What is the best (most garliciest) shop bought garlic sauce/mayo in the Uk?

Just make your own toum (Lebanese garlic sauce) it’s super simple but can take some time to “age” in order to get the garlicky taste to become milder. I’ve eaten it fresh and it’s like teargas

I was looking to see if anyone else mentioned toum before I made a comment about toum - I bet they're talking about toum. I've now done that thing where I've "said" toum too many times and it sounds weird.

Yes - the traditional way is a bit of a pain, but super easy with a blender. It's basically an aioli so garlic, oil, lemon juice, and salt.

I love the recipe with the cornstarch in it, it decreases the amount of oil I need to use, i'm so obsessed with it if I use all oil it will contribute to my weight way more than I'd like lol

Aldi do a very very very decent garlic dip. My routine when getting pizza is to go Aldi first get my dip and then collect my Pizza. If you explore this please let me know your experience with the sauce tub.

Mix full fat greek yoghurt with some mayonnaise, maybe a little water if you want it thinner. Add finely sliced garlic, a dash of olive oil, salt and pepper and chopped parsley or chives. Better than anything store bought.

Lidl does a dominos imitation garlic dip that is basically the same thing. They also have aioli and roasted garlic mayo which imo are unbeatable by any other supermarket

The Isle of Wight Garlic Farm do an incredible garlic mayo that lasts a really long time if stored properly. It’s not in supermarkets, but if you’re in the south it’s regularly in small indie shops & they do a lot of markets too. We've started making our own, freshly crushed garlic, mayonnaise and a splash of white wine vinegar, mix it all up, taste it and add more of whatever you need to strengthen/weaken it. Add chives, freshly ground pepper and swap the white wine vinegar for cider vinegar and you get something closer to a ranch dressing (thanks Gousto!).

Pizza Express do a garlic and herb dipping sauce (I buy in either Tesco or Sainsburys, on the shelf where ketchup etc is). Not hugely strong as you have requested but I find this superior and better tasting than the garlic mayos that you can buy

Chemist here. The magical garlicky taste comes from allyl thiol. It's volatile and prone to oxidation, so only a fresh garlic sauce will pack a proper punch.

If you happen to be from the North East, think the garlic you get with a Parmo. Peel a few Garlic cloves and stick them in a food processor. Add some mayo and blitz. A little squirt of Salad cream to a touch of vinegar* (or put a bit in but don't go too far), then add some water until it is the right consistency. Honestly if you haven't tried it and love a garlic dip, this is the best thing you can do. It doesn't last long, due to the mayo content but that was never an issue on Teesside. *Lemon juice will work too, you just need the the extra touch of acidity.

It may be an Lebanese sauce called Toum. There quite a few regional variants, but the easiest is just garlic gloves, salt, lemon juice and olive oil (veg oil works too0 whizzed up in a blender. Takes bugger all time. I've also done it with a immersion blender in a tall jug. This guys does a good vid taking you through the process. Booker's brand is Chef's Larder, which is available on Amazon. I've seen that behind many a counter over the years! It's very garlicky, but also a bit meh - to me at least.

If it's an independent they probably make their own. The closest I've come to that at home (and it was damn close to a takeaway made version) was: - About half and half mayo and plain yoghurt. - a clove of fresh garlic, minced or crushed, you don't want any bits. - splash of lemon juice. - Salt - I think I used dried 'mixed herbs' rather than any particular ones. Mix it up and taste and adjust. Sorry, no proper measurements there, I kinda usually eyeball and adjust things and never remember full quantities 😂

I live with a chef, he made the most amazing garlic sauce when I first started my quest, only without the preservatives etc. It just doesn't keep, ended up throwing a third of the first litre batch despite my nightly attempts to plough through it
