TheAnishmal@reddit
Who do you work for if you don’t mind me asking? I’m looking into getting into food service work
SmurfSnuff@reddit
Me in the oilfield making $4k/week...
Prestigious_Cup_5265@reddit
Like being a selector but also driving. So you get the added bonus of you could get fired for an accident.
Kevinclimbstrees@reddit
Any job pays if you work 60 hours
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Idk man I've been in a salaried position making half this before while getting sucked into working 60+ hours. And other jobs I've had with good hourly rates don't let you get overtime. So Idk about "any job pays"
Kevinclimbstrees@reddit
Any hourly job. Salary is trash I worked a job like that before never again.
OrdinarySalary@reddit
I just interviewed at Sysco. Not afraid of hard work but 1 year of otr really took a toll on me lol.
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Completely opposite lifestyle. Almost an entirely different profession really.
Sweet_Pirate_7097@reddit
OK I'll bite. Is that good. What am I seeing here
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Paystubs? What's confusing
Sweet_Pirate_7097@reddit
Is that good for what he or she dose 🤔
Sweet_Pirate_7097@reddit
Is this like a restaurant delivery thing. And is that good money for that type of work. I don't do that so I don't know. Are we flexing or complaining
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
You're on a sub called "truckers." The weekly gross and net pay and number of hours worked are in the photo. I guess you'll have to figure out the rest.
Sweet_Pirate_7097@reddit
Sorry I see we're flexing..wow....you're a boss good job big dog.🤣
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Its not a flex it's letting other people in the field know what this specific niche pays
NewkidOTB278@reddit
Respect ✊!!…. I did food service for 9 years. Money was great, benefits were great. When I turned 40, I said that’s it!… Got a local a local gig for just bumping docks. Not a millionaire, but I enjoy life. And that’s what matters to me.
sambinoRL@reddit
When you say zero debt, did you pay off a house during your time in food service? If so, how long did that take?
NewkidOTB278@reddit
I’ve actually been debt free since 2009… I took the Dave Ramsay approach, If I couldn’t afford it, then I didn’t buy it. I did own a condo but sold it during my food service tenure… Also bought a gently used car during 2017, (3 YO low mileage), but I paid cash for it. That was the best feeling ever. During my food service job, my goal was to put away about 25% of my income, and it’s paid off nicely… During 2018, life happened so I left food service, took almost year off work w/o pay, But was thankful for the reserves I had set back to survive. It helps a lot though when you don’t have kids.
Pzab_@reddit
And hopefully you didn't mess up your knees or back,im on my 7th yr and my feet and kneea hurt really bad some days.im making good money, but i think im done..hopefully i can find something easier on the body
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
People complain about their knees and legs but wear shoes that are 2 years old, don’t stretch, eat like shit, don’t work out, don’t sleep 8 hours. Like yeah no shit your body is fucked.
Mirindemgainz@reddit
Yea I’m about to run a marathon and I throw cases all day. I could see myself doing this shit at 70 if I keep it up. But I was fit before and see the value in having a healthy body and mind
DukeBradford2@reddit
I ate ice cream for breakfast.
qnod@reddit
That's still a better breakfast than cold cereal.
Mirindemgainz@reddit
You do you boo boo
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
Good luck on it! I’ve never ran one, closest thing I’ve done is thru hiked The Enchantments in 12 hours.
But yeah how we take care of our bodies dictates how our later years will be. I always try and help people about nutrition, especially truckers.
Pzab_@reddit
I buy like 3 pairs of shoes a yr and even insoles..i use to run spartan races, i got to the gym 3-4days a week..and my shit still hurt 😅🤣
Emergency_Ad1152@reddit
You want to change them every 400-600 miles. If your tread on your shoes is gone, they need to get replaced. I’m not food service but I’m car hauling, the metal surfaces we step on tear through out tread so quick. Don’t cheap out on shoes too, get asics, brooks, hokas, or Onn. Check out Nordstrom Rack, it’s like an outlet with a whole bunch of running shoes for like 50% off. Currently got On Cloudmonsters and they’re fucking amazing.
NewkidOTB278@reddit
Thankfully I did not mess anything up. I wanted to quit before my body started to deteriorate….
sambinoRL@reddit
I like this kind of job to help me get my finances straight. Anything else it’s like you’re making money with no time to even spend it lol
Rag3QuitnRob3rtGame@reddit
My truck knee won't let me go up and down those ramps. Plus, I've done my time doing driver unload at DG
Cyfyclops3@reddit
69hrs.....
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Clock in at a quarter to 5am, home by 530-6pm. Only time I'm hitting that 70 is by offering to lend a hand to a frazzled new guy on a Saturday morning. Double time just to follow him in my car and help him get some cases off.
