What is your brutally honest opinion of the singer P!nk(born 1979)?

I liked her right up until she dismissed the anti-circumcision protestor, as if being against the genital mutilation of infants isn't a worthy cause.
GotThatGrass@reddit
Uhh its to fix medical peoblems smtimes
usernamen_77@reddit
My brutally honest opinion is that “catch me while I’m sleeping” is a jam
BastaAlready@reddit
I love Pink. Though in this pic she looks like Pete Davidson.
undertherye@reddit
She is absolutely amazing. So talented and seems like a good person. However, and I have no idea why, but her songs really take me to a dark place. I don’t know if I associate them with negative times in my life (probably) but I just can’t listen to her. Much respect to her though!
Fantastic-Setting-26@reddit
Great singer and performer
LoganJamesMusic@reddit
She sucks.
Fruscione@reddit
Amazing artist. Can dance while holding notes.
ncjr591@reddit
Catchy music, sexy body but I don’t like her face.
everett3rd@reddit
She's better at it than I am.
auramaelstrom@reddit
She has a fantastic voice and puts on a great show. I don't think she is my favorite artist or genre, but I do enjoy her music.
TheAdminsAreTrash@reddit
I don't generally listen to her music and even I know she's good stuff, really talented, great voice, good attitude. Not sure what kind of "brutal honesty" OP is looking for.
PogintheMachine@reddit
I think she’s a good singer but I do find her music to be the epitome of generic fem power-anthem pop rock.
Not for me, but she’s got her niche and that’s fine.
commandantskip@reddit
Sounds like OP was hoping we'd drag Pink.
Twitter_2006@reddit (OP)
Not at all. I like all five singers from the 2000's.P!nk, Christina,Avril, Britney and Kelly. I heard most people who like P!nk are 40+ so I asked the question.
readyforthisyep@reddit
I honestly can’t figure out who « Kelly » is. The first one that comes to my mind is Rowland, but in the Destiny’s Child, not as a solo artist. In my defence, I’m not American. As for the rest of the list, Avril Lavigne is the only one I dislike.
tronassembled@reddit
Clarkson was my first guess but I dunno
readyforthisyep@reddit
Thanks! I googled her.
moeru_gumi@reddit
Who’s Kelly?
remycatt@reddit
Maybe Kelly Clarkson
BudTenderShmudTender@reddit
My mom is 63 and loooooves Pink. I think that she has a lot of good songs but she sounds a little screechy for me when she gets into the higher notes and it’s a big turnoff. But she’s also not the kind of music I listen to in general
TheAdminsAreTrash@reddit
Fair enough, tho you'd probably get some more 'flavourful' responses for Christina or Britney. I can still smell the music video for "Dirty"
Twitter_2006@reddit (OP)
Yeah. I like all five as I said before, but I prefer Avril and Kelly the most. All 5 are super talented.

Kelly and Avril were non-existent in the 90s. American Idol didn’t happen until 2002, and Avril’s debut album came out the same year. OP has also erased all BIPOC vocalists (enter Mariah and Whitney).
Notwastingtimeiswear@reddit
En Vogue and TLC were queens before Destiny's Child! There are so many other, too
Livid-Cat4507@reddit
Salt n Pepa even before them.
harlembornnbred@reddit
Seriously lmao. They said Kelly but no Beyonce, Rhianna, Milian that's crazy
NotActuallyJen@reddit
Ashanti
sharielane@reddit
Seriously. I was thinking perhaps they were just talking about all the blond Britney clones that popped up in that era, but then they put Kelly (I assume Clarkson, not Rowland) there and it had me scratching my head.
timbreandsteel@reddit
Clarkson or Osbourne?
snoocs@reddit
Rowland.
Global-Jury8810@reddit
Both. Give Osborne credit for her one 2003 hit.
InterestingTry5190@reddit
One of my favorite SNL sketches from around that time is Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Christina in the making of the ‘Dirty’ video. She would keep stopping the video to yell “it’s not dirty enough! It’s not skanky enough!”
pee_nut_ninja@reddit

