Super excited for the new gen6 platform with the increased range and new batteries.
The new front grille and wide rear haunches gives this, I think, one of the most cohesive and visually appealing BMWs in modern times.
Bonerchill@reddit
Holy hell. It looks enormous.

Double_Cleff@reddit
People like it now. Waiting for it to release and everyone to hate it to continue the cycle
samurai1226@reddit
Can't wait for everyone stating the beavertooth was the last good BMW design... I like it in the GT3 racecar but still don't like how it looks on regular models
rhinoscopy_killer@reddit
I don't think that will happen, personally. The Beaver Motor Works design language has been vocally hated more than any other generation of cars I can think of in the past few decades, and rightly so in my opinion.
Even well respected publications generally go out of their way to comment on the ugliness across the board of products.
dedboooo0@reddit
cant be worse than whatever the fuck they have now
jse000@reddit
BMW designing an attractive vehicle, Dodge selling a Charger EV, and Hondas are all turbocharged. The end is nigh.
samcar330@reddit
Ackxshaully honda made a new v6 not long ago
jse000@reddit
No VTEC, doesn't count
Ghost1k25@reddit
More like “trying to sell”
Mediocre-Relative-72@reddit
Oof
jse000@reddit
That's a fair correction
FlorydaMan@reddit
Can't be worse than their current design identity... right?
Ran4@reddit
M4 looks good though.
FlorydaMan@reddit
We got used to it, but the snout is horrible
Ran4@reddit
No, it's not? Look at it: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZZuUM0kMsuw/maxresdefault.jpg

probablyhrenrai@reddit
It's striking, but not in a way I personally enjoy. I think it's that the top of the grille is significantly higher than the line made by the top "edge" of the headlights; to me, that's a pickup-truck-only thing in my mind (and semi trucks, I suppose), and it looks out of place on a sports car.
I know it looks good to you and many others, but it's just not my cuppa tea.
madwolfa@reddit
Maybe striking, but not good still.
FlorydaMan@reddit
See them daily, still my opinion.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
I think they pushed the Neue Klasse up a couple years due to the criticism...
The highly criticized X3 Face-lift is brand new for the 2025 model year, and we will be getting a brand new version of the Neue Klass X3, and 3 Series later this year/early next year...
Marco_lini@reddit
It‘s the EV iX3 which will come in the Neue Klasse Design at first. The X3 will likely retain it‘s design untils its facelift in 2028. The X5 will get the new design after the i3.
Unoriginal-@reddit
Even the new G60 5 series is slated for a Neue Klasse with its LCI, this generation won’t old well
VitoXzX@reddit
I really hope this question age properly
Lyxess@reddit
Gives me really classic bmw vibes, let’s wait and see the nose and rear though.
GravyNeck@reddit
Really hope this isn't what the production car will look like. It doesn't look like a BMW, it doesn't look like an M3. It just looks like a lumpy, bloated Alfa Romeo
guy_incognito784@reddit
The Neue Klasse grills remind me of a modern take on the BMW 2002 grill.
I dig it.
Vast-Girth117@reddit
Every new design won’t look like bmw because it’s a new design BMW haven’t done before
Users5252@reddit
The lines look pretty bmw to me
Marco_lini@reddit
It‘ll look very close to the two concept cars and they are well identifiable as BMWs. The retro elements of the original Neue Klasse from the 1970s are typical BMW
Big_Flan_4492@reddit
Shame they couldn't do this with the G80
Ran4@reddit
Looks interesting, but the pricing is already absurd. New M3 starts from 120k euro, this will be as expensive as a 911.
macgirthy@reddit
Reminds me more of a Dodge and Alfa Giulia had a baby
MembershipNo2077@reddit
Kind of looks like my Blackwing but a bit less "sleek" and yea like a little dodge in it.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
Honestly, dont think thats necessarily a bad thing, Dodge has made some stunning cars, and the Giulia is just absolutely gorgeous...
