That's a 1987 Conquest TSI, I had the exact same car back in 1987 and I Miss it so bad. I loved my car and would buy another one if I ever find one in good shape.
Mostly here but if not I just find them locally, like people have random starion parts and they find no use for them and end up giving them to me for free lol!!!
Can’t. Dad owned 3 (‘84, ‘86 and this ‘88 ESi-R) and it was the first car I learned to drive. Still miss it but my god was it a pain in the ass to maintain. Sold this one 30 years to the day he bought it when it blew its 4th engine that at this point had 235k miles on it. It was far from stock as it had the ‘Spanish Head’ and was fully studded and rewired. What killed the engine was the oil pump chain losing tension while doing freeway speeds. If we still had it and I had the space I would probably sacrifice my SN95 to keep it on the road.
Dad owned one (Starion ESi-R) for 30 years. I miss it but holy smokes was it a PIA to keep maintained. He got rid of it 30 years to the day he bought it when it blew its 4th engine. It had 235k on it.

Don't know where you are, but you may be thinking of the Plymouth Laser, which was indeed terrible until it became a triplet with the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon.
The Chrysler Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion twins are considerably cooler
80’s style out the wazoo… pure CAD/CAM polygonal styling, Turbo graphics everywhere packaged in a joint Japanese-US venture, slightly odd-ball car that most people don’t remember and will mistake for several other cars and parts will be hard to find beyond some basic engine parts that are common across Mitsubishi’s whole fleet. Major project car cred.
I will post this again in the hopes that someone will take me up on the idea of a Japanese alternative to the Firebird’s Screaming Chicken and the Mustang II/Fox Cobra packages.
I had a black one and loved it. Went to 13lbs boost and changing to dual large injectors helped make it a lot of fun. In the end, it turned horribly unreliable. One week it was the fuel pump, then the mass air flow sensor, then wiring, then something else. Things just took too much time and money, and I bought a Toyota to replace it. Five years with the Toyota and the only thing it needed was one of the two electric radiator fans replaced. I didn't even need to do the clutch or brakes.
So, if you have a reliable one, I'd give you a solid eight. If you have an unreliable one, a three for the cool body and great wheels.
I think the fastest I've ever been in a car was in one of those. My brother was driving and pretty sure he hit 120 something on backroads. If you ever come across one for sale with hand prints imbedded in the door trim, that might have been his.
Also recall getting in a race with one when I had my N/A 300ZX. As you can probably guess, it did not go well for me. That was a fast little car for its day.
Being an owner of one, I'll happily roast away! I'm going to assume it's a 2.6L.
All the style with none of the go. At least engine parts will always be available thanks to the number of forklifts and Caravans sharing the same anchor. Turbo charged? That's quaint. It can be turned up to 15 lbs of boost and still make less power than a v6 Toyota Camry. All the while the rod bearings are doing their best to make it to 50,000 miles.
It's a real shame too with how hard Mitsubishi tried to convince you it's fast. "Turbo" printed on the seatbelts, door handles (some years) and even across the back hatch. It's like they were trying to convince themselves that they had a real sports car on their hands. Or at least convince other motorists not to embarrass you in a drag race.
It could be made to handle if it didn't weigh nearly 3000 lbs. Somehow a car that's barely bigger than a Miata weighs as much as a family sedan; it boggles the mind. Let's not forget that so many of these ended up in landfills with cracked heads and spun rod bearings that the aftermarket has all but forgotten such a car existed.
But hey, at least 80% of people out there will admire your clean 944 or Supra.
Jesus, dude. A VehiCROSS & a Starion! You said "What's the rarest car I can find that nobody cares a lick about?" and then said just one wasn't enough. That's oddball taste I can get behind.
I believe it! I've looked at both of those cars myself, came super close to buying a Conquest, but I already have my "Nobody knows what that is" rare truck that I can barely get parts for and not enough space for a Radwood coupe. I'm glad to know someone out there has such a fantastic (at least) two car garage though.
The irony is that after owning the Starion I told myself I'd never get another hard-to-find vehicle because I was tired of trying to source parts or make my own.... And then I bought the Vehicross.
All least the only thing unique to the Vehicross is the body and interior; otherwise it's just a Trooper so drivetrain, suspension and chassis is easy to find parts for.
I am a former Starquest owner - enjoy putting way too much money into an engine build to realize the only way you're going anywhere is with an engine swap.
