I have 2014 Santa Fe Sport AWD, tech package, clean exterior, no dings,, less than a year old new tires. Tech package with moon roof, heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel.
Everything works fine and still runs. The only issue, engine knocking sound when more than 3k-5krpm. As you may know, it is a common issue on Hyundai Santa fe, sonata and kia's engine recall.
I tried having hyundai dealership to replace the engine but they said corporate hyundai denied it and would like to charge me about 11k. They said reason being denied is neglect which is always the reason for most that got rejected when i researched about the issue.
I tried trading it in with the dealership but they said they are offering $0 for it, short term for no.
It still runs but we don't know until when the engine will blow or stall.
I'd like to sell it privately stating the issue and who ever may have a used engine or knows how to repair it at a lower cost.
How much do you think i can get out of it with the current state.
Carmax estimate is 1800 and clunkerjunker 1430.
Can i get more than those for private selling?

If you don't have the time/means/capability to swap in a running junkyard motor yourself, put it on fb marketplace for 2k as is, let a flipper haggle you down to 800-1500, and consider yourself done with it

You can try to find a junkyard engine, slap it in and get as far away from it as you can. Do the math before you commit to it though. You can try to see how much you can for it with a private sale but imo carmax’s 1800 is generous. I wouldn’t pay $800 for that thing

Exactly. 1800 is a steal. Any more to anyone privately would have to be a scummy sale.

Take the 1800.... Which might turn into zero as soon as you actually take the car in.

Another reason not to get (another) Hyundai/kia.