baconcandle2013@reddit
The slut shaming she had towards others in the music industry was no bueno
AbbreviationsBorn276@reddit
Yea this is me. I dun purposely listen to her stuff, but when she is on, she is good.
bighaircutforbigtuna@reddit
I saw her last year - it was an incredible show. I am not even a big fan, but my girlfriend likes her - but it was an amazing show.
National_Side_4938@reddit
Ya. She’s a serious performer
auramaelstrom@reddit
I saw her maybe 10 years ago, my dad bought me tickets for my birthday (I thought he had gotten me Taylor Swift tickets when I opened the envelope, sadly no and I literally cried). He was like you had her cd when you were 15, remember? I listened to her most recent stuff and went to the show and the acrobatics were phenomenal and her voice is natural and excellent. I was entertained.
Impriel2@reddit
Everyone I've ever known who's seen her live says she's like top tier live performance
idahotee@reddit
And FULL of rowdy women dancing and singing - I was entertained just watching her fans get amped up dancing to the piped in music pre show.
Her fans (my wife is one) are a dedicated bunch.
Dry_Today_9316@reddit
Ditto
ThePicassoGiraffe@reddit
This is pretty much where I am. Took my kid to see her a couple years ago and we both had a blast. She did some Pat Benatar covers too. She’s been working with basically all the same people in her band for all this time too (25 years?) so she has the respect of the other musicians and isnt a bitch to work with
zerocoolforschool@reddit
Yeah I can totally respect her talent. I never really connected with her. Not sure why. I think I didn’t really like her earlier music as much and then a lot of her later music was about serious breakups and I just couldn’t relate.
Tmoney_fantasyland@reddit
She puts on an AWESOME show
YOMAMACAN@reddit
I love her voice. I don’t listen to everything she releases but I almost always enjoy her music when I hear it.
SlapHappyDude@reddit
Yeah for me she's very much in that "not my favorite but hard to hate".
She clearly wanted to be more rock and got pushed more pop early in her career.
After_Preference_885@reddit
Her show was so fun and I was so impressed by how athletic she was with those acrobatics!
LH99@reddit
Yup amazing singer. Not a fan of her music but can’t deny her talent. Produced (a bit) by one of my favorite artists, butch walker and he said she was the most naturally gifted singer he ever worked with.
coltees_titties@reddit
Just want to add my appreciation for Butch Walker as well. Glad Marvelous 3 are back.
Final-Fun8500@reddit
I saw her open for Lenny Kravitz in the early 00s. Had no interest in her. Was surprised and impressed. Have still never sought out any of her music.
Lupiefighter@reddit
This sums it up.
DoctorPhart@reddit
Does she? I legit don’t know. I just remember Tim Armstrong from Rancid wrote a bunch of songs for her back in the day, so I assumed she didn’t write much of her own material in general.
Lupiefighter@reddit
He wrote some of her songs, but some of them were collaborations that they wrote together. When she writes for herself or other artists she uses her legal name so some people don’t realize she is the writer or co-writer.
seffend@reddit
This. I never listened to anything other than what was on the radio at the time and I was genuinely surprised to learn what an insane voice she has.
LearnTheirLetters@reddit
She always felt very manufactured to me. Kind of like Avril Lavine.
Ok-Nefariousness1683@reddit
Talented artist. Not my music style.
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
I didn’t like her style at all in high school. A decade later, I saw her doing covers of Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin songs and completely changed my mind.
Healthy-Neat-2989@reddit
The Bobby McGee cover changed my esteem for her instantly!
DeathStarVet@reddit
This. I really hated her image, but I saw her perform this song at the United We Stand concert and it blew me away.
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
Same for me!
Kronos1A9@reddit
CB West?
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
I think so!
Kronos1A9@reddit
Oh sorry I thought you were saying that as if you went to school with her. We went to the same middle school but different high schools.
PunchNmunch@reddit

Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
No worries, I was confused and thought you were talking about the guy playing guitar with her.
everybodydumb@reddit
The LA fires performance was incredible
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
That sounds really cool! I’d like to see it myself.
Heavyspire@reddit
The full set of her performance.
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
Thank you!
Heavyspire@reddit
The Bobby McGee cover gives me goosebumps with the passion she had in it. I think she does equally well on the Led Zepplin cover but I'm not a fan of that song as much so it doesn't hit as hard for me.
ParentalAdvisory2@reddit
I think she REALLY solidified herself as an older artist. Im sure she has young fans but i think she is considered an icon for that female mid 30s mother demo and older.
She also has that unconventional attractiveness/average looks that Kelly Clarkson does that other more average fans can relate to and honestly just feel good about themselves. They dont feel like they are aspiring to be glammed up sex symbols. They feel like people your kids would go to school with and be cool with
UnitHuge5400@reddit
Saw her in concert last year in SF. Her vocals while doing acrobatics were phenomenal. She is pretty unique.
DougChristiansen@reddit
Her version of Bobby McGee on AOL Sessions rivals Joplin. I actually prefer Pink on this one.
3JOHttud@reddit
Meh
Iloveallbugs@reddit
Looks like a man. Has always looked like a man.
Ok-Tradition8477@reddit
Super talented. Tons.
GroundAndSound@reddit
Fantastic. Real. Comfortable in her own skin. Saw her live and hadn’t been a fan. Now I am.
PointAlternative5383@reddit
She put out some good songs years ago. With that being said, it doesn't mean she is intelligent. She should keep her opinions about anything other than music to herself. Otherwise, she just looks like a Hollywood elitist telling the rest of us to "just eat cake".
Important-Panic1344@reddit
Astonished she’s not a one hit wonder. She’s like the black eyed peas wrapped up into one person
Complex_Preparation9@reddit
She’s ok
JPotential-706@reddit
She hated doing R&B but that girl could sing her ass off…that and she’s a total smoke show 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
Ogelthorpe-Ogie@reddit
Her performance at the DNC last year was insanely cringe
onihr1@reddit
I liked her music, but she looks like a dead ringer for an ex of mine. Can no longer enjoy her music without thinking about the ex.
Nice_Exercise5552@reddit
She has a fantastic voice and has more than a few bangers throughout her musical career. Also, she’s had fantastic staying power and has been making chart topping records for over a quarter century now!
Not all her songs are bangers though. I’m still am not a fan of Stupid Girls all of these years later! It was supposed to be a feminist anthem but was an anti-feminist, slut shaming, mess!
But we’ve all made mistakes. Still love P!NK!
Competitive_Soil1859@reddit
I absolutely love her voice!
Mirewen15@reddit
Saw her live last August. Sheryl Crow opened for her. It was amazing and she sounds phenomenal live.
GatorOnTheLawn@reddit
She’s one of the best singers out there, and she is a good role model for girls, unlike most of the pop singers around now.
Ravenveil@reddit
Decent music. The Girl power agenda is annoying.
EVOBlock@reddit
Love her. Her personality is infectious. She is super talented. And on top of all that, she is beautiful.
Beautiful-Fault-3695@reddit
I used to love Pink and all of her music 🎶, but she should've stuck to music & not inserted herself into politics or giving vaccine advice. She should never try and influence her fans on anything other than music 🎵. 🥴💯
Spicy_peppa@reddit
I asked her for the ketchup from her table at the Rock Store and didn’t realize who she was. She obliged.
sporms@reddit
It was decent pop music, I don’t put it on playlists, and I think it’s better than pop acts today. I liked that Ava Maria song a lot, I don’t think it was a single though.
Crowflier@reddit
Brought my mother to see her and as an avid metalhead I was blown away by how amazing she was in concert. Brutally honest, the best performance I’ve seen live.
stevemachiner@reddit
Im not a fan of her music but my friend met her in NYC and got her to send us a wedding day message. As someone involved in events tech , her crew do one of the most impressive touring stage shows on the planet , it’s basically Pink doing a full wire performance. For someone 7 years older than me she’s had an amazing career , she is known in the industry for her integrity and openness. 10/10
Criticism_Cricket@reddit
I respect her as an artist and she has a legitimate set of pipes but her music isn’t my cup of tea.
relobasterd@reddit
A try hard who records super generic pop rock music. She’s an athletic version of Kelly Clarkson.
Happiness_Epitome@reddit
I wish she was better looking
GoodKidBrightFuture@reddit
Very pink 👍
Nice_Cantaloupe_2842@reddit
She seems cool. Has a few songs I like but otherwise I’d say her music isn’t my jam.
_RisetoVotesiR_@reddit
Never owned any of it but made some good music that I danced to back in the day, thank you Pink.

USAF_Retired2017@reddit

ISeeYouNoThanks@reddit
Has to be followed up by Whitney Houston I Learned from the best in order to be historically accurate for the Roscoe’s dance floor.
I don’t have vivid memories of everything from back then, but these two songs specifically bring memories of getting shoved out of the way so those queens could get to the dance floor. It was literally the “move. I’m gay.” of its time.
moontiara16@reddit
LOL! Thank you for the music!
My wallet was stolen out of my purse 10 years ago at Hydrate. I was hysterical about the “betrayal” but the strongest memories are the great music and amazing people who raised me up when I felt so down.
Love and miss Chicago. Now I’m just an old overweight mom who reminisces about the good old days. Wishing you happiness and the best fucking moves in the room!

Jolly_Line@reddit
I think you could be right. At first glance looks almost identical toto Rihanna.
ISeeYouNoThanks@reddit
Yes! Yes yes yes. There was a very recent meme that was something like, “this was the first time I heard blackpink” with one of those early pics of how her team tried to style her. It was a super niche joke that not all of us would catch 😂

Why do I need to have a brutally honest opinion about pink?
BryanEtch@reddit
Dude is basically requesting people to mean to Pink. Nobody deserves “brutal honesty” without asking for it.
Emotional_Warthog658@reddit
Loving the vibes in the thread though….
FutureLocksmith9702@reddit
Brutality is in now. We started with civility and politeness, honesty matured into aggressive honesty, brotherly love blossomed into tough love, we circled back to passive-aggression, progressed to political correctness and sarcasm, and now we're in our brutal honesty era. Diogenes put away his lamp. It's the way of the world.

That’s awesome to hear. Whenever I hear they’re a good client, customer, guest, etc. that makes me like them more.
Last-Customer-2005@reddit
I will say (nothing against her she seems cool) that MOST celebrities are really nice to service staff bc they know it gets publicized when they act out. I worked at a restaurant frequented by celebs of all sorts and only encountered 2 who were D Bags (Rapper T.I. and singer Bobby Valentino, the former is just rude and entitled, the latter an absolute pervert). But others were very nice but I knew through friends to not be good ppl in real life.
geekgirlwww@reddit
When she spent her advance from the record company (because dumb kid) she got a job pumping gas. I feel like she had a grounded upbringing
Juco_Dropout@reddit
Is she from Jersey or Oregon?

