Apartment recommendations?

Hello! My bf and I (22) are recent college grads moving to the Fort Worth/Dallas area for work. For 6mo he will work in Fort Worth, then at their Plano office full time. Because of that, we have been looking at the Richardson/Plano area. We know nothing about the area, but when looking for apartments, most of them have a mix of great and terrible reviews. ANY recommendations would be helpful, thank you!

Consider hello landing standby

Start by looking at map. Find office 1, then office 2, then your employer. Draw a triangle between the three. Make a list of apartment inside that triangle. Then come here in person. If pre-looking isn’t in the cards then book a week at a long stay hotel, and look during that first week.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
i’ve heard the traffic is bad. i think he’s commuting to FW for 6 months so we weren’t really sure if it’s better to be in between the two offices or stick near the Plano office he’ll be in after
Intelligent_Loan2058@reddit
Commuting is terrible here. Listen to the commenters advice above and choose a place within the triangle of y'all's offices. I live in Plano and have to drive into Fort Worth every other week and it typically takes over an hour each way and that's NOT during rush hour (typically I drive between 10am-3pm). I cant even imagine how bad it gets during rush hour. Honestly if I was in your position, I would stay in Fort Worth for 6 months then Plano for 6 months.
AbernathyKillMouse@reddit
Yeah agreed ☝🏽... I would 100% recommend for you to try to stay in FTW for the 6 months, if you're able. Fort Worth is super from Plano, IMO. Tolls, shitty traffic, miles on your car, and I'm pretty certain commuting takes years off your life.
Plano is cool, though. Best of luck 🤞🏽
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
an HOUR?! okay thank you both🙏
hondo9999@reddit
AT LEAST an hour during off-peak times, during rush hour expect 2 hours. Each way.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
2 hr traffic AND paying tolls🥀🥀🥀
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
babygurl you better pray nobody wrecks in the 183 toll. its one car e wide and bounded by concrete barriers on both sides...
DadDong69@reddit
Before I was remote I used to drive from Plano to las colinas and it took me 50-55 minutes on average during rush hours and over an hour during bad traffic. That’s a little less than 1/2 way.

Preach, lol
thereforebygracegoi@reddit
We lived for awhile at Northstar and Renner, so it was close to 190. My husband commuted to Fort Worth and even to Abilene. It was doable, especially because his company paid the tolls. We lived in the smaller part of Clearwater Creek, 2nd floor 2/2 with attached over-size garage. I think it was around 1600/mo? Honestly, no complaints.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
okay thank you!
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
commuting to FW??? lmfao 🤣🤭🤭🤭
and you wanna live in Plano?
Well you carpetbaggers are good for one thing. being good for a laugh.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
one office and rotation in FW another in Plano. like i previously said, not from the area and was asking on input
Theisgroup@reddit
Best would be to live in Fort Worth and then move to dallas. But if you don’t want to move, then the hot spot is near legacy west, but you’ll pay for the location.
The commute is what it is. You’ll downs over an hour from plano to Fort Worth. I did it for 18 months on a contract that paid for windshield time. You can use google maps and map from plano -legacy west to downtown Fort Worth. Check it at different time. My suggestion is, if his work is flexible go early and have early.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
Okay thanks! I realized his office in FW is actually closer to Irving. Might just have to live in between like Addison/Carrollton
Theisgroup@reddit
Be aware that close as the crow flys may not be closer as far as time in traffic
jaktharkhan@reddit
Just know that Apple Store is only in a few places in DFW.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
good to know thanks

Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
theres a difference between immigration and migration
is it really a guess if you’re listing off general different parts of the country?
I have obviously researched other posts, i asked because i wanted recent information (from people who wanted to give any advice)
Texas’s economy is successful because as a state they’ve invested so much into the labor and housing market, especially compared to other states' cities where an increasing labor force is increases the cost of living 20/30/40%.
you’ve never had to move for work before? lol
young professional is exactly what it sounds like... a young professional
bro came onto to beef w a 22 yr old. like I said, moving for work, any advice from anyone that wants to help is welcome!
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
giving tax breaks is not investing.
lived in dallas all my life. never had to move. sounds like you have a skill issue
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
Millions of people are moving to TX (who all have skill issues I guess?) and I'm not necessarily saying that is a good thing. The fact is that people are moving to Texas because billions if not trillions of dollars have been invested in infrastructure, construction, transportation, labor initiatives to try and make the city more affordable and economically diverse. we are moving because this opportunity will pay a higher salary than an equal job within our own state (PA). that's not a 'skill isue' that is the labor market.

Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
listen i hear you but also… if you’re not by Philly, PA is just farms and coal mines. i just want a good stable job and not to go into debt for a 200 sq ft shoebox and $15 beer like in some other places
Loose-Technology6622@reddit
In the same boat as Vegetable. Can’t wait to make it unaffordable for you broke loser!
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
u rage baiting or genuinely can’t read?
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
you are the one alluding tax breaks and investments are the same by repeating it. i agree tax breaks are short term solutions. that doesn’t change the fact the government has injected hundreds of billions of dollars into programs that are beneficial for the state of tx
Any_Garbage2598@reddit
Plano West will be a better area if that accommodates to your work commute. Currently at apts near Legacy and I love the area. The food hall is a nice spot for social events/ nightlife.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
i heard good things about the legacy location! also talking to an apartment locator today for local input
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
lmao trusting an apartment locator....
ahh to be young and naive and bushy tailed and starry eyed.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)

a famius western artist spoke of a group of people like this. a group of people owing no allegiance to any people or nation. one day in brussels, the next in paris, with no home.
sad
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
ahh yes because moving states highlights my lack of allegiance to the nation
roadsidegunfight@reddit
First of all…never say “Fort Worth/Dallas area” ever again. It is “Dallas/Fort Worth” or just “DFW”.
My advice would be to rent in the Carrollton area at first…I did exactly that when I moved to DFW in the 90’s. Convenient to almost everything, splits the distance between Plano and FTW.
You can find the right place for you by the time your first lease ends
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
my bad will do! this thread is scaring me away from being in a central location 😭
Ok_Option_6911@reddit
I just went to The Village aparentments in Dallas last night, and it is undoubtedly where I would move if I wanted to be around other people in their early to mid 20s. On a random Wednesday night, it was super lively. They have endless events and a bunch of restaurants, bars, entertainment, etc. Plano is almost entirely old people or family's with young children, no in between. On the street that I live on, I genuinely do not think there is anyone that is even within 10 years of my age.
One other place where I have seen a younger crowd is The Boat House in the colony. That one doesn't have all of the events and community activities that The Village does, but it is very close to Grandscape, which has tons to do.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
okay ty for your advice! a coworker recommended The Village as well
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
the village is surrounded by the hood in every direction.
Pitiful_Knee_4429@reddit
Honestly you should stay in Irving for the first lease term assuming it’s 12 months then move to Plano. Irving is pretty central to both
FabulousBullfrog9610@reddit
Kincaid at Legacy is great
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
okay ty! i read good things abt them, just some bad reviews abt noise and management
FabulousBullfrog9610@reddit
there is a bit of noise outside the building. we are located in a commercial/retail area so there are restaurants, etc. across the street. The midrise is 5 stories high and closer to the restaurants. The tower is a high rise and very quiet.although if you are on the west side, which is by the Dallas North Tollway, you can hear the highway inside.
Management is pretty responsive.
dfwuser2@reddit
If you can't get a 6 month rental in ft worth then stay in the grapevine area.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
okay ty! having trouble finding 6mo leases this soon so might have to do this
oakleafwellness@reddit
My then BF, now Husband and I used to live in Allen. He would sometimes commute just to Plano and it was normally a 30-45 minute drive to go 8 miles and that was 20 years ago. It’s worse now. You’re best bet like someone else said, is find a place you like and drive the commute to in the morning or drive it from in the evening.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
yeah that sounds like a nightmare, sitting in traffic for 2-3 hours after work. we will definitely try to do short leases instead of that commute
mistiquefog@reddit
Villas of spring Creek. Top quality living experience.
Just don't take any with the front door facing west.
Responsive management and they return the deposit in full.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
ill check it out ty!
Soft-Improvement-585@reddit
Bristol apartments? I stayed there a while back didn’t have any issues don’t know what it’s like these days
EagleSensitive409@reddit
Try Cortland Plano, Sheridan Park at spring Creek, and 23 hundred in Plano. But Most of the apartments here are below par and have maintenance issues. If distance is not a concern, then look towards McKinney, Allen and frisco.
Vegetable-Thing4917@reddit (OP)
ty, he got nervous cause the apartments have bad maintenance reviews. i’ll look in Allen/Frisco/Irving
