Does anyone know what this place is?

Right behind Trader Joe's in Lower Greenville. I've always been too shy to go in. Tried to search it on Google maps and the only information i seemed to find was a review that said "i don't have anything bad to say but what is this place?"
Silent_Debate_3065@reddit
Like others, I once went there because it was the only place I could find that sold a particularly exotic ingredient in an Asian dish I decided to tackle. Spent an hour at least talking with the owner and exploring. I left with a huge bag of whatever it was I came for, and a nice experience sharing stories with the gentleman.
You will need to step out of your comfort zone to fully appreciate the encounter.
RosemaryCroissant@reddit
I went in once and they looked at me like “what are you doing here”
Sufficient_Mousse991@reddit
Went in once with my wife, nothing in there but a few dry goods. Shop owner glued to my us as we look around. Then a dude that looks like, and was dressed like the tiger king comes out of the back room and keeps telling my wife and i that we need to "try their food" over and over again. Super weird experence. Everyone should go.
Golightly1727@reddit
After this raving review, I have no choice I’m def going
pagodamusix@reddit
Guero here. Love I go in El rancho or fiesta I get looked at like I have 17 eyes. Then I just randomly drop some fluent Espanol on the cashier and get an even bigger jaw drop. Good laugh sometimes
VinnyThePooh84@reddit
Super weird? Count me in.
nukin8r@reddit
Same thing happened to me, I was looking for an Asian grocer & the owner walked around with me throughout the entire store helping me do my shopping. When I asked for dried shiitake mushrooms, he went into the back & bagged them for me personally.
Level_Up_Digital@reddit
I love the ending to your comment 🤣🤣🤣
ladylucy77@reddit
I had this same exact experience here. Came to say this LOL
gerbilshower@reddit
ok but... did you try their food?!
fkin cliffhanger here man...
Blackflag1971@reddit
lol right on. You know what they say about cliffhangers....
CarelessSuspect2110@reddit
After this glowing review I'm headed there right now!

I love super weird experiences. Keeps life more interesting. I’ll check it out.

That sounds badass now I’m going for sure
Guilty-Ambition-4364@reddit
Love that
Science_Local@reddit
The other side of everything before you get to another city is what I'm talking about. Look at the map, that's not south Dallas.... And white rock, casa Linda, and lake highlands is not east dallas
Professional_Elk9443@reddit
A restaurant?
djt214@reddit
Really good food!!
DynastyTexas@reddit
Restaurant wholesale. That’s the storefront, but they have warehouses too. They have been there forever. Had a long conversation with the owner who was telling me about how east Dallas used to be where all of the Thai and Lao immigrants were concentrated at.
A_Homestar_Reference@reddit
what happened? AFAIK east dallas isn't particularly gentrified is it? At least the suburbs are still mixed near garland/rowlett.
JessiNotJenni@reddit
Incredibly gentrified, but it varies based on what you consider east Dallas.
broniskis45@reddit
Straight east dallas is where you get that housing meme of a dilapidated house next to yuppie townhome.
ADrunkChef@reddit
This this this. I grew up in East Dallas. Graduated from Bryan Adams. If it hasn't been torn down and rebuilt into a town home, it's falling apart.
Science_Local@reddit
I wouldn't call white rock lake east Dallas, you gotta be on the other side of I-30
ADrunkChef@reddit
The other side of 30 is Mesquite... I'm talking about that chunk of east Dallas between White Rock and Mesquite. You might not see the Mesquite city limit sign when you drive past Eastfield's campus, but you will sure as fuck notice when you look out the window.

You're not wrong on that one, my mother's friend runs the Thai Market in Abilene. I used to go help her restock her supply at places like these. We once walked into a place about six years ago that still had 3 liter Dr. Pepper.
Even_Language_5575@reddit
I can confirm that’s true. My best friend was from Laos. And that’s the area I grew up in.

JakeRidesAgain@reddit
Wholesale grocer for restaurants, but when I went in thinking they were a normal grocery story looking for tapioca pearls for boba, he cut me a deal on a giant bag and we had tapioca pearls for years. Was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had just checking out a random place I found on the internet.
Rebeccaissoawesome@reddit
It gives cash laundering vibes.
ilikeoregon@reddit
My first thought too. What it is on tax forms vs what it "is" might be two different things. Looks like a front for something and I wouldn't wander into any of those back rooms LOL
KingOfTheWolves4@reddit
I know I could google this, but do tapioca pearls not expire?
Also, if you don’t mind sharing, I would be very interested in how you make the milk tea portion of your boba!
JakeRidesAgain@reddit
I'm not entirely certain how to do boba, my wife wanted them after trying boba. The pearls I got were dried and I doubt they would have gone bad anytime before we could use them, lol. I think we got about 2 or 3 years out of the bag and then threw it out after a move or something.

Great place to source Asian ingredients. When I lived in Dallas I would get kiefer leaves and some curries I’ve never tasted sense….
Shout out to Nandinas which closed years ago down there….i miss Dallas.

TheGoodAdam@reddit
Friend went there years ago and bought something called a Mogwai. Old man gave him a ton of rules to follow which my friend tried to follow as best he could. Last I heard he moved to NYC so not sure what happened.
Treason686@reddit
I ran into this, too. Mogwai is some kinda exotic monkey. Dude told me not to feed it after midnight, but couldn't tell me what that meant in regards daylight savings time or when I could START feeding it because it's technically always after midnight. I dipped out cause it seemed sketchy.
WhollyUnholy@reddit
How odd. I had a relative named Frank buy a puzzle box from there. I think it was supposed to show him some insights into the universe. Haven't seen him in forever.
obeyrumble@reddit
YOU OPENED IT. WE CAME.

