Removing primer

Hey guys, I have reason to believe that the primer on my passenger door the original paint is worthy of what I'm doing. I want to preserve the petina, original paint, and keep it as such. How does one remove primer gently/carefully enough to achieve that goal.. It appears that under the primer it looks like the rest of it.. Not sure why they had the primer on it

Whoa a Celica ST. I'm watching a build series on one of those on YT. Very cool car. Yours has a great look to it. I'm an old musclecar guy, but I think the Celica from that era had styling as good as anything coming out of Detroit.

Is that Dave's or Sarah's build?
Dude_Dillligence@reddit
I'm watching Sarah's. Her car is almost ready for the road. It's gonna be a BEAST.

I need to start with the beginning again for her series. She’s put in work on that thing.

She just dropped the video where it drives for the first time. It looks amazing.

AND she revealed something about the car that she has kept a secret for the entire two year build.

would help to see actual ptimer in question x amd try washing it with acetone, if ur lucky it's just 1k products used, also there's definitely a reason there's primer on it, possibly putty or sanded down to the steel, better to get it painted and colormatched, its patina isn't really that much patina like so it'll look alright

I honestly want to get it off to see the why as well.. There is a lot of great paint left on this car and I enjoy seeing the 50 years of history as is

its probably most likely primed due to a damage, sure you can try to wash with acetone if it don't get off for the love of god don't start sanding it off, you're gonna sand out alot of bare metal patches. easiest choice would be to get the door painted, atleast as a car painter that's my opinion

I'll start with the acetone.. I'm actually ok with a little damage, little

Of acetone doesn’t work, then try some Jasper Premium Paint and Epoxy Remover. I stripped multiple layers of paint off my Jeep Commando. Worked in small areas with a small paintbrush to put it on, let it set for a minute or so and then took it off with some 0000 steel wool.

Thanks man.. I'll try that too

remember it's probably been sanded before primed too tho, might not be much left underneath the primer, good luck tho would love updates on how it's looking!
