Massive bulk pre cooked eggs probaly steam cooked and shipping out packed in tightly frozen bulk shipments together, to save on labor costs and clean up time most likely
Fuzzball_Girl@reddit
I worked somewhere else that used these exact eggs and I can still feel how surprisingly the frozen pucks were and hear how they clinked against each other
zasinzoop@reddit
i worked at sheetz and they used these. i loved prepping a container they stack so nicely.
MakesMaDookieTwinkle@reddit
Your description sounds like you work at a metal sheet fabricating plant (I am not familiar with what “Sheetz” is).
zasinzoop@reddit
it's a gas station that serves fast food lol
Fuzzball_Girl@reddit
Wait, are you me?
zasinzoop@reddit
i think so bc i also enjoyed the clinking lol
seamus205@reddit
Same. I worked at a Dunkin donuts in highschool. This is exactly what the eggs looked like. They came in a plastic lined cardboard box and they were stacked up in there like CDs or something.
Silver-Season-599@reddit
at dunkin we cook eggs in the oven. this was straight up laziness on the employee because we have a knife and sharp spreaders, they definitely could’ve cut that up and i guarantee they didn’t care to correctly toast your bread so it’s nice and crusty like it should be. I just quite a dunkin because honestly they employee shit people at the ones near me and no one cares about what they do. It looks like you’ve encountered one of those places unfortunately :(. Put in a corporate complaint on the website! This gets the stores attention and gets them reprimanded so hopefully they’ll snap out of their crappy behavior :)
LurkerTroll@reddit
I think they use real eggs but they microwave it in a mold
Fuzzball_Girl@reddit
As someone who's worked in fast food, I know that egg. It is most certainly a pre-cooked, frozen puck that they just thaw and heat.
Machaeon@reddit
Yeah that looks about right for that
PipeComplex6976@reddit
Looks like an egg to me
levimic@reddit
Let me guess, $15?
Spacemanrich@reddit
That's like 1 tablespoon of avocado spread over that toast, too. The thing i hate the most about going out to eat now, is paying $20 and still having to go home and eat the food I bought at the grocery store to finish that meal

