Fellow 737 Drivers - Coffee Mug Advice
Posted by CleanPilot@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 38 comments
Hey everyone,
Currently I am using a Yeti 18oz Rambler, but it is too big for the cupholder. Any suggestions for a lockable/leak proof mug that actually fits in the holder? Every time I pull mine out the cupholder itself comes out attached to the bottom. It is really annoying haha! Forgive me if I missed a post about this in the search..

Sorry to hijack this but for all the a320 Aviators: look no further. Ikea makes travel mugs that fit PERFECTLY in our dainty little cup holder. They're like $7. Best purchase ever.
Now back to your 737 gibberish.

Do you have the name, I am in Europe don’t know if we have the same products ? And I have had that problem for years 😅
flyingcanuck@reddit
In Canada, it's called the "undersöka". It's black with a yellow open/close button in the middle of the lid.
Keeps the coffee warm for a decent amount of time and fits nicely in the cupholder.
Someone at IKEA knew what they were doing. 😅

Thank you :)

No worries lol. Gotta watch out for each other in the important matters.

I wish you the best in your chase for the holy grail

I see what you did there 😂

I get the skinny 12oz mugs from Starbucks. They fit in the 737 cupholder and it neatly fits in my flight bag. I’ve never had it spill in my bag either.
Boeinggoing737@reddit
I had this mug from Starbucks on the 737 and it works great but it is tiny.

Sorry for hijacking this, but if there's anyone who has an idea for a travel mug that fits the poxy square cup holder on the ATR, will you please let me know? :)
PS. whoever designed that thing should be shot.

Wait what wait wtf, as a layman, TIL...airplanes have cup holders in the cockpit??

Thank you so much! Practical use, but blows my mind lol

Reminded me of this post where two 737 pilots got in trouble for using the throttles as a cup holder: https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/11vjv6h/two_spicejet_pilots_grounded_for_keeping_beverage/

I am obsessed with the fact you said '737 drivers' 😭 might be Aussie specific but I have the small Frank Green bottle - no gross straw or mouthpiece, fits in the 152, my car, boyfriend's car, handbag, coat pocket on a good day... Good luck!

I have a Contigo travel mug I bring to work that fits into the cup holder on the 73 with one caveat. Some of our planes have the rubber support grips inside the cup holder and some don’t. The mug still fits into the ones that do, but it’s a bitch to get out. The mug fits great into the holders that don’t have the rubber support grips inside. The mug is like $20 on amazon. Hope this helps.

The Contigo are nice because they absolutely don't spill, it's the first one I'm confident to put sideways in a bag or something and it just doesn't leak.
You do need to clean them well every once in a while .

Every once in a while is probably twice as often as when the coffee pot on the airplanes get cleaned. 😬

Thanks I'll check it out. I haven't seen any of the rubber stuff on ours.

Fits the 737 cupholder perfectly but if the cupholder were to somehow pop out and you didn't know it, it is also the perfect size to sit in the hole the cupholder goes in so it won't fall in and be hard to get out. It seals very well and keeps coffee hot an amazingly long time.

I’ve had incredible use out of my Zojirushi insulated mug. Damn thing seals perfectly. Never leaks in my bag, and keeps stuff warm for a very long time. Don’t know if it fits in your cup holder, it doesn’t the 320, but I just pour my coffee from the thermos in a regular cup from the galley. This is also great because I can get coffee outside security , pour it in the thermos, seal and lock it, put it back in my bag and I’m on my way back through security without holding a cup in my hand.

I use the older Costco 2-for-1 ThermoFlask top handled bottles. ThermoFlask
Also because of the aforementioned issues, I use the BrightLine bag with the bottle holder attachment. Easy access to the drink even if the smaller (older NGs) cup holders won’t fit the mug.

The Contigo should suit your needs.

I’m pretty sure they’re discontinued but you could probably find the tumbler style rambler to fit well

What I use. No longer in the 73, but I did use this in it and it works quite well.

I have found it easier to keep a mug in my flight bag rather than try to keep anything in that POS cupholder

What ever the hydro flask one is. It fits perfectly

My zojirushi mug fits perfect with or without the cupholder insert. Fully leakproof and easy to open and close one-handed for sneaking a quick sip on final 😂

Sttoke mug. Ceramic lined inside...
redcurrantevents@reddit
The 20oz yeti fits perfectly, I use mine all the time
shaun3000@reddit
Corkcicle Commuter Cup is a perfect fit. Ceramic coating on the inside. Quick press to click open or closed. Drink from any side. Stays hot or cold for hours.
CrankyGeek1976@reddit
That looks like a NICE mug!
shaun3000@reddit
I really like mine. I used to use Contigo. I like the simplicity of the Contigo valve a little more but this thing is way better insulated and I love the ceramic lining. And the full 360 lip is a good compromise between a lid to prevent splashes and an open top. You still get the olfactory hit but it keeps it better insulated and reduces the splishes and splashes.
mbgalpmd@reddit
If you've got a mug that isn't super top-heavy: pull the cup holder out, leave it somewhere safe, use the deeper wider hole for your shift, then put the cup holder back when you finish.
CleanPilot@reddit (OP)
Never thought of that. Brilliant. Thanks!
