Anyone else can't finish the show because you love it too much?

I always make it towards the end of S6, but never the last few episodes. The thought of every episode of the show having been watched and finished terrifies me. I'm not so sure that there's life after Xena. This show means so much to me - it resonates with me like no other show/movie has ever had. I feel like Lucy in Deja Vu All Over Again.
The spoilers are inevitable around here, and I kinda know what might happen in the end ❤️🩹
How did you guys manage to finish the show? What did you do after Xena was over? How did you cope with the emptiness and knowing such a show can never ever be made again?
flynnigan14@reddit
After I finish it, I read the subtext virtual season scripts. It's fanfic but it's 4 more seasons and I really like most of the episodes. I love how they brought back Xena in the first two episodes, titled, "A Friend Indeed."

These are really good. I'm part way through Season 7 and well worth reading.

Thank you 🙏

Just don't watch AFIN. End with whatever Season 6 episode is your favourite and then start over again. Or, what I like to do, just jumble the episodes up. I yoyo between all the episodes in random order, so it doesn't feel like I'm coming to an end.
summer_james2@reddit
Finish it. Then cry. Then watch it all over again. It never ends if you start over.
IseQween@reddit
Yes, maybe throw in fan fics and videos for different takes on how X&G continued on together and visions of what you loved about the show.
summer_james2@reddit
Is this a request for me to do continuation fan fic vids?
🤣🤣🤣
IseQween@reddit
Well ... they're amazing. Lots of them, huge mood swings, much focus on perfection. Just concerned about any ... um, "supplements" you might be taking. Do you sleep? Have remedies against burnout? Could be this is how Najara got started. We know how that ended. I'd hate to be like the Jinn just to satisfy your fans.
summer_james2@reddit
To be honest. I love making them. For me, they can be a little challenging to get it started, the hardest part is the initial process of getting the video off the ground in the first instrumental part of the song and the opening lyrics. Once I get that part down it’s usually smooth sailing especially if the song hits.
The first part is just turning on music and listening and randomly finding the song. I don’t look for an edit or what I want in the edit. The song usually comes on randomly and is playing and i hear the melody and the lyrics and I tend to be able to come up on the spot, in my head, moments/scenes with Xena and Gabrielle to match those lyrics/melodies. So I tend to know the direction before I start, which makes it easier. But it can take me a couple hours to figure out the beginning. But the challenge is what makes it fun!
No supplements hahaha 👀 but I already have insomnia sooo might as well put my mind to work! Esp to service the fandom.
I mean najara is pretty fun though 🤣
IseQween@reddit
Okay, but based on that last hallucinogenic vid, I'll be keeping an eye on your development, just in case intervention seems needed. 🕵
summer_james2@reddit
Oh lord. Soooo I did a sort of crazy compilation video/ fanfic/not so fan fic based off things that actually happened in the series. Just shuffled a little. It’s pretty wild.
IseQween@reddit
Uh huh. We're here for ya. ☺
summer_james2@reddit
Haha. You may think it’s so stupid but I guess I’ll just post it later for fun. (Oh lord it’s gonna flop BAD!)
IseQween@reddit
Nope. Unexpected maybe, but never stupid. Good examples of Lucy's motto: "Do something scary. The payoff is awesome."
summer_james2@reddit
It’s up! 😬
summer_james2@reddit
I got goosebumps remembering her saying this. Lucy is inspiring.
summer_james2@reddit
Okay Xena!
🤣🤣🤣
A little crazy is okay though.. right 😬 haha
IseQween@reddit
It better be, considering we're all here obsessing over a "cheesy fantasy show" decades after it's finale.
summer_james2@reddit
Okay maybe more than a little crazy. But hell it’s their fault for making the show
summer_james2@reddit
😬🤣😜
summer_james2@reddit
Okay I may have your fanfic video idea. I’m currently doing another video but I’ll get to that. This one will take time. So I may work on others while working on that one to see how it goes.

Absolutely. Right there with you. Every couple of months I rewatch the whole show a few times in a row and I rarely watch the ending. Even if I do I just pretend there's a next episode where they somehow figured out how to bring her back and let myself wallow in that denial.
FilomenaMostar@reddit (OP)
That's really comforting to hear
theyarnllama@reddit
Me! I have never seen the end. I got through the first few eps of season six, and then realized I didn’t want it to end. This was ages ago, when it was first on. I have kept to this this whole time. I had a roomie who was a fan, and I would hide in my room when she got to the last episodes.
FilomenaMostar@reddit (OP)
🤣🤣 love this dedication. That's the energy we need
havefunbeyourself@reddit
i watched a little bit when it was on tv when i was little, but this past winter was the first time i revisited it and watched it all the way through and i became OBSESSED. i also accidentally found out what happened at the end before i got there, so i was especially stressed to get there!! and once i did… i immediately started rewatching and also listening to xena warrior podcast
FilomenaMostar@reddit (OP)
The girls from that podcast deserve all the praise. They make each episode feel way longer, detailed, and more meaningful
Latte-Catte@reddit
I actually find it difficult rewatching this beloved show, because the magical feeling of the first watch hasn't gone away for me yet.
rkmmc1@reddit
It's always rough finishing a beloved show. I'm watching the whole series for the first time and coming toward the end now. Other big ones for me: Farscape, BSG, Supernatural...
Kooky_Wear_4909@reddit
There was a comment on Whoosh that I saw on the episode Soul Posession, let’s just say the commenter didn’t love that episode, but at the end they said “But I'm not going to dwell on what might have been bad in this episode. I want to turn to what was good. I feel like if I sit here and tear down all that might not have worked for me in this episode, it would be like starting a fight with a close friend who is taking a long journey and I might never see again. And I don't want to do that.”
This is a comment from the time the episode aired, so they truly weren’t sure how long it would be before they’d be able to watch again. Obviously we have the privilege to revisit the show whenever. But it’s the way they described the show as an old friend…. I just know deep inside my heart that Xena will be with me everywhere I go in life. And it doesn’t matter how far I roam or what paths I may end up on, you never don’t need a visit from your old friend.
And then I watched the finale, and I seem to be alone in this but it gave me great closure. Not in the sense that I can move on from the show (never), but it just concluded the story nicely for me. I wasn’t sad that I had finished, because I knew that was only my first time. Instead, I’m grateful it gets to be in my life forever. Xena has made me a more grateful person. I believe it is the most well intentioned show that has ever been made, and I’m grateful to live in a world where people would try so hard to tell such an important story, and I’m even more grateful that I got to witness it.
Plus, if you haven’t watched My Life is Murder, watch that!! It gives me similar feelings to Xena, because it’s so beyond well intentioned. Lucy has said she wanted to make something good for the world, “a break for your nervous system” she called it.
IseQween@reddit
I love this comparison to an old friend. The longer I have them, the more what I value about them outweighs whatever bugs me. I too am a devotee of MLIM, anxiously awaiting the fifth (and probably final season).
Kooky_Wear_4909@reddit
Me too! I sure hope it’s not the last season. But I guess it’s just another old friend I get to have :)
IseQween@reddit
Lucy originally said she'd commit to 5.
EasyEntrepreneur666@reddit
I watched it all but I loath the finale for a variety of reasons.