Most Duncans don’t fry their own donuts
sparklydildos@reddit
well then who does
k_hole_exe@reddit
Franchises operate a donut factory that delivers daily to Dunkin’.
JunkSack@reddit
Idk where you live but basically every donut shop that isn’t Duncan’s or Krispy Kreme does near me. We have a lot of independent shops, then the chain in Houston is Shipley. They also fry their own donuts at every location.
I was actually kind of shocked and very disappointed the first time I had Duncan’s. Everyone built them up but I could see they didn’t have the set up to actually make the donuts in house. They were incredibly stale. I have no idea where the hype comes from.
En1i1@reddit
Considering how the avocado toast itself looks. This is what I’d expect if I asked for an egg on it
patheticgirl420@reddit
No shade, but it's DD, did you expect them to fry one up for you?
SousVideDiaper@reddit
I wonder how many people realize this is basically what you get on any given fast food breakfast sandwich
Ringo308@reddit
Famously eggs are the only fresh thing McDonalds crack and cook themselves! At least for their McMuffins. They still use pre-cracked eggs for the scrambled eggs. Not trying to defend them, but I thought that's a fun fact.
BooRadley_ThereHeIs@reddit
You can ask for a fresh egg on any breakfast sandwich.
translinguistic@reddit
I've always wanted to try a round egg on a quarter pounder. I love a fried egg on a burger, but I'm not sure that would be very good haha
BurntRussian@reddit
They used to have a burger with an egg when they did the all day breakfast - it was like during the turnover to lunch.
Unless I have a totally fucked memory.
CoruptedUsername@reddit
It wasn’t an actual menu item, but it was a common enough thing that most employees would know what you meant when you ordered a “Mc 10:35”
BurntRussian@reddit
They had a weird fucking menu at one point. I think they even had a land and air sandwich, that might be the timeframe I'm thinking of.
I DID work at McDonald's at one point, and as much as I'd heard about it online, nobody ever ordered it.
CoruptedUsername@reddit
The land sea and air was also an unofficial menu item
BurntRussian@reddit
https://www.thestreet.com/investing/mcdonalds-add-some-secret-menu-items-to-its-actual-menu
This is what I was referencing. They did launch a menu hacks menu at one point (execution was very lame).
Didn't have the breakfast burger I was thinking of, though.
TuvixWillNotBeMissed@reddit
I like a round egg on a mcdouble because they're the same size as those beef patties. I've also added one of those to a bacon and egg mcmuffin and it slaps.
Flimsy6769@reddit
You added another egg to a McMuffin? I’m confused
NetworkingJesus@reddit
They probably mean swapping the crappy folded egg for the round egg on a different breakfast sandwich that they mistakenly called a McMuffin. Like the bacon egg n cheese biscuit or bagel. That's what I used to do.
translinguistic@reddit
Is it even possible to order that anymore though?
TuvixWillNotBeMissed@reddit
If the menu items are available at the same time, yes. I don't remember if it's an option in the POS but asking nicely tends to work.
Selcouth22@reddit
Yea, it would have to be an all day breakfast location for this to work. Otherwise they have already cleaned, shit down, and put away the breakfast stuff.
hatsnatcher23@reddit
Could you order it? Maybe, should you?
translinguistic@reddit
tehspiah@reddit
Half the burgers in Japan McDonald's have an egg in it, it's pretty good, but sometimes makes you too full
jamesc1308@reddit
Just go to one around the time they switch to breakfast. I think around 10:30. But you should be there right before 10:30 when they start swapping to the lunch menu. Also ask nicely. That works wonders.
fddfgs@reddit
If you get one on a McOz (along with bacon) then you get an actual aussie burger
ronimal@reddit
Not possible. You can’t get breakfast items after 10:30am (or whatever the cutoff is) and you can’t get burgers during breakfast hours.
You’ll have to bring your own egg.
almighty_ruler@reddit
A 1/4#er might need 2 eggs
kjk2202@reddit
DD only has these round eggs, no other kind
danecookofmods@reddit
They've started upcharging for that. That or my McDonald's doesn't want to do it for me anymore.
BooRadley_ThereHeIs@reddit
Oh interesting. What do they say the upcharge is for the substitution?
danecookofmods@reddit
It's like $2. And the app doesnt let you seap egg either without an even bigger upcharge. And considering I only buy their breakfast sandwiches with the now $1.50 (use to be $1) app coupon, it cost more than the sandwiche.
isthisyournacho@reddit
The “scrambled eggs” are actually liquid egg product that comes in a milk container, and the cooking process moves it around so it looks a little like scrambled eggs. I’m not sure what it is exactly. Maybe 100% egg, dunno
walroast@reddit
last time I got an egg at McDonald's it was so overcooked the yolk had transformed to pure sulfur and the white was rubber flavored. I spit it out and a dog ran over to try and take it and couldn't even eat it.
SpiceTrader56@reddit
Can confirm. My local McD's even tosses in the shells for an added crunchy surprise!
Without-Reward@reddit
I don't know if A&W is strictly Canadian or not, or if they have different menus elsewhere but they actually still serve a real breakfast. Cracked eggs, toast and bacon.
radda@reddit
We have A&W down here but they're different and not as good.
The one near me doesn't open until 10 and doesn't have breakfast at all. It's also a Long John Silver's.
When I was a kid it was just A&W and they actually mixed the root beer in house. I doubt they do that anymore.
MalnourishedHoboCock@reddit
The McDonalds I worked at had two types of egg: pre-whisked egg in a carton and prepackaged round egg.
corndog161@reddit
And they use real butter. For how shit the rest of their food has become the McMuffin has stood strong. I feel like there must be someone high up in the org chart that really loves them.
blueberrywalrus@reddit
They're loving the profit margin.
The breakfast menu uses smaller in portions and cheaper ingredients (eg. Pork vs Beef) than their main menu. Yet an Egg McMuffin costs just $0.20 less than a Big Mac.
There's no reason for them to risk their golden muffin goose by looking for a few percentage points more of margin. It's the same reason their fries, nuggets, and soda is so consistent.
love-from-london@reddit
The biscuits get brushed with real butter too, or at least they did when I worked there in college like 15 years ago.
johnaross1990@reddit
Bullshit, the sausage is raw before it’s cooked in house, as are the hashbrowns
Plane-Tie6392@reddit

heart_under_blade@reddit

folded egg is the one that is not. as opposed to scrambled, and round eggs
at-woork@reddit
Scrambled comes from a carton of liquid eggs. Round egg comes from an egg cracked at the store. Folded egg comes pre-made from a factory.