Significant_Tax_3427@reddit
This is genuinely nice. Good proportions and looks properly menacing. Jury’s still out until I see it decamoed but I think this might be a win.
rugbyj@reddit
Yeah I like it. People are saying it doesn't look "BMW" but:
Looking forward to seeing what this actually ends up as. The big thing for me is the visibility looks great, low shoulder line, open looking pillars. Gives a bit of a retro vibe.
Captain_Alaska@reddit
It's not even complaining about the current design language it's just people complaining for the sake of complaining lol.
Like the other day someone was complaining about how the hoodline on the G60 5er is higher than the beltline. Not only is the G30 exactly like this but so is every other 5 Series since the E39 launched in 1995.
Or how the G chassis 4 Series looks like a Mustang from the side because it doesn't have a very defined Hofmeister kink, a statement which makes no sense considering the S550 Mustang does have a defined Hofmeister kink.
cheezturds@reddit
The lack of Hofmeister kink really bothers me. That’s been a staple for longer than I’ve been alive. And I mean I could go on about this. Wtf are we doing here?
KingstonEagle@reddit
A part of me really hopes BMW makes this gen of 3 series with a non EV option, I think it’s gorgeous but my area doesn’t really have a lot of electric infrastructure
BringBackDanFouts@reddit
I don't hate it but it just looks like a fat M2.
KellerMB@reddit
Side profile reminds me of the old IS300. Looks better than most modern bimmers.
---4758---@reddit (OP)
I think I know why I like it so much: the c pillar is very far back and meshes into the rear ¾ of the car smoothly. Couple that with the long nose and it actually looks fantastic!
cookingboy@reddit
Yep. As a happy owner of an i4 M50, I'm totally buying/leasing one of these when it comes out.
xlb250@reddit
What do you mean by long nose? The A pillar base isn’t any further back than a Model 3.
generalright@reddit
It looks good, harkens back to the old style front ends. I see potential.
Lego_Hippo@reddit
I wonder what it'll do to current gen used pricing. Will the market just look back on it like "oh ya, that's when BMW tried something different than went back to conventional styling"
Terryknowsbest@reddit
Yes, the C pillar placement and angle is reminiscent of E30's and E28's in a good way.
Multifaceted-Simp@reddit
I don't like the way this looks but I'll hold off until I see it
SaintTastyTaint@reddit
Why does the front remind me of Dodge had a baby with Mercedes?
As a lifelong BMW fan; I'm tired boss.
cilantno@reddit
I don’t see that at all.

cilantno@reddit
Your brain is filling in the gaps caused by the camo in a …special way
dcux@reddit
I got a Mitsubishi feeling from that front end.
bauhausy@reddit
Front-end reminds me of a modernized 8th gen Mitsubishi Galant, which is not at all a bad thing because that was a very handsome sedan.
MaroonIsBestColor@reddit
The 8th Gens kinda copied BMW looks from back then to be fair.
SojusCalling@reddit
Opel Astra for me
EnormousGucci@reddit
It reminds me of a dodge charger, the one that just went away not the new EV
cheesecaker000@reddit
Yeah this looks like a Chevy Camaro to me. Not a fan of the front at all.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I love it. Lots of things to hate about dodge but I don't feel the grills are one of them. I think the charger (new and old srt & up) as well as the challenger looked fantastic. same thing with mercedes, lots to dislike but I think the SL & GT look great from the front
pimfram@reddit
I'm surprised it took them this long to electrify a real M car.
Kindly-Emergency-514@reddit
Proportions of a 2020 Toyota Corolla. Yuck.
I know it's probably going to be a pretty good car, but I just can't with the styling.
Users5252@reddit
What's wrong with a sedan having a traditional sedan proportiob?
Terryknowsbest@reddit
I just googled - a 2020 Corolla at the same angle doesn't have nearly as long a hood, and basically no trunk, I'm not seeing the analogy.
strongmanass@reddit
The analogy is "__ premium car being discussed looks like [economy brand I want to use to insult it]." Actual similarity of any kind is not required.