Bougie gas stations have attendants
No-Hospital559@reddit
This isn't true. I worked in a Manhattan restaurant and many of the celebrities were absolutely awful. A few were regulars and very nice. Ice-T was an absolute blast to be around, very generous and always friendly. Jay-Z, well... Let's just say he was the opposite.
The-Hammer92@reddit
I can imagine Jay-Z being an absolute asshole to anyone he considers lesser. Just empty materialism manifested.
Last-Customer-2005@reddit
I guess we had different experiences. But the main point I'm trying to make is that some of the ones who were absolutely golden in public were truly awful in more private settings. They hid the behaviour to maintain an image.
No-Hospital559@reddit
I agree with this, for a lot of them it's an act.
No-Lavishness1982@reddit
Ok, that’s crazy because I was housekeeping at a hotel and Bobby Valentino stayed there ( basic room, not a suite) and left his autograph in the tip envelope. Never heard about him again until your comment!
Last-Customer-2005@reddit
Loooool he really thinks he is a bigger name than he is. I didn't know who he was either (nor did I care- the location made us get a lot of actual big names often). I was his bartender and he hit on me saying such gross things i refused service. My mama bear manager confronted him to let him know that they'd allow him to finish his meal but I wouldn't be his server anymore due to his behavior, and he said "you know who I am right?" Like sir, you're not a big deal.
ChickenDelight@reddit
If he left no tip and just his autograph, that's kind of a hilarious form of asshole

I love Dame Shirley Bassey’s cover of Get The Party Started…..and that’s all I got 🤷🏼♀️
N_word_generator2005@reddit
I don't like her music, but she seems like she's a "real" person. Not fake, not a diva, like she actually had a customer service job at some point.
This_is_the_Janeway@reddit
Amazing on so many levels. LOVE her.
TheSean_aka__Rh1no@reddit
I was lucky enough to be invited along to her show by my ex (before we were official) and her 12y/o daughter, daughter's first big concert, and it was pretty close, but I think I was only marginally less impressed/blown away than her (daughter) of the quality of the show. Easy top 5 show for me, absolutely had a blast.
Sorry OP, will be no hard knocks from me about P!nk
socialcommentary2000@reddit
I'm the same age as her, roughly. I really wasn't into her music back then, but I will not deny the talent she has, because she's got lots.
Also, that Just Give me a Reason song is one of those cheesy songs that I totally love. Dunno why, but it just works. She gets points for that in my book. And no, I don't usually listen to stuff like that, at all.
Sea2Chi@reddit
Her songs are catchy as hell and she's a blast to see live.
And while I don't know all the real details, it sounds like most of her songs are about her hating, loving, breaking up with, getting back together with or wanting to murder her partner who she's been on and off again with for a few decades. So... maybe not the best personal life, but it makes for good music.
She's not an artist who I would say is my favorite. But my wife and kids love her music and I don't mind when it comes on. Hell at this point I probably know most of the words to her songs.
pardonmyass@reddit
I’ve always preferred her over the other female singers of similar genres. She’s a phenomenal artist.
vulchiegoodness@reddit

Brutally honest? She's fantastic. Love her.
I remember going to a NSync concert once, and she was the opener. I think there was another opener before her, but I don't remember them. Nobody really paid much attention to them. But when she came onstage... She killed it, and my friends and I actually wished we'd seen more of her.

I've always loved Pink from the moment she hit the scene back in the late 90s. Two summers ago I was in the 8th row at her Carnival tour and let me tell you I was blown away. Not only did she come flying into the arena on a trapeze (while singing) but she also sang live and sounded great. She was also a real sweetheart to the crowd. Two thumbs up from me.

JMDeutsch@reddit
One of the absolute worst singers of her contemporaries as evidenced by publicly complaining that her label made her work with Max Martin, literally the most successful pop song writer of all time
Literally wrote her biggest single
Potmelt777@reddit
I dunno, I don't think what generation you are born into makes a difference when it comes to mediocre pop music that used to be overplayed non-stop. This is largely why mainstream music from around 99-01 so was forgettable.
DukeOfMiddlesleeve@reddit
She may be a great singer but there’s a reason you only hear her music in grocery stores and medical waiting rooms and such.

