Sun: Service Urgently Needed.

I guess it's a Happy Meal card in slot 2 and the SunPCi in slot 3. What's in slot 1?
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
Slot 1 is the USB/Firewire card. Under that is just serial/parallel, that does not have a PCI slot for it.
rayui@reddit
I did not know there were USB SBUS cards! Amazing!
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
Ultra5 has PCI slots. It is a SUN branded USB/Firewire card.

Sorry, I'm tired 😕 thought this was a Sparc
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
It is a Sparc.
rayui@reddit
Ah boy. I really need to stay offline when I'm tired
tes_kitty@reddit
It's a 100 MBit Ethernet card with an hme interface. But not the kind that also includes a SCSI port, the port in the picture is connector for an external tranceiver (fiber for example).
kriebz@reddit
Possibly the 2nd IO bracket for the PCI.

I learned how to program Lisp on one of those badboys at the university many moons ago!
Awkward-Act3164@reddit
man, I am on the hunt for one of these! Nothing local for me yet. Might have to eBay it (argh $$)

Does your SunPCI Card work? Are you running Solaris 10 with it?
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
Yes it does work. The HDD died a little bit ago and I have not reloaded it.

So a long while back, I actually had a blog about Solaris (solaris.andarazoroflove.org) and I adventured through getting a Chimera (600MHz SunPCI, just like this one, but it was in an Ultra 10) working under Solaris 10, and then I'd forgotten all about it over the years. Recently I too aquired an Ultra 5 and bought another SunPCI to try it in, started googling about using it and came across this thread in the Oracle forms:
https://forums.oracle.com/ords/apexds/post/solaris-10-on-ultra-10-w-sunpci-i-0996
Half way down, someone posted my blog's directions and even gave me credit! Hahaha how that jogged the memory.
Alas, this depends on a Solaris 10 patch 113616-06 which I for the life of me can't seem to locate on the Internet anymore :( I dug and dug, if anyone sees this and has any Sun Archives with that patch for Solaris 10, I would laud you forever, I don't want to run Solaris 9 on my Ultra 5!

Did I understood correctly that the USB3SUN allows you to bypass the bad NVRAM issues? See here: https://hackaday.com/2024/03/01/an-open-sparcstation-usb-keyboardmouse-adapter/
"for instance, one of the firmware updates has added idprom reprogramming features, which, as [delan] tells us, lets you boot your workstation with a dead NVRAM battery."
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
I know it does. I replaced the battery of the NVRAM before that firmware update was released.

USB and FireWire!
tes_kitty@reddit
You might want to take a look inside. Those also had bulging capacitor problems.
SnooCheesecakes399@reddit (OP)
I have. Caps are good. I did have to install a battery on the NVRAM.

These were so cool back when they came out!
