I’ll cut the old line, put the new line end to end with it and wrap them together with one layer of some good duct tape. Pull the old line out and the new one comes through. Works like 80% of the time.
Had to do this when I upgraded to dual piston hydraulics; such a tedius pain in the ass, snaking that thing through the frame. And those hydraulic cables do not flex in a helpful way.
External routing was the normal way on older bikes, but the mounts were often brazed or welded on. Biggest risk here is that your plastic cable guides or the adhesive that sticks them on will degrade over time and they’ll eventually crack or fall off.
You might consider using zip ties when these eventually fail. Or, visit your local bike shop and ask them to help you route the cable: they’ll have magnet tools and guide lines that make this easy!
I think they mean the wire getting snagged and coming off completely. I see how that could happen honestly, i probably wouldve used electrical tape and wrapped the wire to the whole frame body but that mightve looked too DIY for your taste
Looks like a nice solid decent frame. No idea why you would put effort into sticking them cable blocks on there when you could just put a little more effort into doing it properly. Some people dont give a shit I guess but dam that looks nasty.
OnMyOwn_HereWeGo@reddit
Proper planning could have had you using the old line to pull the new one through.
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
Don’t worry i kept the old line still in, if i ever decide to be less lazy and properly route it thru
_plays_in_traffic_@reddit
this is actually the stupidest thing ive read on reddit.
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
trust me i’ve seen worse
ballsagna2time@reddit
Same. You're routing is incredible. Don't let the Electric Jerry's tell you otherwise.
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
thanks!

lol, trash. This sub is so bad.
FroggingMadness@reddit
Can't blame them, internal routing is a pain in the ass.
dominiquebache@reddit
Making a statement.
I like!
Substantial_Oil678@reddit
Secure ‘em with some self tappers, done.
OldMany8032@reddit
Use the old line to pull the new one in.
ava1ar@reddit
Ugly!
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
the uglier the less likely it’ll be stolen (i keep telling myself)
shaakunthala@reddit
Nope.
Thieves see the opportunity. Looks are irrelevant.
Wrap a chain lock around the frame and secure it to a stationary object if you want to lower the chances of it getting stolen.
ConstantlyEdging420@reddit
Yeah, they don’t care what it looks like, they’re not gonna use it personally, it’s just $$$ to them
Reinis_LV@reddit
This begs the question - how terrible is the internal routing in that frame if they ended up doing this whole monstrosity
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
The brakes came prebled I just didn’t want to yank one of the ends off and hand to reblead it
Ancient-Chinglish@reddit
If it works, it works. If it’s ugly, thieves are less likely to steal it.
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
Damn straight
Ok_Credit2691@reddit
Bruh.
Slayerlax@reddit
They make cheap cable routing kits on Amazon
macab1988@reddit
Nah man, that looks pretty ugly and one day you will accidently ripping it off.
WillingShilling_20@reddit
Lmao, how?
SunshineInDetroit@reddit
adhesive eventually failing. unless those mounts are epoxied there i don't expect the adhesive to last especially when exposed to the elements
WillingShilling_20@reddit
Ohhh I didn’t realize it was adhesive . Yeah that makes sense
SunshineInDetroit@reddit
Another thing I remember is that the plastic grommets usually get super brittle from the elements so .. they'll crack and fail
Sk1rm1sh@reddit
ikr, it's not like it's going to be regularly vibrated or have something moving past it about 60 times a minute.
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
ripping what off, because the pieces are pretty damn (unfortunately and i guess fortunately) on there
Sk1rm1sh@reddit
Well, as long as the pieces don't come off I guess.

itsapotatosalad@reddit
There’s a reason it was routed through the frame I guess
Throw_shapes@reddit
You are a man of focus, committment and sheer will
Comfortable-Future72@reddit
some black zipties would be nicer looking
ZenithZebra@reddit (OP)
zipties wouldn’t work because i would have to wrap it around the detachable battery
WaveIcy294@reddit
I mean you have two tubes there. Doesn't have to be the bottom one.
BodSmith54321@reddit
As long as you are happy but maybe get black so they don’t stand out as much.
Watts300@reddit
Why did you need a new one?
Superb_Raccoon@reddit
I await the follow up post where you tell us to not do this, it caused a crash.
makes some popcorn
Bikermec@reddit
Route it in between your two tubes and zip tie it to top one.
WillingShilling_20@reddit
Bunch of babies tryna slander your work. I think it looks fine.
It’s a bike, it’s supposed to get you around. Your solution is utilitarian
ThatGothGuyUK@reddit
You could have just attached a metal bolt on the end with some gaffer tape and then pulled it through with a magnet.