Truth about love is a great album. Besides that good songs here and there.
Scherzkeks@reddit
1) she’s adorable 2) she can sing 3) her music gets super popified and would be better if it wasn’t so over produced to be marketable to the general public, but I don’t think she has as much to do with that part after she’s laid down her vocals
InterBeard@reddit
1 in the Pink. The rest stinks.
ninjakiti@reddit
Goddess tier. I just saw her in concert last year. She's adorable, smart, gorgeous, funny, sweet, and massively talented. Loved watching her fly around and sing. I only wish it was like three hours longer. I'm hoping she comes here again because I'll absolutely go.
PrymalChaos@reddit
my opinion is - go back and check out her first album "Can't Take Me Home" and watch the accompanying video. You would swear that she was a light skinned black woman. Not making any comments on "cultural appropriation" (to be fair her entire image was probabaly cultivated as part of her record deal)
but it just makes me laugh when you see curreent image vs back then.. Also for bonus points go check out some of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch videos. Mark Wahlberg was treading a fine line also..😂

I'll chime in to add my voice to the "love Pink" chorus. She is probably my favorite female pop-star from the early 2000's era, and her music in general is amongst the most enjoyable of the major female pop artists of the last 20 years or so for me.
Also, she seems like a genuinely down-to-earth person. With all of the drama that circles around pop stars, you never heard controversy or drama regarding Pink. In general, I feel like when you DON'T see news headlines about major celebrities, it's because they MOSTLY live normal lives when they're not working, only with, you know, money.
happyhippy27@reddit

You articulated how I've always thought of her so much better than I've ever been able to. I always just expected "more" from the music she put out, in some way. It's good pop music, but with basically none of the edge I would have thought it would have.
js4873@reddit
Thank you for saying that! Yeah and it wasn’t just her. People like Fred Durst too. Like … it was the 90s. Singing about sex isn’t edgy man. She don't wash- according to rodies
rocketwilco@reddit
I don't get the appeal. Seems as manufactured and 'in the system' as could be musically.
xbrianspasmx@reddit
True story, before she was Pink, we had mutual friends in the Philly music scene. She was at a party I was at, and she got very drunk. I don't drink, and friends asked if I could drive her home. During that ride, she mentioned having to go to the bathroom, so I pulled over, and she peed on some random suburban lawn. I dropped her off at her house afterward. She offered a handshake, but I politely declined.
EatLard@reddit
She’s cool and can sing like a MF. Not really my kind of music though.

I think she has a pretty good voice and I don't remember ever hearing anything negative reported about her as a person. I like a few of her older songs and am not familiar with her newer stuff as I'm turning into an old person and don't listen to much new music
cleanhouz@reddit
It's clear she has input on the songs she is willing to sing. She also seems to be pretty authentic for a pop star, but I've been wrong before. I am not a fan of her particular genre of music but I can appreciate her talent and integrity.
ArdenElle24@reddit
Whenever her music is on in my car, it makes me dizzy. Her and her backup singer are in the same pitch but slightly different tone that has an echoing effect.
She has a great voice but just like Christina Aguilera, only a handful of decent songs.

Why would anyone have a "brutally honest" opinion of her? She makes decent pop music, and she loves her kid. It's like having a brutally honest opinion of strawberry yogurt.
Emergency_Status_686@reddit
Generic pop music...super meh to me. But some people like that kind of stuff, actually a lot of people do lol. And that's what makes the world go round!
JNole8787@reddit
I don’t agree with her on a majority of topics, but she seems like a decent person who didn’t let celebrity get to her head.
thezoomies@reddit
I don’t listen to a ton of pop music, even when it’s somewhat rock-inflected like hers. However, my wife is a huge fan so I have heard a ton of her music whether I wanted to or not. As a music fan, I think she’s mid, but I love her attitude and her message, as a father, I’m glad she’s out there because I think she’s a very positive influence. As a musician, I’d rather listen to lady Gaga any day, but I can’t deny that she has a ton of talent and is good at what she does. Her music is just sort of good while being devoid of the little flourishes of cleverness and technicality that make me love music. It’s pretty much pure gold any time she teams up with Eminem though.
Prestigious_Secret61@reddit
Uhm. 50 year old white make. Metal punk and blues as well as all classic rock.
I often sit in my large room with Marshall full stack and crank pink and sing along.
She is real. You can hear the hurt and pain that is music. Expression and getting it the fuck out of you.
As good as 99% of all rock and metal. She truly makes me feel the hurt and makes me feel better after screaming / singing along with her.

1st time I came across her was a music video on MTV, when they still played those, and they had a bunch of guys skateboarding, but since I considered myself a skater I thought she and the rest of them in the video were all posers. Never really got into her after that, but I am very aware of how talented she is and loved by many.

Another down to Earth person and does a lot with various organizations like Human Rights Campaign, Save the Children, etc. She's cool. I don't really listen to her music. She is using her fame for good like Avril Lavigne. 👍👍
She either is or was a UNICEF Ambassador. She's done a lot!

She can sang. She had real life problems she accepts and deals with in her way. Another person making their way and helping others with her music or vibe. She didn’t change music but she didn’t hurt it and helped it along.

