Not Balkan but at least in Poland you can find different flavours of paluszki, like becon, sezame, onion and cheese, and these can get rather addicting.

Also the plain salty ones vary in quality a lot, I've had tasty ones (my fav Paluszki Beskidzkie ❤) and ones that taste like paper.

They are often recommended to eat when you have a gastrointestinal infection with vomiting and/or diahorrea to supplement lost electrolytes. I think here it helps that they don't have a very strong taste, like you don't want to irritate your stomach more.
