Anyone joining me for a bout of apocalyptic hayfever this year?
It's been so bad. Im on three antihistamines a day, last year nothing.

Blessed rain !!!

Wind and rain also shakes the pollen about. Argh! Unfortunately there isn't anything I can do other than get through it.

What do you guys take for this that works? I took Allevia 120mg but it doesn’t do it, I can’t sleep at night :(
jasoncreation@reddit
Have you looked at the Kenalog jab? Saves me every year.
SolidAcanthisitta278@reddit
I'm gutted about this it's the only thing that worked!!
noobzealot01@reddit
how can you get one prescribed?
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
No the NHS banned it.
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
Yer that's a bit of a nuclear option, I'd rather have bad hayfever for a few weeks than the jab given it's potential side effects in the future...though I understand they are only a problem if you overuse the jab and I'd be talking of perhaps a single one a year.
The NHS banned it for a reason. But one of those was cost.

Me, 2 weeks ago was horrible, ever had it so severe. The rain took a lot of polen from the air but is again at it. It sucks because I love to do activities outdoors.

In May I was cycling 2 hours a day. Right now I'm zombied out on antihistamines and haven't done a thing.
oalfonso@reddit
I still go cycling because if I don’t do exercise I go mad with the energy. But going to Aspley Guise forests last Saturday was a ver bad idea.
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
I'm having to have a break. I generally go around the nature reserve through stony Stratford all around there, this was like mid May! Seems like a lifetime ago.
I assume this allergy doesn't start until you get triggered..so if you did not go to the woods it's possible you'd not have been triggered. Or maybe it's impossible and it's just a high pollen year, which is what the met office is saying.
stuie382@reddit
I've always had awful hay fever. Like 180mg fexofenadine and a generic nasal spray just about made life tolerable. Early this year I started taking mometasone nasal spray for something else, and I've basically had no hay fever so far this year. I've had 2 non consecutive days where I've taken a fexofenadine but otherwise been normal.
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
Isn't that insane. I had nothing then suddenly grade 10. Perhaps you haven't been triggered yet. Hopefully won't be.
awrgho@reddit
The last 2 days were pretty bad for me, but before that it was pretty chill so far. Not as bad as last year yet. But I have been taking the beconase spray. Got to start in march for it to be of any use. But it feels like it’s gonna get worse.
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
That's where I went wrong. Should have started in march. I had no symptoms then it suddenly went to ten, literally going from nothing to having to lay down.
I presume we're all slightly allergic to different pollens so get hit at different times.
Zeratul_Artanis@reddit
Yea its awful.
I've been upto Northumberland and Newcastle twice in May and both times my hay-fever just vanished only to return immediately as I got closer to MK.
majorpickle01@reddit
My hayfever is usually so light I don't really say I have hayfever, this year has been diabolical.
I feel like a dogs arse this morning.
My sister and friend who both have heavy hayfever have said they think it's an ok year lol
MrsD12345@reddit
Yup. It’s hit later than I usually get it, so the fucker lulled me into a false sense of security. Need to stock up on more eye drops too.
NoisyScrubBirb@reddit
I mean last year was relatively wet compared to now so I assume the pollen wasn't dispersing as far as it is this year with it being very dry
mkm118@reddit
Last year not so bad, this year my eyes are so much worse. I'd put it down to picking up smoking again, but yeah, if the pollen counts is worse, then that would also explain it.
ExcitingColt552@reddit
I've been sneezing like a goodun. Was pretty average the last few years
book-devourer92@reddit
Mine is insane, I thought I was coming down with the flu for the last week but it’s stayed at the same level so I can only think it’s hayfever! I take 120mg fexofenadine all year round and before the last 2 weeks I’ve been absolutely fine!
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
Same here. Last week or so has been so insane I've reported to asking people on forums!
It's reassuring to know we are all allergic to the same thing at the same time.
nasted@reddit
Sure it’s not an allergy to something else too? Like dust, cleaning products, pets or roundabouts?
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
Trees my friend.
Too many roundabouts just make me car sick.
nasted@reddit
Birch?
But if there’s such a significant from year to year, it’s worth considering if you’re being exposed to a new substance or that you’ve developed an allergy to something you’d previously been fine with. The immune system can just decide to be allergic to something just to screw you over.
oalfonso@reddit
This year is worse because as it is not raining the polen stays in the air for a long time.
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
I've no idea. Posting here someone might know more than me..
Something that starts in may and peaks now, or the past week or so.
ratsrulehell@reddit
I'm the opposite. I normally have awful hayfever. This year...nothing yet
davaydavaydavay@reddit
Sneezing fits as soon as I stepped out of the house 🤧
cooperca45@reddit
Last week or two absolutely dreadful. Normally suffer but not this bad!
Well_lit_misery@reddit
Yep! I'd normally describe my hayfever as "mildly irritating", but these last few days it's definitely been upgraded several notches to "really quite annoying"
Legorooj@reddit
What type of antihistamine are you using?
RealisticAd3095@reddit (OP)
Fexofenadine and nasal spray.
Though I'm breaking the pill in half might have to up it.
Also unsure if they work when you take them or you need to keep taking them as it builds up.
Legorooj@reddit
Hmm, I started using fexofenadine last year when the cheap ones failed, I was taking 240mg a day (morning + evening) which is admittedly above what they recommend.
Anyways I'd recommend talking to a pharmacist or something, they might be able to prescribe you something stronger which you can't get over the counter.