HoneyWhiskeyLemonTea@reddit
She's one of the few punk rockers who struck me as being honestly punk rock. With so many female punks, it was either bubblegum punk, or they reinvented themselves over and over. But P!nk? Nah. She's just an unapologetic, badass punk chick living life the way she wants, and doesn't give half a shit what anyone thinks.
Thanks to how real she's always seemed, she was one of my VERY few celebrity crushes over the years, and thanks to the similarity in age, she's probably the only celebrity crush that's survived the past 25 years, since 19yo me first saw 21yo P!nk, round about 2000.
badteach248@reddit
Huge fan. I was in Australia in 2002/2003 "family portrait" was on the radio. In the US I think just the party song. I ended up buying her debut, and really liked it. Also how she acts in public, random statements etc. I tend to like her and her music.
nopersh8me@reddit
I loved that album too. I would listen to it on repeat and sing along in the car. Got to work with her many years later, and she is an exception to the ”don’t meet your idols” rule because she was genuinely kind and supportive.

Bobbie_Sacamano@reddit
Not my type of music but I do have a story. In the late 90’s the MTV Campus Invasion Tour came to my little college town in KY featuring an arena concert with Garbage and Lit. There were events all week but the only one anyone cared about was the day before there was supposed to be a free concert with some band I had never heard of and Pink. The band played but Pink never showed up. While Garbage and Lit won over many young fans at their show Pink just disappointed everyone.
Hour_Balance_7296@reddit
God, Garbage is great. They just put out a new album! Hoping I can catch the tour when they come around.
Bobbie_Sacamano@reddit
Their performance was awesome. I know their first album gets a lot of play but I really loved the follow-up. Shirley is a great performer and the drummer is a great record producer (Nevermind/Siamese Dream) so they always had a great sound. During the show Shirley Manson went off on fans accusing her of selling out for doing a James Bond song. She said that she is from Scotland where Sean Connery was a legend so fuck you!!!! LOL
Hour_Balance_7296@reddit
Lol thats awesome. I live in the middle of nowhere, so every show I go to is a road trip. Seems like every time they've been close, I couldn't go. Like come, how longs it been? Lol. Maybe one of these tours, I'll see em.
Bobbie_Sacamano@reddit
They don’t do them anymore. My college was Murray State in KY. Town population is about 18,0000 and the student enrollment is about 12,000 but half of that is at satellite locations. Actual population that lives on campus is about 6,000. Since Covid the arena pretty much stopped having any concerts because they never sold enough tickets. Bob Dylan played here and it was less than half full and the capacity is 8,000.

She not only has a fantastic voice, she makes it look easy.
I remember someone attempting a P!nk song on one of the competition shows and one of the judges mentioning how hard it is to sing a P!nk song well because she makes difficult vocals look like a walk in the park.
She's one of the few current artists that I'd love to see in concert.

sleeperninja@reddit
I disliked her when she first started as a rap artist, and respected her position when she admitted to only doing it as an attempt to “break out” of a production cycle. I don’t know how accurate my recollection of that is, because I’m not that deep into the story, for sure.
That being said, she’s got a great voice, soul, and conviction in her storytelling.
“Who knew”, in particular, is like a punch in the gut about those we lost along the way.
jackfaire@reddit

strongbob25@reddit

johnnagethebrave@reddit
I’ll drag P!nk haha Her music feels like she wanted to create a genre of lame mum-pop-punk. Her whole “attitude” thing seems really performative and clunky. It’s like if A corporation tried to make Patti Smith. This is probably the meanest thing I’ve ever written and I’m sure P!nk is an ok person. Her music and whole schtick just makes me cringe though.
AverageHeathen@reddit
I was a teen when her first album came out, and while I wasn’t a pop girlie, I liked her best of all the pop girlies. I love her a lot and I get her a lot but also as I look at her career in the early 2000s and we were both in our 20s there’s a lot of internalized misogyny to unpack there, for both of us. A lot of I’m Not Like The Other Girls™️ energy that ultimately diminishes all of us because it’s based in assumptions and stereotypes. I hope she’s evolved and become more of a girls’ girl now. As in: women supporting each other regardless of our differences, instead of tearing each other down.

Never liked her or her music
levioh_snap@reddit
Guess I’m one of the few non-fans. Sure she can sing, but she’s a total pick-me “I’m not like the other girls” type, and she’s used mockery of other women in the music industry to further her own career.
Pink Has A Long History Of Belittling Women Because She’s “Not Like Other Girls” And People Are Now Calling Her Out For Ithttps://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/stephaniesoteriou/pink-called-out-history-belittling-women

I went to middle school and high school with her.. She’s a full blown poser CUNT! 💯
rcbjr@reddit
Saw her at the United Center about 6 years ago, she was amazing. Seems like a decent human too. About all I can ask.

The weakest of the Lady Marmalade video

Agreed! lil kim was weak too
Haemwich@reddit
Mya > Christina > Kim > Pink
Enough-Pickle-8542@reddit
Video worked for Mya and Christina but not pink or Kim.
Don’t know why they were trying so hard to market her as a hot chick, she was very average
FalseVeterinarian881@reddit
Which should typically say something in and of itself…except I disagree with your assessment. 🤣😂
sorrymizzjackson@reddit
She does aerials while singing her ass off. Impressed.

