Is the new top gear trio actually confirmed?

I see everyone talking about it but when I look into it myself I only seem to find articles by like the sun or other newsletters citing the sun. Is this actually a serious thing or just a rumor. Because me personally I feel like this was the best possible outcome except for the train guy.
Firthbird@reddit
Throttle House is the only people I wanted to replace the trio..didn't think it would actually happen.
Now the third guy on the other hand, not sure we need him
peopeopeopeo10@reddit
Yes for me them being casted is like winning the lottery. Only youtube car channel I can watch being entertained, and now they're getting a huge budget to do the same
memorysorrowandthorn@reddit
I think you underestimate how much James may is like the train guy, James is a tried and true good presenter I find wonderfully entertaining, but definitely similar personalities so not as odd as you’d think.
PlanetLandon@reddit
I think a lot of people don’t realize that “the train guy” is a bit. Francis Bourgeois isn’t even his real name, his name is Luke Nicolson
kingoflint282@reddit
TH already filled the Top Gear void for me. It was a bit different, but scratched the same itch
xlouiex@reddit
The third guy should have been Matt Armstrong, at least he would always break down in their specials.
Ok_Pineapple1225@reddit
I have two words for you: Car Wow
Simply the best car content since TG and TGT
unapologetic-tur@reddit
The throttle house guys are excellent presenters and the two's channel best preserves the spirit of top gear and grand tour. In reviews, at least. Their roadtrips have been pretty shit.
The train guy truly is a complete meme pick and I have no idea why the fuck he's there. Kills any chemistry.
Blanchimont@reddit
I think the road trips have been fine, considering they're being compared to Top Gead and The Grand Tour while operating on only a fraction of the budget.
davidsigura@reddit
Throttle House dropped a video yesterday and in the comments hinted at the announcement, which I’m assuming they didn’t fully admit because it isn’t OFFICIAL official. But they did write a cheeky “other than that, can’t think of anything else to announce!” type of comment under their video. Which all but confirms it.
cyberdork@reddit
No, it’s all based on the Sun article which claims it had been leaked to them.
OreFresco@reddit
It's a shame they've got the train guy going on. He's clearly a meme choice. I'd have preferred the 'All the Gear' guys and a third person.
cannedrex2406@reddit
That's literally just old car throttle lol if you included Alex Kersten
OreFresco@reddit
Nah, it's a totally different dynamic to Car Throttle, Alex was irritating at the best of time imo.
MrGDPC@reddit
I'm just praising the lord that it wasn't Ed Bolian and his clown crew
Way-twofrequentflyer@reddit
I don’t have a problem with tavarish and Tyler is tolerable.
Jason camissa will be missed though
havok0159@reddit
Tavarish feels too much like he wants to make cool content, but missing the substance. His videos seem like updates, skipping the journey. Oh look, I bought this cool car, it's broken. Oh look, I took it apart. Yeah it took a while but I didn't film that. But here's what I wanna do to it. Am I going to show you anything more than a picture? No. I swear he'd be better off making only short form content for tiktok and the like. When it comes to project car content, I kinda want to see the project work actually being done. Probably why I liked the Evo guy he collaborates with. I forget his name. It's definitely why I like the knobheads at TDC.
Bake2727@reddit
Dude is basically a marketing tool now. Though a lot mod my favourite car guys have gone this commercial route, I understand the reason but it’s weird.
MrGDPC@reddit
I sat through their dumbass CarTrek or whatever and want my time back. I’ve never seen such a hack imitation job of the trio before in my life
lordtechpro@reddit
Well James from Throttle House did respond to a Redditor asking why they’ve not been releasing that many videos as of late (and he responded saying they’ve been working on some behind the scenes stuff): https://www.reddit.com/r/ThrottleHouse/s/E9LE1n82p6
I’m expecting great things from the Throttle House guys, but I have never heard about the TikTok guy.
It remains to be seen if Thomas and James will in fact leave behind their picturesque locations, expensive/fancy cars and be ready to get their socks muddy by driving off road, or want to drive vintage beat down cars in the middle of nowhere.
I say this because till the V12 7-Series and S-Class road trip, they used to to the same thing for every car review, intro, Thomas driving, James driving, interior segment, and finally the outro.