In my latest rewatch I stopped at Many Happy Returns. As far as I'm concerned, FIN only happens in an alternate reality or fever dream. Then I go on to fanfics and vids until I'm drawn back to the show in full again. It never truly ends :).
RedwoodFox71@reddit
MI agree that A Friend In Need isn’t a truly finale of the show, as I think it is some sort of alternative version of a bad ending with the hero.
Dies in horrible and terrible way by Rob, while I too stop at Many Happy Returns as well. Is the real ending finale of the series or the Ring Trilogy, should be the finale ending of season 6 and the series.
stardust102@reddit
me to i just cant watch a friend in need usually either finish many happy returns or soul possesion i didnt like this akemi why bring her in for two eps
RedwoodFox71@reddit
I don’t think that anyone who loved the show could never rewatch the 2 parter of finale ending, without being upset, pissed or mad how the story went and how Xena was killed off and how Gabrielle was in the end.
Went out the love of her life with her and boss to be alone at the end of the show, while some fans probably prefer to have either When Fate Collide or Many Happy Returns. As their true finale episode of the show, while I choose out of order the Ring Trilogy. As my finale episode ending of season 6.
NauticaLilith@reddit
usually i get part way thru season 6 and just end up starting over since i rather like seasons 1 - 4 . i have a hard time getting into season 6 and especially finishing it.. i do like to ignore that part about Xena in the ending and just think >!they do go to Egypt together for new adventures! !<
ammiemarie@reddit
I never rewatch the last two episodes.
"A Friend In Need" never happened. 🙏
KLMc828@reddit
I go by what Lucy Lawless said the last two episodes are not canon.
RedwoodFox71@reddit
Lucy doesn’t need to tell us that, the 2 finale episodes don’t exist and isn’t canon. As we already want to believe that it isn’t.
Agent8699@reddit
I first finished it in 2001! And I’ve rewatched it many times since.
Maybe try the spaghetti order to “finish” season 6 the next time you watch it?
ChippieChamp@reddit
I’m halfway rewatching season 6 again as I know going to happen, as I haven’t watched the whole series since 15 years ago. As never watch the show when it originally aired, I started watching it around 5 years after the show had finish.
But I haven’t finished it yet, since I started re-watching again in January. But can’t find myself getting to the ending of season 6 yet, put it on hold watching the whole that season as still hate how it ended.
CptJack73@reddit
Tbh I have difficulties to finish season 4. The show took such a different direction in comparison with the first 3 seasons. Idk what it is exactly.
Next_Reflection4088@reddit
Wow I have such a different opinion. Season 4 and 5 were peak for me. So much character evolution.
I think if I had to make a fuss about anything it's that Lucy Lawless was taking a different approach with Xena's character. She wasn't this brooding, dark figure anymore and seemed more... normal, I guess?
Next_Reflection4088@reddit
I definitely finished it.
And then immediately started Season 1 over again.
UmamiKin@reddit
Just finished Xena last week after watching all episodes over the last couple of months with my partner. It was incredible and I was worried about not wanting to finish it and feeling sad about not having more adventures. As we got closer the more I wanted to finish because of how fun the last season was and really wanting to see how it concluded. I recommend finishing it and watching it again after some time has passed. It would sorta be like starting a new timeline for the characters as they are destined to keep finding each other.
Seed0fDiscord@reddit
One thing I do like with season 6 and the last stretch of episodes is that they each end the series in their own note
For Many Happy Returns, our last adventure to solely be set in Greece and last to feature Aphrodite and its remarkable seeing how different personality she is from her debut to her final appearance
Soil Possession, last adventure to feature Ares and brings some form of resolve for the modern day and or metafic episode
A Friend in Need, a conclusion to Xena’s story in one last epic showdown, Gabrielle gets to take on the mantle of who wields the chakram and the sense of how even with Xena dead, adventures across the ancient world will persist
quercus24@reddit
Yep, have never watched the finale episodes, though have heard enough that I don’t want to - yet.
