What 3 row SUV do you recommend for 2025?

We have a larger family with 5 adults and a child plus 2 dogs that we often take on long road trips. Which SUV is reliable and has least chances of needing repairs? We currently have a GMC Yukon but the engine blew after only 3 years (we brought brand new)
Thank you in advance for your input!

The Armada will outlive the expedition or Yukon/suburban. Its cheaper, rides better, more reliable. Check out car care nuts review of it. Nissan gets a bad rap for their econo box cvt cars but their larger stuff has always been really well made.

I’d go with the plugin version of the Toyota Grand Highlander or its Lexus equivalent, the TX. I don’t think the Grand Highlander plugin has been released yet. Toyota usually puts the new tech in the Lexus first.

Go Toyota or Honda. Personally I’d go with Sienna minivan. It’s a hybrid that gets around 35mpg. You could also get a 3 row SUV from Toyota or Honda.

Thank you so much! I was looking at a Toyota Sequoia, but need to see interior as we really loved the interior of the Yukon :(
granolaraisin@reddit
Sequoia is horrible as a full size truck. Poor storage capacity and brittle ride. Rear seats are more like jump seats than actual chairs. If you want space, comfort, and practicality go with the minivan.
If you really want a truck the Americans really do full size vehicles the best. You may have had a bad experience with GMC but there are millions of other buyers who have had generally positive experiences with the same vehicles. Hell, I have a Tahoe that’s caught up in the ongoing 6.2L engine debacle and we’ll likely get another Tahoe after this one because the truck is simple very good at what it tries to do.

What about the grand Highlander. Seems like a compromise to the sienna but still an SUV
TheHatKing@reddit
Sequoia is good as well if you like an SUV over a van. Also underrated is a Nissan armada

My Honda Pilot is great.

Get a van.

We really like the ride of a truck frame and we need the large trunk space as we haul a lot of things as well
1TONcherk@reddit
Sounds like the only real option then is an expedition max. My father in law has one. My dad has a 2nd gen sequoia and it is great, but has no trunk space when the 3rd row is in use.
le_toilet@reddit
if you're not already familiar, there is a huge recall on the GM V8 engines. that being said for that many people you probably should get a sprinter van or something like that.
DD_CD@reddit
The recall is only through model year 2024.
But at this point with so many lawsuits against GM, I would not trust them.
MN-Car-Guy@reddit
Only on the 6.2L
Local_Yak8596@reddit
Definitely Honda Pilot. Most reliable, room for 8 with split seats in rear rows. Check to see if you all fit.

Suburban in case you need to also move a house
MaleficentExtent1777@reddit
Yep! Or an Expedition Max.
The Escalade IQL is even bigger than the Suburban.

We just got a 2025 Pilot (Touring) after considering/looking at a CX90, Highlander, Grand Highlander, and Pallisade. The Pilot gave us the best of what we wanted, which was essentially a reliable 3rd row SUV with some tech, but not overkill, and not too small and not too big. A few quick notes about the competition. The Highlander's 3rd row seat is essentially useless. The CX90 is beautiful, but there's very little wiggle room on the price, and they're pricey when you get to the higher trims...and I read that to do virtually any service on it can be tricky and the long term reliability is a little questionable. The Pallisade (Calligraphy) was nice, but overkill with tech...to some, the tech I'm sure is appealing, to my wife not so much. I also couldn't wrap my head around spending the same money on a Kia or Hyundai that I could on a Honda. If the comparably equipped Telluride or Pallisade was let's say 10% cheaper, sure, maybe, but that's not the case. The Grand Highlander just felt too big. We were able to get a really good deal on the Pilot, using the Costco program (look into it if you're a member, but the value of it (discount) varies greatly from what I understand by region/manufacturer/model). We got almost $5K off our brand new Touring in Massachusetts.

Ford Explorer or Subaru Ascent

Minivan, Honda or Toyota.
Honda has sucky fuel mileage but is the last of the gas minivans. Toyota has an amazing mpg hybrid but mid row seats don’t come out.
Toyota may go a bit further in the end but based on previous models, I’m thinking they both go 200k+ with the exception of accidents.

Pilot 10/10 times

Pilot or Armada

Minivan would be better, but the hybrid grand highlander should also work.
Savings-Wallaby7392@reddit
The Acadia or traverse btw is gigantic inside if want big and cheaper
OverCorpAmerica@reddit
Highlander! Is that a 3 row? I believe it is… great vehicles that rarely break, hold their value, comfortable and smooth ride, great tech.

Gen2 Sequoia
First-County-4667@reddit
Is a Honda Pilot too small for you? I’ve had 8 people in mine. Split third row lets you load 6 people and a dog. The Pilot is super reliable
Legitimate-Fly4797@reddit
Expedition or Grand Highlander?
nopoonintended@reddit
Kia Telluride is solid we love it and all of the features are hard to beat for the price point
Apprehensive-Cycle-9@reddit
The Expedition should be very reliable now. They've resolved the earlier cam phaser issue in '21 and updated the transmissions for '23+
gearhead5015@reddit
With that many adults, I'd buy a Minivan
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
That's getting to be big family size.
Maybe need to upgrade to something a little more commercial. Consider a Transit or a Sprinter.
BuyTimely3319@reddit
Everything is a crap shoot nowadays. The 3rd Gen 3.5L v6's in the Expeditions have come a very long way & are pretty reliable.