Theseus-Paradox@reddit
The joke went right over your head
Cyfyclops3@reddit
oh, I wasn't even making that joke. I'm just astonished by these people who brag about their paycheck, yet they're busting like 70hrs. For not THAT much more than I make with an avg 47hr/wk.
Theseus-Paradox@reddit
Oh haha, I have a bad mind then. And I agree, I always look at the hours some of these people post and are baffled by being proud of 12 hour work days. I work to live, not live to work.
Cyfyclops3@reddit
exactly. I have a life. My job is just about my bottom priority as long as I keep it. Work-life balance is already a joke in this country, I don't need to be wasting my life away for a couple hundred extra bucks.
Theseus-Paradox@reddit
Oh haha, I have a bad mind then. And I agree, I always look at the hours some of these people post and are baffled by being proud of 12 hour work days. I work to live, not live to work.
NostradamusJones@reddit
You're kinda catching some undeserved criticism here, I think. Good for you, you're workin hard, makin bank, and home every night to boot. Proud of you.
SellingOutOfMXCO@reddit
Damn dude. Thats pretty cool.
moe_pshhh@reddit
That's to many hours. Work to live don't live to work.
Eimar586@reddit
Or bust your ass for a few years. Invest the money so you dont need to work 30+ yrs
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Thank you for your input
doinmydeed@reddit
I make nearly the same with 100% no touch 🥱
roytwo@reddit
I did food service a couple of years, it was fine, BUT it is a young man's game
Seanw59@reddit
It pays to save up the money for the back surgery in the future.
spce-isthe-plce@reddit
How does the pay work tho? By volume?
clairered27@reddit
It depends it could be hourly or route/ component pay where you get cases miles etc wrapped up in the route pay
Jiangcool9@reddit
Dang I thought these were gross, it’s crazy
dbxbeat@reddit
I mean, if you don't have family, friends, or a life in general, AND you don't mind beating the shit out of your body, hell yeah man chase that bag.
I'd rather use that as experience on a resume to get a LTL job, take a slight pay cut, and coast into the twilight years.
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Im home at 530-6pm m-f like your average person. Just wake up early and get 4 hours on the clock before your average person is clocking in. Wife stays at home and takes care of all the day to day stuff. Works well for us, I genuinely like the work and the people I interact with, I see the wife and kids every evening and every weekend while affording a pretty comfortable lifestyle. Been doing it long enough where I can just drop pallets off at places for half my loads.
Gonzotrucker1@reddit
Better save up for that knee replacement.
Lentezdelvalley@reddit
Don’t forget the shoulder too
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Luckily the insurance is cheap and theres a company funded HSA so that's neat. If you survive it for 5 years or so you can pull doubles for them to get off your feet
yeroldpappy@reddit
You pay later.
Different-Grand-7473@reddit
Anyone over 55 do this type of job? I know it can’t be easy.
chico-dust@reddit
I saw this in my feed "food service pays" and I was like "yeah, but it beats your ass" and then I saw what you typed 😂
That's a young man's game. I can't hang with y'all
Thepopethroway@reddit
Judging by hours I'm guessing Sysco
ConsequenceSweaty241@reddit
Nice awesome if you like food delivery good job 👍👍👍😁
Worldly_Papaya_8930@reddit
It’s not like ur a millionaire with a non common name
Worldly_Papaya_8930@reddit
I wouldn’t even get taxes taken out just the bare minimum
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Just gonna flee the country or something?
Ton_in_the_Sun@reddit
Diabolical hours
McsDriven@reddit
Hahahaha I do not miss those hours. Glad to be home and topping out weeks with 47ish hours. Mon-fri
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
Neat
DANO8503@reddit
On a waiting list where I am. We have like four docks right here in town, merchant, Roma, Sysco, and us foods.
Roma might be a part of one of those I cant remember. I check every few months to see what’s up. I do something similar right now, food would be way easier. My product is fragile and heavy.
Dry_Extension4436@reddit
Roma is Performance Foods Group. It’s one of their brands of products.
DANO8503@reddit
Gotcha
Round_Rooms@reddit
Man if I just got 5 over ever 40 a week I would be be comfortable. Struggle is real.
Odd-Tailor-8579@reddit
Much respect for food service drivers. They deserve every penny even more than they make.
Bagzthehoney@reddit
Yea my pockets will enjoy it but my back an joints not so much
Pzab_@reddit
Im on my 7th yr of doing this im 41 and you aint lying my kneees and the bottom of my feet really get me some days
Bagzthehoney@reddit
The money is good but ya gotta make the change soon man before it’s too late
Fit_Hospital2423@reddit
I’m sure you work hard for your money. Good for you! I just hope you have a plan for where to go to when your body doesn’t wanna do that anymore.
LT-buttnaked@reddit
That’s a lot in taxes or medical coverage
throwsomefranksonit@reddit (OP)
100 weekly for the family, NY taxes, 10% in the 401k
JankyMark@reddit
