Was IBM DOS different from MS DOS? I can’t remember.
MasterControl90@reddit
161 and 163 are cmos error and while usually does not really matter in a PS1 these errors cause the floppy drive to do not work... so if you tried any floppy disk unsuccesfully it is not an issue with the drive but simply the cmos battery
RetroBastardo@reddit
I miss my IBM PS1 even though it’s impossible to upgrade it was one of most iconic computers I’ve ever owed

Should be able to play DOOM.
Doom8088 is a port of Doom for 16-bit PCs based on GBADoom. Right now, it's only a proof of concept. It supports only Doom 1 Episode 1. There's no support for sound, music, multiplayer, mouse or PWADs. Demos are out of sync and there are lots of crashes due to memory issues. To decrease memory usage, only one texture is used for every wall.
GBADoom needs only 256 kB of RAM. A PC can have 640 kB of RAM. That's more than enough to run Doom, right? Well, in contrast to a Game Boy Advance, on a PC the code, graphics and level data all use that 640 kB. To make it fit, for every rendered frame, every image is loaded from the hard disk into memory and after it is used, it is immediately freed to make room for the next image. The lookup tables for sine, cosine etc. are stored on disk, so for every calculation a file on the hard disk is read. (Maybe using a RAM drive could speed this up?)
RealDOOM runs it too.

Wow!
miner_cooling_trials@reddit
Seeing things like this has the ability to take us right back to the moment where we built those memories.
I had a PS/2, and I still remember what the tactile feel of pushing the floppy eject button. The sounds of the PC speaker POSTing, and those codes telling you to replace the CMOS battery and plug a keyboard in 😁😉
ic33@reddit
PS/2 was so annoying for software compatibility/upgrade cost, but there's no question it was quality hardware. Love that kerchunk.

We've seen the birth and eviction of home computing, and it's been a memorable journey!
sparrow_42@reddit
Yeap. One of my teachers got one of these and I remember thinking how slim and modern the case looked compared to the already-ancient IIc in another classroom that I was learning BASIC on (and had previously thought looked slim and modern compared with the OG Apple II next to it).
AnswerFeeling460@reddit
Yes thats true 😃
pm_me_bra_pix@reddit
So many nightmares of people sending resumes to my employer saved in Works format, which naturally wouldn’t open in Word.
et-pengvin@reddit
Obviously there are issues with both docx and odt but I'm grateful that open formats are so much more common now.
chandleya@reddit
It was less about being open and more about Microsoft being dicks. You could save Works as Doc or Xls, you just had to have the wits to choose to
zidane2k1@reddit
Looking great! If you replace the CMOS battery, you should be able to get rid of the 161 and 163 errors during POST. If you don’t plan to replace the battery (yet), at least remove it.
(Error 301 is no keyboard; I imagine you just didn’t have it plugged in at that time.)
chandleya@reddit
Seriously, take it apart today and remove the CMOS battery! They fail and kill the whole machine
AllishComedy@reddit (OP)
My cousin said he was able to play a few rounds of overkill on it so I don’t think it’s having any errors
TomRx@reddit
301, 161, 163 are errors on the press F1 to continue screen. The WordPress link is really good. I used it to restore my PS1
invokes@reddit
https://ps1stuff.wordpress.com/ has lots of great info for helping reconfigure it.
thevmcampos@reddit
It's beautiful 🥹
itsasnowconemachine@reddit
This, or a similar model, was my first computer. 286/1MB RAM/30 or 10MB hard drive, 2400 baud modem, and later the IBM sound card. There's an emulator for it as well, including the "quad gui" thing:

Forgot all about the PS/1. Memory unlocked.
1985_McFly@reddit
Oh man… seeing that first screen brought me right back in time. I miss when computers were this ‘simple’.
thomedes@reddit
Why wouldn't it? It's a true IBM from an epoch wbere they still did things properly.
ShyGal_Lilly@reddit
What monitor is that?
AllishComedy@reddit (OP)
The one that came with it? 🤷♂️
ShyGal_Lilly@reddit
OH ITS PART OF THE COMPUTER
0riginal-Syn@reddit
Wow, that looks like it is in near mint condition. That is awesome. Never had a PS/1 myself, but played around one at my girlfriend's parent's house.
CCTreghan@reddit
Overkill was cool
0riginal-Syn@reddit
Indeed, loved me some Overkill back in the day.
Retro-Egg@reddit
I had one just like those when I was a kid! Lovely little computer, although a bit slow at times.
alsoDivergent@reddit
I was selling these at mall based computer chain in high school. 1990.
Massimo_m2@reddit
i would sell a kidney fornit
DetectiveRonSwanson@reddit
Man this looks so good
Ancient2@reddit
oh that anti glare IBM VGA... mmmmm I need one
unrebigulator@reddit
They were from 1990-1994, which was only 30 years ago. I had PCs before then, and I'm a way off being a grandpa.