They should apply a fresh coat of paint on the front doors
Dizzy-Concentrate284@reddit
I went in there once. The cat pee smell was overwhelming
mittenss21@reddit
seems cute
Happyplaceforthem@reddit
Pretty much, I know you haven’t visited a place gone in there and looked at the menu and chose something to eat and eat there. That’s what I do know, what I don’t know is why you are asking about this place when you are I’m guessing maybe 50 yards away, could be more could be less I could be wrong anyways spread your wings a little bit go and see what it is
uncomfortablesmile@reddit (OP)
Social anxiety, especially if I'm the only person somewhere besides the owner. I have an irrational fear of going someplace, deciding it's not what I want, then leaving and wasting management's time. I know it's silly and i know where you're coming from but just wanted to have some knowledge about the place before checking it out.
libralady0123@reddit
It looks very unkept.
kingyogapants@reddit
Unkept? Do you not see those super cool trees out front ? I don’t know the name of them , but I think I used to put them in my sims yard on the sims 2 .
germhotel@reddit
There’s a tunnel that goes to that vampire jimmy’s vintage shop next to libertine
Myrtlethecat@reddit
voodoo chile? i was just wondering the other day if he's still there
germhotel@reddit
People have been ” just wondering the other day if he’s there” for like 300 years now
JudgeNo92@reddit
Don’t know
WileyBCoyote1@reddit
It’s a wholesale grocery for Thai and Vietnamese restaurants.
_WonderWhy_@reddit
I love how these comments making it sound suspicious yet recommend us to go...
TheRealMisterEd@reddit
Best place in Dallas to get a 5 gallon tub of green tea ice cream!
Sunribbon@reddit
Oh I definitely need that
jorgehn12@reddit
Looks like a restart. Maybe Oriental food. Maybe Thai food.
Mnudge@reddit
Go in and have a drink and an appetizers. If it seems legit, then have a meal :)
casiepierce@reddit
LOL!
Sudden-Guess7196@reddit
I know two people who went there for lunch and left in several different plastic bags. 5 stars.
uncomfortablesmile@reddit (OP)
The people themselves left in bags or left carrying bags?
FrankUnfilteredPod@reddit
It’s a SEX dungeon
Main_Bell_4668@reddit
Sex Cauldron. I thought they closed that place down.- Krusty the Clown
dehoc@reddit
That’s Thai Oriental Food restaurant
stutteringwhales@reddit
The only interaction I had with this place was when the owner nearly ran me over in the back parking lot. Guess I was walking too slow for his liking.
He then came up to my passenger door and demanded I roll down my window as he yelled he owned the lot and the house. I just held my hand down on the horn to make him go away.
I assume he had some pretty bad interactions with drunk Greenville people but was never sure why he directed so much anger at me that night other than wrong place and wrong time.
-thetrashman@reddit
Work right down the street from this. I see it everyday and have never gone in lol
Powerful_Basil_22@reddit
Def thought this was a restaurant.
bronzerabbitartifact@reddit
I used to go there to purchase Larb seasoning. Nice guy
csharp1990@reddit
I bought some fresh noodles and niche ingredients there a few years back. Overall had a good experience although it was a little bit dingy inside
No_Acanthisitta_1023@reddit
Been there. It’s worth a visit.
PumpkinCarvingisFun@reddit
Yes, I have bought Thai groceries there for cooking crawfish. Definitely feels like front give the value of that real estate but I got really good lemon grass, palm sugar, and coconut milk that I would have otherwise driven to the burbs for.
ElGranQuesoRojo@reddit
It's a small wholesale grocery store. I've been in to buy miso paste before. The guy running it was nice enough.
Mister__Wiggles@reddit
It’s restaurant wholesale but I have bought fresh noodles, curry pastes, fresh curry and lime leaves, and other ingredients you might not see in most grocery stores. The owner is very friendly once you get to know him but you should call first and explain what you want/tell him what you’re making/ask if he has what you need. Since he mostly serves restaurants, I think he gets a little wary of random people walking in to browse—and he keeps irregular hours.
Right_Letterhead_120@reddit
I doubt comments about this currently being open. I would be shocked if this is an actual functioning retail establishment.
I saw a man in a tiny refrigerated truck that says something like “seafood” go there in the alley, but the truck was empty.
rturns@reddit
When you want to make Tom Kaw soup and don’t know where to get Lime Leaves or Galangal, this is the place to shop!
Goetia-@reddit
I tried once and got turned away. The occupant was oddly suspicious of our inquiry. If we had known what it was and asked for a more specific item instead of just wanting to look around, we'd probably gotten in. But we were taken aback by it and haven't tried again since learning that it's a wholesale front.

Realistic_Try7123@reddit
Idk- it’s more like walking into an American European Cars- Chevrolet, Opel trucks or cars and finding out you have to buy at least five cars, they don’t sell just one.
autistic_orca@reddit
I’ve always thought it was a front but I guess I was wrong.
civil_beast@reddit
You were correct, in that they are b2b. You were wrong, in that it appears to be lawful.

akts88@reddit
One time the owner let me park in his drive way in the back. No block, no tow. $10. This was as before the TJ parking lot and all the other spots were taken up.
Sweaty_Structure1286@reddit
They have Thai and other Asian grocery items at wholesale prices. Last time I went it was cash only
Leosporin@reddit
Someone met their future wife there according to good reviews. So, sounds like opportunity knocking OP.
National_Draw_1587@reddit
its a wholesale grocery store apparently but they let in regular customers during the week in the afternoon