ea88_alwaysdiscin@reddit
I rarely ever eat McDonald's anymore, and if I do it's only ever for breakfast....but if you ask for the round egg on any of the breakfast sandwiches, you get a real freshly cracked egg
Wide_Yak_592@reddit
I was surprised when I worked there how it's A. Kept cleaner than a lot of places I've worked, and B. They do a couple of things fresh. C. Worst social environment I ever worked in, team morale who?
Joseph419270577@reddit
C. proved you knew what you were talking about. I worked there for what was supposed to be a stop gap measure but ended up being 3 years, full time on third shift at a 24 hour drive-thru and delivery location. The GM liked my work ethic (I showed up on time for every scheduled shift which made me basically a unicorn) so I was given carte blanche on overtime.
But even $22.50 (OT rate) an hour could only keep me motivated for so long… I was wiping more ass than a goddamn daycare.
thejabel@reddit
Tbf that makes you a unicorn in basically every low wage customer service job that there is. As a pharmacist I have had techs in the past that would just no call no show every week and even my best techs, at times it has been like pulling teeth to just get them there on time and not 15-20 minutes late.
themellowsign@reddit
I feel like that's more than fair for low wage jobs, why are we expecting people to put in effort for a barely livable wage?
Joseph419270577@reddit
Also, correct on the cleanliness of the work environment. I was never in management, but it was pretty clear anyone who went down that route had health inspection (public & corporate) standards drilled into their heads. They don’t play.

This feels like astroturfing. Wendy's breakfast is the worst going. They haven't figured out you can't microwave bread.
impstein@reddit

ea88_alwaysdiscin@reddit
I'm sorry....but those potato wedges are the only thing they really have going for them on the breakfast menu, everything else just seems like an afterthought and doesn't compare to other places. Their honey butter chicken whatever is such a sad excuse for that category of breakfast sandwich.

Not only that but they use sobra guacamole to make their avocado toast. U can legit buy a pack for bread and thing of guac for same price u paying for this
peach_xanax@reddit
you don't even have to do that, they have little avocado toast kits at a lot of places (grocery stores, and they have them at Wawa near me) that come with the Sabra guacamole and toast
impstein@reddit
Not a regular dunkins customer, and there's at least 6 in my immediate area, but I've gone to the same one a few times and ordered the sourdough bacon breakfast sandwich... The sourdough was buttered and toasted with just enough char, the bacon was crispy but not overdone, and I don't remember the egg being anything special but it wasn't one of those sponge things at least

McDonald's is one of the few fast food places that uses real non-processed egg (the round egg, not the square one). Other places blend egg with other ingredients and that's why some taste like egg foam.
Kagura0609@reddit
Excuse me, did you say square egg? As in hard boiled egg or are we talking about omelette here?
TheDevilishFrenchfry@reddit
As in their folded egg product. It's eggs that are cooked on a giant flat top steamer usually and packed and folded for shipping convenience and easier cutting and processing. They use a egg steamer/fryer machine for their single serve sandwiches though, if you see a yolk on the egg from mcdonalds it was cooked fresh
ChoochieReturns@reddit
When I worked there in 2014-15 we used liquid egg in a rectangular silicone mold and steamed it on the flattop. Then you would just fold it over twice. It wasn't preformed at all. The egg on the McMuffin was cracked fresh into a round mold and done the same way.
TheDevilishFrenchfry@reddit
I worker there a few years after and we did use liquid egg solution for a bit but I think they started ordering pre cooked bulk sheets soon after for the egg sheets
Kagura0609@reddit
What the heck, I didn't know it was possible to do this much processing with a freaking egg. Thank you so much for explaining, learned something new today

dallen@reddit
When I worked at Sonic we didn't even use the mix. We just got frozen square sheets of egg and warmed them up for the breakfast sandwiches.
marihikari@reddit
does Burger King use real egg too?
Machaeon@reddit
Yep. Hardees/Carl Jr uses an egg mix.
There have been times where that wasn't available, supply chain or something, and their standardized method of replicating that mix is basically just taking eggs, blending them, and watering down the result a certain percentage to get the "right" consistency.
No other preservatives or additives, but it's watered down egg at best.
