Neighborhood Q?

Hello! My neighbor recently started working for Werner and parks it in his driveway. Can anyone explain to me why his rig turns on and runs every hour for ~20 minutes at a time?

Werner driver here.
His truck is equipped with an auto start/opti- idle system. This starts the truck and runs it to charge batteries and keep the interior comfortable. Most likely, this guy left the interior comfort mode setting on if it's starting and running that often.

Thanks for the explanation. Do you know if Werner allows drivers to park their truck in residential areas?

I used to park mine at my apartment. Also, I would only run it manually once a day for an hour to avoid annoying my neighbors too much.

As long as their is video surveillance on the truck, then yes.

Probably his APU or opti idle kicking on to keep his batteries charged. He probably forgot to turn his inverter off and it's running his refrigerator or something. Maybe he forgot to turn the climate control for the sleeper off too. If you ask him he should be able to tell you what's going on and might realize he left shit set wrong or his inverter on.
Only other thing I could think of if his inverter and climate control are off is it's turning on to charge the batteries but it shouldn't need to do it every twenty minutes unless he's got shitbag batteries and works for a company to cheap to replace them or he's too lazy to send in a report that it needs new ones to get them replaced.

It may have an opti idle feature that runs the engine to charge the truck, or he may have an auxiliary power unit on it. An APU is a generator that’ll keep things in the truck like a refrigerator powered as the battery drains

The trailer or the truck?

Just the truck part

Truck is trying to keep the batteries from going too low but it shouldn't be going off every 20 mins

Look up a reefer trailer, if that’s what it looks like, it’s basically a big ass fridge that maintains a certain temperature inside the trailer. They’re a fucking headache to sleep next to. If it’s just a regular truck, he probably has auto idle on, probably has just ask if he can turn it off while he’s home.
