How good is the RTX 3060 still?

I have been trying to choose a good GPU to use for a PC I am planning to build but struggling to find a good one that won’t kill me with its price and saw I could get two RTX3060s with good VRAM for a good price. I know the 3060 is a couple years old now and wanted to know if getting it would even be worth it
Perkyboy1992@reddit
I have it with 12400 intel. I play 1080 and she is enough for all games i play. Total war series, paradox titles, ac creed. All max detail with raytracing. Only in witcher i drop under 60fps that i noticed. In tw series, with like 10k soldiers, also drops fps on all max.
I played warzone, all max, locked in 60fps
It comes to dropps sometimes in certain situations but only few times in hour of playing
DDDX_cro@reddit
hahahahaahaha 3060 and raytracing??? Sure, at 20 FPS maybe!
Don't spit out lies mate, Sons of the forest for example, with medium details and with zero raytracing is barely playable.
Star citizen with details to lowest is average 20 FPS, with some areas under 15, and with any raytracing on gets gutted to 10 FPS (such as in Orison, with Volumetric clouds on).
Yes, you can play SOME newer games on 3060, but on low or at best medium settings. And 1080 and 3060 are very similar in performance. And I wager you couldn't play any 2025 title, even on the lowest settings, with 3060 - or just barely.
I would not be getting a 3060 today. Maybe 3060-ti (about 15-20% stronger) IF you can snag a cheap used one.
SnooChipmunks9532@reddit
Ur full of shit.
DDDX_cro@reddit
Dude. 3060 is the lowest card from 3 generations ago. 4000 series, and 5000 series have came since then. And you want to play the newst titles with it. Ok ...lol.
Perkyboy1992@reddit
As i said, in witcher with raytracing its under 60 , without its 60 constant. You should think before showing the world how stupid you areenlightment
DDDX_cro@reddit
dude you are a riot!
"All games I play" means absolutely nothing to someone else. Worthless.
It's like saying the cheapest possible card is great because you can play Minesweeper and Solitaire on it. Who the fuck cares???
Learn to read.
"I have been trying to choose a good GPU to use for a PC".
No, getting TWO 3060 in 2025 is not a good advice by any metric you pick. Never.
It's actually the worst possible advice you can give to someone.
"Sure, just buy 2 outdated old cards". Great advice there. Clown.
Perkyboy1992@reddit
I gave facts, not advice. 👌
DDDX_cro@reddit
dude asked for advice, you gave some vague, BS info that benefits nobody while doing nothing to yell FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GET 2X 3060!!!!
...like you should have. Literally all you should have done.
Pindaput@reddit
Its on 1080p maybe read again
DDDX_cro@reddit
message to everyone (!!!) in 2026.
DO!!! NOT!!!! BUY!!!! 3060!!!! AND!!! TRIPPLY!!!! SO!!!! DO!!! NOT!!! BUY!!!. TWO!!! 3060!!!!
Now, 3060-ti MIGHT (!) get you places still, for low money if you can get a cheap used one. I had both the 3060 and then 3060-ti (gave 3060 to girlfriend) so I know what it can do.
Yes, I only ever play on 1080p. 3060 still shit in 2026.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Honestly this is what I needed to hear, thank you!
ThenOstrich1997@reddit
I have one and I haven’t had this problem at all. I got about 80-90fps on helldivers in 1440 and that was with a 5600x. I upgraded to a 5700x3D and I saw a decent increase in fps. I got 90fps on cyberpunkat 1440. I get 170fps on r6 siege I cap it at 144fps. When I was playing apex I got over 100fps (I don’t remember the exact number I haven’t played in a while). I’ve had no issues with it at all.
DDDX_cro@reddit
it's very false info, tread carefully. Source - I bought my GF a 3060 and I own a 3060-ti)
Purple_Commission932@reddit
3060 is life, waiting for something that could serve same value as it did prob 6060 if it's loaded with 12 gigs
fighters-eye@reddit
I have one with my 5800xt and it’s amazing still man, can’t run every game on ultra, but every game gets 60+ fps with no oc and dlss on. Super budget friendly 😛
RsXboxKhaka@reddit
Late to the conversation but I just got one and running 1440p with no issues around 100fps. Warzone however, around 80-100fps on low settings but on my monitor it doesn’t look horrible. On my 1080p monitor, I’m getting 150+ on mid settings.
DDDX_cro@reddit
3060, TrueHD, 40+ FPS in:
Green hell - medium settings,
Sons of the forest - low/medium settings
7 days to die - low/medium settings
Dying light 1 - medium settings
Star Citizen - barely 20 FPS at lowest settings
...just to name a few. None of those had any raytracing turned on. And none of those games are exactly new :/
Buying 2 and SLI-ing them will give you very little, if any at all, benefit.
WolverineWestern2220@reddit
there is something wrong with your 3060
tiltontime@reddit
Hey man, I have an RTX 3060 and I find I can still play pretty much everything on the highest settings (albeit I haven't bought a AAA game in the last 12 months or so). E.g. Cyberpunk is on all max settings runs sweet, Witcher 3 with all enhanced ultra textures etc. runs the same. I think it's a great card still tbh. I'm not especially techy so don't know about all the comments on raytracing (not sure if I have that on).
If you're on a budget I don't think you'll be disappointed.
CrustyPotatoPeel@reddit
I mean its a 2 generations old lower end of midrange GPU.
