Never seen this before! Anybody has any idea why so many houses on sale lately?

I look at Rightmove from time to time as an entertainment but recently, it looks rather strange. Never seen this much listings on the market before (1,900) Is this a sign of something?
Much-Heart200@reddit
I believe there is a new dogging site near by, apparently

mousecatcher4@reddit
Not an increase number of sales. Just that the ones out there or not being sold at the prices being asked.
MakeBrainThink@reddit (OP)
That actually makes sense, that means theyāre just piling upā¦
smt1597@reddit
Because, immigrants wants to buy these shit houses for whole lot of money than these really cost today.
MakeBrainThink@reddit (OP)
Do you think the immigrants probably have better grammar and punctuation than you and maybe thatās why they are able to? What immigrants are you talking about? Who in the world overpays for anything? Are you living in the same planet as us?
Ok-Kitchen2768@reddit
It's predominantly rentals being sold by landlords because they're changing something and they won't earn much money I guess?
You know this is true for 2 reasons, 1) they are ridiculously overpriced for what they are and 2) most of them say in the listing "tennant in situ"
Amicable mention 3) the paint and decor is very bland landlord style.
Beer-Milkshakes@reddit
Bland in that it's gloss and off white. Landlord because it hasn't actually been updated properly since 1997
StreetMountain9709@reddit
Landlord refusing to give the tenants their deposits back, due to the 30 year untouched wear and tear.

People's have realised they live in Milton Keynes.Ā
benroon@reddit
Recently sold my house in Oakgrove for £37k over the asking price!
darybrain@reddit
Next round is on you then.
benroon@reddit
Could have sold it for even more but I gave my word to someone and kept it, even after the sold sign went up, people were still knocking saying they would beat it. Mostly loaded young couples from Hong Kong who have decided MK is their future.
Up_The__Toffees@reddit
All a man has is his word and his balls, well done for keeping them
Superb_Sherbet5595@reddit
Rentals in Milton Keynes are ridiculous 1200-1400 for a 1 bed, with the commuter crowd pushing up value, most can't afford it people leaving the area demand will be down. It's utterly insane.
darybrain@reddit
It's mental. I'm trying to help someone find a 1 bed. Their renewal date is coining up and the landlord wants an 11% increase from 1200 to 1350 even though the landlord has never fixed anything in the 2 years they have been there and over the past year a late night restaurant moved in directly under the flat and the music is quite loud coming through the floor. For someone who works as a waitress it is insane. I might have to tell them to move to Northampton and find work there. Moving into a shared house would normally be an option but this girl is a survivor of both domestic abuse and rape so is far too scared to live with strangers. MK has always been in an odd bubble with high rates due to the businesses and folks travelling in for short periods but right now rental prices are fucked.
OneZucchini9260@reddit
Do you think you are disclosing too much information about this girl? Local who may be able to identify her by your information.
dark_horse_1111@reddit
Spot on
darybrain@reddit
No, there is nowhere near enough information to identify her. Anyone who could would know much more already and they would have got that from her directly. There are no privacy or consent issues with saying that a person has suffered some form of trauma without giving any real indication of who, what, and where they are.
Medusas_Kiss@reddit
Just the idea of paying that in rent is eye watering.
How is it just accepted that it's the norm?
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
My house actually went on the market today. My business is stalling after 16 years, and I'm selling so I don't eventually lose both my house and my business. I'm moving to Scotland where I can literally buy a 2-bed house outright.
OkBusiness6359@reddit
Sorry to hear that about your business. Hope the move all goes well for you.
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
Thank you. I only bought the house last year as well. I literally couldn't have wasted more money in a year if I'd tried.
I'll miss my friends and family (I have friends in Scotland though) but I won't miss shonky MK drivers!!
Dat_Boi_2088@reddit
As someone who lives in scotland, drivers here aren't any better š
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
I just spent 2 weeks up there and it was bliss. My first thought at a big roundabout was "you can't out-roundabout me motherf*ckers" but nobody tried to. They just drove like normal people. It was wild.
Dat_Boi_2088@reddit
I mean, most of the time, the drivers are okay-ish, but you can get the occasional idiot that either forces their right of way, or is too stubborn to pass you and insists on letting you pass them first.
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
There's always one of those wherever you go (usually driving an Audi). MK is full of them though. Barely any literal indication of where they're going.
Scotland was such a relaxing place to drive (not around Edinburgh though obvs!)
Maumau93@reddit
Definitely not round Edinburgh, when I was doing 30k miles a year I bought a dash cam because I almost got killed too many times...
OkBusiness6359@reddit
Ah man, Iām sorry. At least you tried though, so many people dream about a business/house move idea but donāt follow through and always wonder what if, but at least you were brave enough to give it all a shot.
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
Thank you. That means a lot.
The house went on Rightmove yesterday and I already have 2 viewings booked in so hopefully, it will sell quickly!