Not a personal fan of the music but she's talented. Plenty of musicians whom I do not personally care for that particular type of music but can respect their music and talent at the same time if that makes sense.
stataryus@reddit
I LOVE her voice!
I wish she did less stuff about relationships and more stuff about humanity, underdogs, power of people, stuff like that.
She has some of that but not enough! 😄
Quick_like_a_Bunny@reddit
Don’t like her, cringe in a pick-me way
Historical-Client-78@reddit
Absolutely love Pink. I’ve seen her three times in concert!
silverwarbler@reddit
I absolutely adore her. She's real and realistic. She doesn't sugar coat shit.
NobleMofoKing@reddit
Thought she was black when I heard her first song on the radio.
The video premiered on BET, and I was like 🫢 she's white?
I'm not really into her music but like her voice.
T1sofun@reddit
I distinctly remember reading an article in the Montreal Gazette about how she was being discriminated against as a light-skinned black woman (that neither black audiences nor white ones were allowing her to become uber successful because “she didn’t belong”). It was back before simply Googling her ethnicity would have been a thing. That journalist was so wrong.
Cultural-Basil-3563@reddit
read somewhere that she got the nickname Pink when she used to regularly sing at like a Black-majority bar and they would call her that affectionately
TenaciousZBridedog@reddit
https://www.thelist.com/330859/this-is-how-pink-got-her-stage-name/
It's a reference to a Tarantino movie.
Ninja-Panda86@reddit
It's a combo of things
Cultural-Basil-3563@reddit
well the article says it's an existing childhood nickname she already had that she further attached to because of res dogs. her wikipedia says she actually got it at the age of 14 playing clubs in philly...
TenaciousZBridedog@reddit
Fair enough. I hadn't connected the dots
Briguy24@reddit
She showed a black friend her vagina and he said ‘it’s pink!’ Is what I read.

rohm418@reddit
I had a crush on her when she first came out and was embarrassed about it for some reason.
Enough-Pickle-8542@reddit
Probably because the consensus among men was that she’s average looking.
burtonboy1234@reddit
She opened up for Lenny Kravitz once and hearing her live was amazing!

As a 77' Xennial metal head I could take or leave her music. What little I've seen of her outside the stage, I'd love to kill a bottle of tequila with her and watch the fireworks. She seems pretty cool.

mybadalternate@reddit
I really liked the song Feel Good Time on one of the Charlie’s Angels soundtracks…
Turns out Beck wrote it, which makes a lot of sense when you listen to it.
MapleHamwich@reddit
She's great. Not my usual taste in music. Not my usual taste in style or culture. But her music usually has an upbeat positive message and she's a relatively wholesome person/personal life. I dig her.
limelight022@reddit
That album she insisted on using a live band was really great. I really wish she would've kept that sound.
avantgardeaclue@reddit
I like that she does that acrobatic bit so that everyone gets a front row spot
virtualwaster@reddit
One of the best to do it. You want simple pop? P!nk, You want rock? P!nk. There's not really a lot she can't do, and she also puts on one hell of a live show too.
platypus_farmer42@reddit
My ex wife used to listen to her a lot, I’m not a big fan of pop but she’s got some catchy songs and can definitely hold her own as a vocalist, unlike a lot of more modern singers
ButitsaDryCold@reddit
I love her even more than I did when I was younger. She’s a beautiful and fierce woman, who is unapologetically herself. I hate that she has had a hard time in the spotlight due to not being a fragile feminine look. Love her music and her vulnerability about some of her steuggles. She’s a great role model.
mindsunwound@reddit
Seems Legit, never got into her stuff, no real reason ..
AssclownJericho@reddit

StickyMcdoodle@reddit
My Playlist is too full of Neil Diamond and Gordon Lightfoot to really have much of an opinion on her music styling. However, there was moment there where if a sog came on the radio that I thought "Eh, for pop princess music, this is actually pretty great!", when I looked it up, it was always her. Every time.
I think she's pretty badass.
bazinga675@reddit
Her music isn’t for me, but she seems like a genuinely good, down to earth person who is extremely talented and from what I hear, puts on a fantastic show.
Ninja-Panda86@reddit
She's my favorite singer through and through. She has an amazing voice, but more than that, she tells authentic stories through her songs. She speaks to experiences I've also had growing up, and at times it feels we grew up kind of together, learning about the world, then learning about love, and then learning about family and loss together. I've watched tons of interviews with her, and her band, and she's a sweet, humble person who loves the people she works with. She's not stuck up, or full of shit. And if none of this was enough, she doesn't just sing and put on fancy outfits at her shows. Oh no - She gets in ribbons and does full on aerial dances for the audience. So you get this half-trapeze act of her swinging in the air, above jets of fire, while singing!!! (I mean, I can barely walk and chew bubble gum).
So yeah. She's a tremendous artist and I love her.
TheVelcroStrap@reddit
Seems like a good person, I am not so into her music, but she has my support.
BlueProcess@reddit
I really like her and despite being a guy find a kit her music relatable. She is one of the few people that started out pop and wrote about real things.
BlacksmithThink9494@reddit
That hairstyle was terrible.
cyberllama@reddit
Great voice, liked her when she first came out and was more R&B and then she went off down that angry girl anthem route and I've had no interest in her since.
Anaxamenes@reddit
I like Pink. She’s funny and a bit feisty at times. I don’t think her music pushes boundaries but I also think it doesn’t need to. It’s just fun and that’s all it needs to be.
BlackEngineEarings@reddit