Unicorn_puke@reddit
I have a 3060 and just bought a 9070xt to replace it. 3060 ran stuff okay, but unless you're looking at a budget system for casual gaming that doesn't rely on raytracing or any fps from the last year.
There's better for the price it is. Like even 4060 is better because it's like 6000mhz faster.
Zugas@reddit
I made the mistake of upgrading to 1440p with the 3600, I would say it’s better for 1080.
GonstroCZ@reddit
Why do you want 2x 3060 ??
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Cause I can afford it
GonstroCZ@reddit
But you know its doesn't work for years anymore like that, that you will get 2x3060 and you will get double performance right? you will get like 2 more fps and unstable system
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
I have done my research, running two or more isn’t as bad as people say it is
GonstroCZ@reddit
Then you clearly made an extremely wrong research. My honest recommendation is to get a better GPU instead of two 3060s. You will thank yourself for doing that later.
If you want to cause yourself only problems, go with with your current plan...
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Then why not just say look for better in the first place dude. That’s all I wanted to know
GonstroCZ@reddit
Well.. you seemed convinced that you know what you are doing :D
Multiple GPUs can be good for some specific heavy workloads, but for gaming there is no benefit, only drawbacks.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Nah, I haven’t been in the realm of PCs in a long while now, exactly why I asked. Thank you, probably going to just save a bit of extra money somehow and get something better as a lot have suggested, appreciate it
GonstroCZ@reddit
np, btw I would avoid 5060 and 5080Ti 8GB model. the 8GB of VRAM is just "meh" in 2025 and for the price Nvidia is selling it for
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Noted, any personal recommendations to look at that are fairly priced? Cause I really don’t know where to look now. I either see extremely expensive or dirt cheap GPUs
GonstroCZ@reddit
budget?
flushfire@reddit
With that attitude I say just let him learn the hard way.
GonstroCZ@reddit
true, but we must try to make World a better place :,)
Maybe he will pass the kindness to someone else today
DDDX_cro@reddit
your logic is getting 2 old, half broken-down cars to tow a heavy load together, instead of buying a new single one for the same price, that has 3x the horsepower.
Zombie_Tech@reddit
Except only the 3090 supported NVLink.
_therealERNESTO_@reddit
If you only play games the second card won't do anything. They can only utilize one GPU.
If you do something that can run them in parallel and needs a lot of vram (like ai stuff or 3d rendering) it could make sense.
_therealERNESTO_@reddit
I've recently got one. It's alright, it runs almost everything at native 1080p 60fps but it's already starting to struggle with heavier games. If you are ok with playing at lower settings and below 60fps it's still fine, but if you want something that will maintain an higher standard in the coming years get something better. Even a 6700xt will have a good performance advantage and shouldn't cost too much.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Ah ok thank you, if you don’t mind me asking. What games would those be?
_therealERNESTO_@reddit
Wukong, Alan wake II, stalker 2, basically a lot of the big ue5 titles
From what I've seen the new doom also struggles to hit 60 at native 1080, but I haven't personally tried it.
zh4mst3rz@reddit
depended on your use case.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Gaming for the most part, I think the two most demanding games I play is The Isle, Minecraft with a bunch of mods and packs, Cyberpunk 2077 and maybe Destiny 2
DDDX_cro@reddit
Destiny 2 was ok-ish with 3060, on medium settings
semiblind234@reddit
I can't speak for the other games, but I play D2 and Minecraft with my ASUS 3060 dual fan, running dual 3440*1440 ultra wides, with absolutely zero issues. RDR2 runs well also.
Confident_Natural_42@reddit
I played Cyberpunk on an RX 570 without major issues, the 3060 blows that out of the water.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Good to know! Thank you
catcat1986@reddit
I have a 2070 super and I’m still able to play everything. On the big triple A titles I need lower the settings, but I can still play them.
I think the thing to ask is what type of games you play and how beautiful you want them to look. I find on reasonable budget you can play nearly any game, it’s just a questions of how great you want it to look.
Turbulent-Ad3794@reddit
You want two 3060s?
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Yea aiming for that
Turbulent-Ad3794@reddit
Hey man just seen your comment thread with another user in this post. Like him, I would strongly advise against SLI. It doesn't work like it used to - between say 2011-2016 it was very popular but since then there is absolutely no benefit.
A 3060 is about 180-200 dollars. You'd be better off getting a 6900 XT or 3080 for about 400 a piece.
Turbulent-Ad3794@reddit
But why? Are you building two machines? Or are you attempting to have them running in SLI? I'm confused bro please elaborate it's killing me oll
DunkerStatic@reddit
Wiat on the 9060 XT 16 gig and compare pricing.
If it's like a 100 difference, definitely get the 9060 XT 16 gig.
Will be like a 60 - 65 % difference in performance.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Noted, I definitely will do so
DunkerStatic@reddit
Oh I saw you wanted two 3060s? May I ask why? you won't get any benefit with that setup.
If you want a stronger gpu, just a 5070, 9070 (XT) or 5070 TI.
shazneg@reddit
What motherboard do you have that supports SLI? I thought that was discontinued a while ago.
useless_panda09@reddit
for 1080p60 in new games it’s still good. for 1080p with higher fps it still blows through esports titles, older games, indie games, etc. if you aren’t looking for higher resolution gaming for the newest AAA titles it’s still a good card assuming that the price you found them for is reasonable.
Cmdr_Grimm@reddit (OP)
Ah ok, thank you
