Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 7900 XT Build for 1440p — Thoughts and Any Advice or Insights Welcome!

Hey everyone!
I lost my PS5 due to a power surge. Always wanted to build a PC, but now it’s finally happening, haha.
I’ve finalized my gaming PC build and want to confirm if it’s solid for native 1440p gaming at 100+ FPS.
Specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: ASUS TUF AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- RAM: G.SKILL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 Flare X5
- Storage: Western Digital Black SN850X 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
- PSU: MSI MAG A750GL 750W 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular
- CPU Cooler: DEEPCOOL AK620 Air Cooler
- Case: NZXT H5 Flow
- Monitor: BenQ EX271Q 27” QHD IPS 165Hz, HDR10
What I’m aiming for:
- Smooth 1440p gaming at 100+ FPS (mostly AAA and competitive titles)
Questions for you all:
- Will this build work for me? I’m planning to play The Finals, Outlast Trials, F1, COD, Cyberpunk, and stuff like that.
- Are there any obvious bottlenecks or parts I should reconsider?
- Is there anywhere I can save money so I can invest in the 7900X3D CPU?
- My monitor isn’t finalized yet, so I’d appreciate any insights!

The 7900XT is hard to recommend unless it's significantly cheaper than the 5070ti, 9070, and 9070XT. The feature deficit is pretty substantial.
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
its not significantly cheaper, but yes, I have decided to go with the 9070xt now

Thanks.

Will go through the links, thanks.
Regarding storage, yeah will most probobly upgrade it later.

The SN850X is pretty expensive and you really wouldn't notice any benefit from that extra cost while using your system, so I would recommend getting something else instead. Don't know what's available in your region, but some good budget drives would be Silicon Power UD90, Teamgroup MP44Q/L, WD SN580, Kioxia Exceria Plus G3.

For gaming 7800X3D is better than 7900X3D.
What's the price of 7900XT in your market? 9070XT or 5070Ti will be strickly better than it, so if they are comparable in price - I would reconsider.
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
7900XT is 724 USD
9070XT is 864 USD
5070TI is 1160 USD
GARGEAN@reddit
Oof. All of those prices are quite bad tbh. But I would probably stick to 9070XT with that price choice.

And one more thing, does GPU companies really matter ? Because ASROCk is significantly cheaper than ASUS.
Stargate_1@reddit
no, only if you are into extreme overclocking does the brand matter, as some will have better BIOSes than others (For example, there are 7900XTXs out there that can draw twice as much power as a normal one)
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
Okay, because it’s 130 US cheaper than the ASUS one. I was under the impression that the cheaper ones might have some reliability issues, be louder and get hotter as well.
Stargate_1@reddit
Not really, noise will vary by model and more expensive doesn't automatically mean quieter.
The only major difference would be 2 vs 3 fans, you want 3 fans ideally

Forget the 7900 XT, go for a RX 9070 or 9070 XT. Similar price, better RT performance, but most importantly, you'll have access to a way better upscaler.
Not sure why you'd like to get the 7900X3D. It'll perform a bit worse in games, it may only worth if if you're doing core-heavy workloads. For gaming, forget it, the 7800X3D is better - or go all out with the 9800X3D.
While the 750W PSU is plenty enough for this config, I'd rather go with an 850, just to have some more for future upgrades. A850GL, or the FSP Vita GM 850 can also be a good option.
If you want to save some money, you can look for a cheaper mobo, like the B6650 Eagle/Gaming X (AX) or B650 Gaming Plus WiFi. A cheaper SSD is also an option, something like the WD Blue SN580 is perfectly fine for gaming and other basic stuff. Take a look the Peerless Assassin 120 SE, it isn't as fancy as the AK620, but it performs on par and usually a bit cheaper. Lastly, there are cheaper alternatives for the case too, like the Montech Air 903 Max, which also comes with 4 pre-installed fans and an A-RGB/Fan HUB.

9070xt is 140 USD more but sure, I can extend that as I will be downgrading the mobo.
Lol 9800x3d would be the dream but the budget is capped at 1900 USD.
Okay, will look into that.
The case, it’s on sale rn so it’s not that expensive.
Mr_Jesus17@reddit
If it's considerably cheaper, you can go with the RX 9070 (non XT), since it's only \~10% slower than the XT, still in the same ballpark as the 7900 XT.

Yes, but can improve
GPU, avoid 7900XT, try to get 9070 or 9070XT based on price in your region. Lack of FSR4 & abysmal RT performance are major cons of 7900XT.
Mobo can be downgraded a bit, something like Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX is a good value generally, but no idea about your region. 7800X3D is better for gaming vs 7900X3D. For purely gaming, R5 7600 + 9070XT will easily outperform even 9800X3D + 7900XT in most games. Hardware Canucks has a video on gaming CPU scaling. Maybe case & SSD can be a bit cheaper as well but won't save much here.
BenQ monitors are always overpriced in my experience, try to look for alternatives, check LG, Acer, Samsung, maybe even Gigabyte.
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
Alright, will definitely downgrade the mobo then. Benq is similarly priced here and It has better brightness when the other are at 250 nits. And regarding gpu, will go for the 9070xt
tybuzz@reddit
Depending on price, a 5070ti or 9070 XT may be a better choice for the GPU. They may be slightly more expensive, but have noticeably better performance and better frame generation with DLSS 4.0 or FSR 4.
I would recommend a 2 tb drive. Modern games and Windows 11 take up lots of space.
The 7900X3D isn't worth buying over a 7800X3D. It's not going to have any better gaming performance. It's only worth it if you do productivity tasks that benefit from more cores.
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
5070ti is out or my budget but 9070xt, I can go for it. But then, would have to drop the storage upgrade. Will think about. Thank you
tybuzz@reddit
9070 XT is definitely better than a 7900 XT, so get that for sure.
aztracker1@reddit
It should work very well... I would suggest more storage and ram if you can make it fit in your budget. With 1tb of storage, you'll likely be uninstalling/reinstalling more than a couple of newer AAA titles. The RAM is less an issue for strictly gaming though. That said, with so many apps being browser based, going to 64gb (or even 48gb) won't hurt.
Angrydude_27@reddit (OP)
Yeah, will definitely do that in the future along with storage. thanks