As a Scott can i just say fuck your business and everything else, we've spent years fighting for this land and not so cunts like you get a get out of jail free card, plenty of us Scott's get refused these deals for us and our families but cause you own property you jump the que, It's that cheap to help our own people in poverty not so you can stay rich, I'd give my left baw to have one house and here you are winging about two

Rental market is collapsing, landlords are selling up, higher taxes, more regulation, higher interest rates are making it less viable.
Unique-Landscape-860@reddit
I lost my bag in Newport Pagnal
Hidden_But_Here@reddit
There's a couple of houses on Oxley park that have been on the market for 2 years. Price surged after the lockdowns and people "working from home". Price has settled in some cases stagnated. Employers moving away from fully remote roles forcing some to move back closer to London.
Also, don't forget the huge amounts of new builds going up. Must be about 700+ new flats listed on there alone.
cooperca45@reddit
As someone who is looking for a new build flat there really isn't that many in the centre. Technology House in the only one that comes to mind.
Most of the flats are for built for rent.
Hidden_But_Here@reddit
That didn't seem right to me, on Rightmove I get 194 results for the centre and Campbell Wharf?

I thought we were talking new builds though? Your link includes all property types and doesn't specify they have to be new builds. Add those and you're down to 26 flats.

Landlords getting rid because cost to return is too low?
Could even be people wanting to get away from Universal, or many redundancies in the area and people moving to other jobs.
The possibilities are endless.
wallpaper_01@reddit
Probably a bit soon for the Universal thing
Fresh_Mood1420@reddit
People want to get the fuck out of Milton Keynes
SmallCatBigMeow@reddit
Markets typically perk up this time of year. Many people have thought of selling for a while and this is the best time since 2021. People are buying again.
LeftPeg001@reddit
apparently - according to the British home sellers guy, there are more homes for sale right now than there ever has been.
The stamp duty increase is a big part of it. Those that wanted to move this year got their business done early to avoid extortionate rates.
Fist time buyers seem to be at a low as well as investors (thanks to Labour). These two groups usually drive the market forward as they are the first movers.
Factoring in increasing cost of living and real terms stagnant wages, people simply havenāt got the money to move.

Bitcoin investment.
Joseph_HTMP@reddit
A lot of properties are sitting on the market for ages. There are houses near me that in a normal time would be snapped up in days, but have been sat there for sale for almost a year. Iāve seen some crazy prices being asked for as well, assuming this is estate agents trying to cover the costs of a c lack of movement in the market. So that is all probably contributing to a high amount of properties for sale, as well as landlords selling up.
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
The house went on Rightmove yesterday and I already have 2 viewings booked in so hopefully, it will sell quickly. The mortgage is crippling me.
Delly_boi_80@reddit
We have two houses up our way that have been on the market away now. Iāve seen their asking price come down as the sellers have realised their asking price is too high
Joseph_HTMP@reddit
For some reason the prices in Stony are staying silly. I think along with the economic uncertainty itās having a real cooling effect on the market.
cooperca45@reddit
I saw this exact house the other day and thought the price was insane!
Cool property but yeah that price feels very unrealistic.
winterproject@reddit
Whilst itās not the best looking or located that is a grade 2 listed building. I had a hunch thatās where the link was going to take me. I get what you mean though as Stoney bucks the trend but thatās a poor example as itās part of MKs history.
Joseph_HTMP@reddit
Youāre totally paying for the location and āprestigeā. Theyāre small, in a very noisy town centre and have no gardens or outside space. Who is going to pay over half a million for a four bed place with no garden?? Itās utterly barmy.
Also, being listed should knock value off the properly, not make it more expensive. Buying listed property is a pain in the ass.
Pachamac@reddit
Silly is an understatement
moj_91@reddit
It shows that house price increases are unsustainable, if anything. The risk of course being that everything gets snapped up by a corporate body who gain excessive market control as a result, as is happening in the US.
Lumpy-Combination847@reddit
Probably fed up with all the roundabouts.
Nimble_Natu177@reddit
Landlords saying peace out, a lot of Stony is up for grabs at the moment.
NoisyScrubBirb@reddit
And my family are still so confused as to why I don't want to move back to be closer to them. The rent prices aren't any better and I'm quite content living in Wales with a 2 bed terrace house for £700 it would be at least double in MK for a 1 bed, I moved here to get away from the stupid prices
dilithium-dreamer@reddit
I'm moving away for the same reason. Scotland, where I can buy a house for £80K. I moved here to be closer to my family and now I can't afford to be here ad pay my mortgage by myself.
BananaHomunculus@reddit
Probably because there's no good restaurants
AvadaBalaclava@reddit
I know a couple of people who have downsized due to the mortgage rates getting out of hand.
Also a few trying to buy but the sellers donāt understand that the cost of borrowing has gone up so much in the last few years that maybe they arenāt going to have their hand snatched off
darybrain@reddit
I know quite a few older folk that have downsized after their kids grew up, left the house, and started families of their own. They all understand why they had to do it but they hate it having lived in and looked after a home for 40+ years. Extra income for later on as well if they ever need professional care.
poxelsaiyuri@reddit
Quite a few Iāve seen are hmos with tenants which limits the marketability
buamra@reddit
Comments on this post are contradictory. I guess itās the same in the whole market not only in MK?
Pachamac@reddit
Moved out of MK to a surrounding town last November, house prices in MK are getting ridiculous.