MachFreeman@reddit
Her acrobatics in particular are amazing. She was doing stuff at 35 that I couldn’t imagine doing at 22
BoltMyBackToHappy@reddit
Check out her sessions cover of "Me & Bobby McGee". She has it but there was like No Doubt, Cranberries, Bjork, Britney, and others to compete with in the girl singer world back then.
Twotricx@reddit
I never got what kind of music is she representing. She is kind of dressing like mix of punk and hip hop. But her music is anything but...

lucidguppy@reddit

raisedbytelevisions@reddit
Amazing vocal capabilities, but not necessarily my style. Much love to those chops though
jenniferlee562@reddit
She's my favorite.
des1gnbot@reddit
A few very catchy songs but not someone where I need to listen to every song on the album. I appreciate her general presence in pop culture as a woman who does not aspire to be the least bit girly.
Gogo83770@reddit
She also seems like a caring mom. Something I bet she is extra aware of because of her own trouble with her parents. I remember an interview where her oldest didn't want to be on the tour bus again that year, and although Pink was going to miss her dearly, she ultimately let her daughter decide what was best for her. When I was a child, I was raised in a very authoritarian household. I wasn't allowed much agency over anything. I was forced into a lot of things that 'would be good for me' look good on a college application, etc. So, from what I can tell, I admire her parenting, and she is an amazing artist.
burritosandbooze@reddit
My close friend was in a pregnancy group with Pink and nobody realized it was her until they were midway through their terms hahaha, she said she usually wore a sweatshirt with the hood up and introduced herself as Alecia.
laffydaffy24@reddit
Aww that’s somehow sweet. I would hate to be famous and have to worry about being recognized at random stuff like this.
drkangeldaria@reddit
She's a fantastic performer, person and one of the few artists I would be legit sad to find out was a really an asshole.
Nice-Neighborhood975@reddit
Of all the girl pop musicians of that era, she is by far my favorite. Always seems very authentic and not a curated persona like the rest.
purplecrayonadventur@reddit
Sometimes I hear a new song and get her confused with Kelly Clarkson. Both powerful singers with big voices
angry_eccentric@reddit
i like her and always have. she is very outspoken about her beliefs and doesn't give a fuck if people don't like her. she was definitely one of the more outspoken non-Black celebs during the BLM movement.
kevocontent@reddit
I think you’re a lazy karma farmer amid a sea of lazy karma farmings. I might need a break from Reddit.
theygotsquid@reddit
The most amazing thing about her is that an artist who is literally named after the color of a woman’s vagina has been able to sell out arenas and drop consistent massive radio hits for 25 years without anyone clutching their pearls.
laffydaffy24@reddit
She is a fantastic performer and singer. So much talent. Her music is also tons of fun. Easily my favorite artist in her genre.
Sirnando138@reddit
I worked for a radio station in Boston 25 years ago when she was doing promo shows before her first record came out and we were stuck in a small room for like an hour. Just the two of us. I had no idea who she was but she was a total gem. We just shot the shit for the hour while we were both waiting to be told what to do by our respective managers. I ran into her like 10 years later, when she was super insane famous, and it was like we were still in the room. I haven’t seen her or talked to her in a good while, but I hope she is still a good shit.
To contrast that, the year prior, I was in a similar situation with Britney Spears when she was doing promo shows before her first record. She was a cunt.

about 25 years ago I got chased by a man (at a religious convention) screaming "Pink! Pink! Pink!" and when I finally turned to look at what was going on and I was like no wrong person when I realized he meant me he got pretty pissed off and was like "I know it's you, Pink! Why won't you admit it?!" and I (being an awkward teenager that didn't feel particularly welcomed at this religious convention) basically tried to slither away without anyone noticing
I think I was getting into my mom's beat up old Subaru, I really don't know why he thought I was P!nk, maybe similar face structure but I was literally a teenaged child at the time and she would have been in her early 20's but I did have a pixie cut🤷🏼

Skeknir@reddit
I didn't pay much attention to pop, so didn't really listen to her. Then she was at a festival in Ireland one year and I wanted to see the act after her, decided I'd watch her while I waited.
It was absolutely pouring rain. She spent most of her set standing out at the front of the stage, with the crowd, in a white vest. Everyone else had stayed way back under the half-roof thing over the stage. She was really engaged with the crowd, chatting, copying their dance moves, just absolutely raising the energy of thousands of tired and soaked young people with pure charisma.
I quickly realised that she was:
A) incredibly talented with some genuinely good tunes
B) pretty cool, having a bunch of fun with everyone in the wet and the muck
C) unnecessarily attractive to the point everyone else looked worse around her
