women for problems that the incels themselves cause. He was very anti-incel. I honestly thought he was a pretty good role model for most kids. But after the Johnny Depp trial, everything changed. For me personally, the Elon Musk Nazi salute was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
If you watch videos of him back in 2017, 2018, 2019, I'm telling you that he felt like a totally different person compared to today. It's sad to see someone fall apart in real time.

At the end of the day, we are all animals, and not many of us have a functional enough brain to behave otherwise.
Covid caused the social realm to completely disappear for many people, and the subsequent nonsense that replaced it, broadcast propaganda and text based communication, completely rewrote people's social rules and expectations. Whether they like it or not, it was a great reset, and now they have to restart from absolutely nothing.
Unironically, I think reconnecting with philosophy would help people reconnect to what's important in life, just by having another voice speak to what is important. You don't have to be a war mongering nietzschean or an ascetic to act with meaning and purpose.

I theorise that people have become so polarised from COVID and the explosion in online discourse that they generally make the assumption that at least 50% of the population is diametrically opposed to their world-view and therefore are undeserving of courtesy and respect.
Couple this with the common trait of all living creatures to be suspicious of others and to reject newcomers until they meet an arbitrary criteria of social proof and you get a huge up-tick in poor behaviour whether it's failing to indicate in a car, cutting people off, or having your phone on 300% brightness at the cinema.
We have always been egotistical and self-serving first and foremost because it benefits the drive for survival, but now more than ever we have ideological justification for those behaviours.
But that's just my opinion, I am not a sociologist.

I was a sometimes viewers of his videos too. He’s far from stupid, as he never really slipped into commenting on real world issues and revealing just how disconnected he was to real life politics. I believe I specifically became aware of him via my desire to learn about diablo 4 as a new player in that franchise. I watched his videos regularly for a few months in 2023-24. One that particularly struck me as great was a dedicated video to his mom and the tremendous role she played in fostering his childhood obsession with games and promoting his desire to be a content creator. She wasn’t ashamed of her hermit loser gamer teen, she’d play WoW with him too! I thought right then that’d I’d be a long time viewer of this guy. When he was just a gamer talking about games, streaming, or whatever he was actually genuinely entertaining. Putting on in-game events, getting involved in random drama, and just kind of being a stoked gamerbro. While there's a lot you can say about his personality now, one things for certain is that he just has a way of talking to his viewers in an engaging way. So when he was actually putting in effort into his streams and OTK as a brand, you could understand why people watched.
But with his mothers declining health and later death, his friends disappearing one by one either due to their own mistakes or Asmon's personality shift, and the complete down fall of OTK, I feel like he just decided it's time for the mask to come off and to show the more repressed side of his personality. Which is what we see now. A deluded guy with no friends, all the money in the world, alone to himself in a house he basically treats as a shrine to his dead mom that's falling apart, and believes he owes the world and those who disagree with him nothing.

Back when he played wow (literally 10 years ago holy shit) he had a fun persona and always doing community events. Ehh it was a few months ago, long story short the dude was affiliated with a pro-Palestine college group and was signed to be deported by Marco Rubio.
The case is still being fought in the courts. There’s a fairly strong argument that the legislation that’s being used to deport Khalil (and many others) is unconstitutional, and is a breach of executive power. I agree with this notion and don’t believe the law should be in place.
Asmongold however looked at the first headline he saw, claimed something along the lines of “people who immigrate here shouldn’t talk shit about America, if you don’t like it, leave” and didn’t say anything about the actual issue.

I had an epiphany when I just checked the "video" tab of the leftist content creators I follow. Hasan obviously, Vaush, then commentators like Adam Mockler, Luke Beasley, Brian Tyler Cohen, David Pakman, hell even the Daily Show.
I enjoyed their content unironically, the way they mock the Republicans and Trump. But I sometimes worry how absolutely sure I was that they're right. Like, that has to be dangerous, right? But I don't really care.
Sometimes I go check if Asmon covers the bad shit that happens w/ the GOP, that these channels I mention covers. Nope, totally different echo chamber, can't alienate their own audience, I guess.
My question is...who do I listen to? What kinda centrist wins here when the people I wholeheartedly agree with call centrists closeted fascists?

Let's be honest here, dunking on Trump and the remaining GOP cult is incredibly easy, no matter who does it. But if you look more closely to your list, there's pretty big differences between Hasan and Jon Stewart for example in what they stand and advocate for. I assume Stewart would probably be a "centrist" in Hasan's eyes for even platforming Democratic party members.
The term "centrist" is dumb and has no real meaning. Right wingers(like Asmon) use it to appear as moderate to reach wider audiences, but never bothering to reach middle ground or consider different perspectives, while radical leftists(like Hasan) use it to bully moderates, if they're not fully down with their radical partisan politics.
Outside of that, I don't see many people declaring themselves centrist when asked about their political views, but that could easily be my blindspot, I wouldn't know.
The answer to your question is you make your own critical judgement on everything and everyone based on the information you have. It's not always convenient, it's sometimes exhausting, but it's better than to just blindly subscribing to the Arby's of political ideas, aka Twitch/Kick.
If you happen to agree with leftist people more that's totally fine(which I usually do, because everyone has their biases obviously), but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be criticized, or that conservative perspectives are invalid by default.
These streamers will occasionally say some common sense things, and they will get certain topics right, but when you look further it's easy to see their problematic behavior and the perpetually pissed off, toxic audience they're cultivating.
