A day in MK

My partner and I are going to be in MK later this month and have a free day - we’re debating whether or not to spend the day in MK or make the trek into London for the day
Any recommendations for things to do in MK to avoid the trip into London? Both late 20’s, not big drinkers

girl go London, mk is ded

There’s live music at the Craufurd arm’s or MK11.
Some nice coffee and cake places around Campbell wharf
Nice parks and lakes to walk around, blue lagoon or Campbell park are lovely.
There’s lots of arcades and mini golf or bowling for games and stuff like; lane 7, xscape
Bletchley park has a good bit of history, or the sci fi museum or Mk museum.
What do you like?

I think we’re going to be taking a trip to Bletchley Park! Seems to come highly recommended
We’re coming from Dublin and actually have two Lane 7’s here so will probably be passing on things we can generally do at home - but will definitely pop to Campbell Wharf for some coffee and a treat!
Thank you :)

There's a new small lego museum now

I like the parks and forests. Which there are many. Canals also. Depends what you like

The SciFi museum is excellent.

If you tell me your hobbies and interests I am sure I can give you better recommendations

If you haven't been before Bletchley Park is a decent day out if you have any interest in WWII or computers. I've lived here 10 years and it took family visiting to finally go and kicked myself for not going sooner.

I think i will end up going there on my own

This seems to be coming up a lot!! I’m quite into history myself, and my partner is into computers so it seems like the perfect combo of both our interests

Do the guided tour. It's super interesting
TaiserRY@reddit
Make sure to visit the museum of computing next to it! It’s the actual one that holds colossus the original code breaker. Bletchley Park has been known to sneakily redirect people heading to that to their blocks instead sadly and TNMOC has a lot of cool things

A great place to visit. I still don't know how those Enigma machines worked😂

Bletchley park and the national computer museum are both good.
There is also a lego museum that has recently opened (don't know of its any good though). https://brickzmuseum.com/
Milton Keynes museum is fantastic and doesn't get enough love. https://miltonkeynesmuseum.org.uk/
You can visit some of the parks trust open spaces including where they have replicas of the concrete cows (originals +concrete snowman are at the MK museum) Campbell Park is nice to walk around and had a great view from the lookout at the top, and nearly all of the lakes have a nice walk around them you can do. If you choose to walk around Willen lake you can also see the peace pagoda and a turf maze https://www.theparkstrust.com/our-work/public-art/labyrinth/

There is lots of public art, particularly in the city center. One of my favorites is "Sitting on history" which is in the new bit of the shopping center (proper name is Midsummer place, but all locals call it the new bit,) and if you have kids (or are young at heart) you will enjoy the frog click with it's magic balls and bubbles.
Another notable place is the Xscape, with an indoor skislope (real snow and free viewing from the cafe at the bottom), and indoor skydiving.
For more ideas there is also the destination MK website https://www.destinationmiltonkeynes.co.uk/things-to-do/

I'm from London & have been to MK last year in October, its a very interesting place.
It has a good shopping centre, good food outlets & lots of green spaces & some nice parks
Jollychapperchance@reddit
If you park outside the odeon and validate your parking seeing a film you get an insane amount of hours! Might be a good place to start 👍

Go to London, Bletchley park is only worth visiting if you have an interest in WW2 and even then it’s not nearly as interesting as the imperial war museum. Milton Keynes isn’t a great day out when London is on the table.

We were trying to see if there was anything to do in MK as we were only in London together back in November for the guts of a week, and crossed most of our wants off and I’ll be back myself in October!
Luckily, I do have an interest in WWII and Bletchley Park seems to have come highly recommended, so I think we’ll be avoiding the city with the suggestions I’ve gotten on this post :)

It depends on what type of activities you're into.
If you are an active person (with a bit of money to spare) then you could go to the indoor snow slope, or do some indoor skydiving. Or you could go to somewhere like willen lake and enjoy some of the water sports activities, inflatable aqua park, paddleboarding, kayaking, etc. They also have things like axe throwing, archery, and tree top high ropes at willen lake.
If you enjoy a quiet walk then there is loads of green space and walking/cycle routes around.
As someone else has already said, Bletchley park is pretty interesting and worth a visit, along with the national museum of computing.
We have all the usual family activities like bowling, escape rooms, crazy golf, arcade halls, cinemas, etc - but these are probably nothing special compared to any town or city.
Depending on dates, there might be some ice hockey or other events on at planet ice, or shows on at the theatre, or music gigs at the stables, mk11, Crawford arms or the bowl.
itschloebee@reddit (OP)
We’re actually going to be in MK for a gig at the bowl so that’s one ticked off our list right away!!
We’re coming from Dublin so a lot of the things we’re seeing online is the same kind of stuff we can do at home. Bletchley Park seems to be coming up a lot both here and online and I’m quite into history so I think that might be how we fill our spare day!
Thank you for your suggestions :)

There’s an Andy Warhol exhibition at MK Gallery if you’re into art.

Go to Central MK and take an Avanti to Euston. In 30mins, you'll be in London :)