I feel they only really started to try new things when they visited the UK and were already in talks with the producers of The Grand Tour (so it’s a kind of reverse qualification test).
In any case we have 2 decades of content from the trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May which we can always watch again, if the new presenters don’t do justice
realloucypher69@reddit
I'm sorry, but those three would be completely unsuitable. I completely agree with Jeremy, who said that if he had a say, they would be three completely unknown car enthusiasts that no one knows yet. That completely rules out YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram idiots.
WhiteRaven42@reddit
It made no sense when JC said it and it makes no sense when you say it. As a simple matter of chance, the pre-selected pool of "people making some content" vs "people that have never made content", the chances of hitting some good, suitable talent is much, much greater pulling from YouTube etc.
dageshi@reddit
There's nobody left.
It's 2025, if you have the charisma and capability to be a tv presenter you almost inevitably have your own youtube channel or other social media.
Nikiaf@reddit
and it's not like the original trio were truly unknowns in the first place. Jeremy was very well established already, and James had written for automotive magazines as well as appeared on motoring TV shows. He therefore would have been at least somewhat known to the community. Richard was the biggest outsider, but he was also nominally famous as a radio presenter across various regions in the UK.
cannedrex2406@reddit
Richard was already doing car reviews immediately before top gear too
Professional_Bee1278@reddit
If I could pick three celebs at random...
Guy Martin.
Rowan Atkinson.
Chris Harris.
Xan_derous@reddit
I'll be 100% honest and I'll probably get flamed for this, but I really liked the group from TG America. With Dax and Rob Corddry. I liked the scripting and chemistry. But it feels like the studio or production company half assed it and I can only find like 5 episodes when I search for it.
Crazy_Fac3@reddit
I’ll get on the flame train and publicly disclose that I thought Matt Leblanc was a great presenter…
Way-twofrequentflyer@reddit
He was great! He was just surrounded by people with no chemistry
-n8r@reddit (OP)
I don’t know about these guys, but the older top gear American crew with tanner and rut and the other guy was actually pretty good.
brokenlampPMW2@reddit
Yeah, I liked the original Top Gear US. I know they'd be open to returning too.
matthewy28@reddit
Was honestly wondering this myself. Don’t know much about the new people but the train guy threw me off lol
-n8r@reddit (OP)
I think they brought the train guy in to be quirky or whatever, but Thomas and James are already a very entertaining duo
Nikiaf@reddit
It's funny because they've been branded as "millennial top gear" for years already, things are really coming full circle with them actually getting tapped to host top gear's spiritual successor.
matthewy28@reddit
Yeah I think you’re right. I hope I’m wrong about him and he’s got a great James may type humor but I won’t get my hopes up
Stierscheisse@reddit
Watch his video with Chris Harris, then you might have an idea.
MrIrrelevantsHypeMan@reddit
Should have just brought in Tanner, Adam and Rut. They know the format, they got the experience, and some familiarity with the audience
Cleverlunchbox@reddit
I’m not excited
I have however began my ten thousandth rerun of the trio
So there’s that
Beahner@reddit
We’ve always got 20 years of the trio. No matter what that can’t be taken away.
Nothing was going to excite me as it’s not the big three, but I am intrigued here for the fact that a lot of the behind the scene crew will be on board.
I know nothing about the third kid, but I checked the Throttle House guys a bit and they aren’t atrocious. I’m intrigued to see how they do with TG/TGT veterans working with them.
BabyWrinkles@reddit
2026 has entered the chat.
ItsTimetoLANK@reddit
baby crying noises
Grolbu@reddit
Hardly anybody knows all three of the new trio, most people seem to know either the Throttle House guys or the train guy. The people who know the Throttle House guys are excited for it, the people like me who only know the train guy are keeping very quiet and wondering whether he's going to bring the head cameras with him - after all, that and the screaming is what he's known for ...
Crazy_Fac3@reddit
To YouTube I go… I must research this “train guy” you speak of. My judgement won’t come swift or hard. I’ll let the show play itself out and then decide the weakest link.
Grolbu@reddit
I don't know the Throttle House guys but I don't know about Francis. From all of his social media, not just youtube, he's genuinely a nice guy and a huge (train) nerd and should be good - but I can't ignore the trademark head cameras and screaming with excitement LOL
