How to fix my passport application mistake ?

I'm hoping someone can help or offer some (useful) advice. So I recently applied for my first passport. After about a week the passport office emailed asking for a copy of my Mum's birth certificate. I paid the fee to get it fast tracked and sent it off on Saturday. Today the passport office emailed and said there is a mistake ! My Mum has been using her partners name for 30 years. That is the name I put on my original application. Turns out my Mum didn't do anything 'official' to change her name but the passport office now want evidence that she did .

Does your mother use that name on other official documents, like her driving licence, bank account, or tax records? Evidence of usage could help. Otherwise it’s just a genuine mistake on your part and the caseworker may just accept that.

Bro I have done my appointment at PSK but after coming home I realised that by mistake and my own fault I wrongly entered my place of birth in the application now what should I do I need my passport asap. Plz help 🙏🙏

Yes she does. As far as I know she uses that name for everything. And has done since she got divorced from my Dad.

Ask her for certified copies unless they’ve asked for originals. Photocopy them and have someone you know well write “I certify that this is a true copy of an original document seen by me” with their name and date. If they’ve asked for originals, that’s what you’ll have to send.

Just curious did you get it sorted ive just done the same thing myself , ive rang them up and a note has been added to the system but im worried that im gonna have to reapply.

Yes I did. They emailed asking for further proof of her details. I can't remember exactly what but basically I ordered a copy of my parents marriage certificate and sent a signed note from her explaining that she had never legally changed her name to the one I originally gave and that I had made a genuine mistake. Passport arrived a week later . I didn't need to reapply or pay any further fee .

Did she get married to the partner and start using the name from that point? If so there isn’t anything you do to start using the partners name, there is no official process. Most people change their government issued ID to reflect their name preference but a marriage certificate allows the use of either surname of the people listed or a hyphenated/double-barrel version of the names of the people listed. I’m unsure of what happens if they didn’t get married but as a deed poll can be written by oneself then I can’t see it being much different

No, she didn't marry her partner. She was married to my Dad , and started using the new partners name when she and my Dad got divorced.

If your mum didn’t legally change it and her original name is on her official documents you can probably just send them a letter asking them to correct it on your application. I just did something similar. Generally they are happy to amend mistakes, but otherwise will need proof of the new name.