Terryknowsbest@reddit
It was oddly specific to a Toyota Corolla from 2020, but okay
thisisjustascreename@reddit
Looks like a Civic
natesully33@reddit
I like the down sloping hood - with no need to accommodate an engine, why have a high hood killing your visibility?
I feel like the next set of BMW BEVs are gonna be really good cars, though I suspect the price might be... not low. I test drove an i4 a while back and liked it, though my location and hobbies just aren't well suited for a sedan right now.
xlb250@reddit
What do you mean by “down sloping hood”? If anything, the hood chunkier and more block shaped than the ICE.
EV
ICE
natesully33@reddit
Hmm, the front angle exaggerated it a little to my mind and I didn't do a side-by-side comparison. Maybe it is about the same.
snsvsv@reddit
On the bright side if this has EV-esque depreciation I may finally be able to afford one!
Mellow_2JZ@reddit
Call me insane but the silhouette looks like an IS300 in a way.
triplevanos@reddit
Shape looks great. I pray there’s a hofmeister kink under that cladding in the c pillar area
LuckyCheetos@reddit
it looks like an e92 and fl5 type r had a baby
Trades46@reddit
I actually dig it. I've long liked the M3 but if I were to step into BMW I might just go for the i4 M50 instead.
If they make an M3 EV, that would be the best of both worlds.
Enough-Scientist1904@reddit
Cant wait for BMW to ruin it by adding that huge ratchet ass grill
chaiteataichi_@reddit
Reminds me of an Alfa Romeo SZ
s3cf_@reddit
is it longer than the current 3 series?
magnament@reddit
Looks like a Camry fucked a Giulia
WillSuckDick4Coffee@reddit
If I had money and was forced to buy an EV, I'd go BMW without question. They look like a normal car, not some sorta wanna be futuristic appliance. I've also not heard or seen anything bad about how they drive or how the anything bad about the battery.
OK I take that back, I'd love a Taycan or E-. Tron, but those are a level above an BMW I4
MortimerDongle@reddit
They're very much "just" an electric BMW, but that's a good thing. No drama, not weird, the EV tech isn't industry leading but it's good enough to not bother the average person (unlike Mercedes).
Gatortribe@reddit
295 rears, my wallet is fearful for sure. I'm hoping these lease well, because I'm very interested in what they do here.
Pro-editor-1105@reddit
"M3 EV" lmao
strongmanass@reddit
Yes, an EV developed by the M division for performance, based on the upcoming electric 3 series.
throwthisaccawaay@reddit
Nobody's holding a gun at you bro, stop it.
---4758---@reddit (OP)
I'm not just a pessimistic BMW fan. This is genuinely the first car in a long time I straight up liked out of the gate unlike the previous generation.
throwthisaccawaay@reddit
There's nothing to like in this gen visually. I really can't agree with some of y'all. It actually makes the g80 look like the mona lisa.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
nobody’s holding a gun at you bro
throwthisaccawaay@reddit
Why would someone need to be held at gunpoint to say something against the popular opinion? Bruh.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
neue klasse being worse than the current g80 design language is very much an unpopular opinion around here
throwthisaccawaay@reddit
...exactly?
Me saying g80 > neue klasse design = unpopular, hence why i said i was going "against the popular opinion".
Bruh.
---4758---@reddit (OP)
Against the popular opinion? This sub and the wider car enthusiast community had dogged on both EVs and BMWs design language for the past half-decade, if not longer.
throwthisaccawaay@reddit
"Against the popular opinion":
Neue klasse > g80 = popular opinion/at least for you.
And i'm going against it.
Voila??
StatusCount7032@reddit
Better. Much better.
Sierra_463@reddit
this design was never gonna work with production proportions was it
Terryknowsbest@reddit
I'm hopeful about everything except the back end - looks like it has that plastic gaudy M5 rear double smear.
Salmon_pervert@reddit
I really wonder how it will be on m-coupes, are they gonna be square like current m2? I guess we'll need to wait a year or two, to find out
DirtBudget6044@reddit
Guess it's time to start saving then! 😅🚗
thelastlugnut@reddit
…or the new Kia Optima.
