Bo-vice@reddit
was just in the market for a bcg for my wife's build; she will love the racoon. In for one.
RAMIREZBURGERTOWN@reddit
u/KAKindustry next time you guys have blems could you laser engrave on the side of the BCG so everyone can see my cute blem animal at the range?
Irishlion76@reddit
why this over a $80 microbest?
CallsignFlorida@reddit
Reddit favored
Toasted_Potooooooo@reddit
That'll change in a week. It used to be BCM, then maybe toolcraft, at one microbest, and I'm pretty sure sionics was in there. And now it's KAK.
The almighty aero upper with BCM lower barely gets mentioned anymore lol
princeoinkins@reddit
how about aero upper and lower to match, and BCM BCG?
Mightknowitall@reddit
I think you have that last one flipped… the “Reddit Special” is Aero lower & BCM upper.
Toasted_Potooooooo@reddit
Yessir I think I did. I'll leave it though lol
alkemmist@reddit
Whatever happened to toolcraft being the meta? I might just be old though
indiglowaves@reddit
Toolcraft was found to have helped Ultron with parts when he tried to rise against the Avengers. They lost popularity after that.
FalloutRip@reddit
Ultron really only decided that humanity needed eradication after he connected to the internet, and I have a hard time faulting him for that tbh.
ANarwhalApart@reddit
For this one? They put little animals on their BLEMs and the people in this sub flip out over it.
KAK also does a downvented one that Reddit loves because it’s supposed to help with gas deflection in suppressed shooting, but there’s been testing done that doubts that. It also dirties up your lower parts (giggity) and mag.
KAK does do high quality BCGs though. They just have a few gimmick-y sort of things that Reddit falls on its face for for hivemind stuff to go along with it. I wouldn’t pay any extra for this one, because this particular one isn’t really special, but their other phosphate or chrome or other ones are certainly well regarded.
Bearloom@reddit
As I said last time.
Pro: fat raccoon
Cons: nitride finish, non-C158 bolt
prmoore11@reddit
Nowhere on the page does it say it’s nitride. Nor does it sort by nitride. This is probably a phosphate non chrome lined.
LORDIGBICK@reddit
Oof that’s gonna be a rough ride for them gas rings
Distribution_Creepy@reddit
In the video on the page he says it is a full nitride BCG
ChiefTitan808@reddit (OP)
school me on the pros and cons brother
GuyButtersnapsJr@reddit
Gas inefficiency.
Most carriers are machined expecting an inner hard chrome lining. Nitrided carriers omit this, leaving a looser fit around the bolt.
9310 steel requires a precise treatment process, which is easy to get wrong. Even when done right, nitriding can interfere with it, and nitriding also makes steel more brittle in general. When the gas key is staked, micro fissures can be inflicted, which can bleed a little gas. Those tiny cracks may also grow over time.
Most of the time, the BCG will run fine. A malfunction will likely only occur when the rifle is run really hard or becomes extremely dirty. In harsh conditions, there may not be enough gas to cycle the bolt.
Mapleleafs791@reddit
Is this actually true for not shit OEMs? Like it makes perfect sense and im a SOTAR simp so i've watched "that video" and all the physical/autopsies, so I generally agree... however, it's not like there are ZERO companies that account for the correct dimensions for a surface diffusion treatment vs an additive lining treatment like chrome. JP nitrides their BCGs (and also uses 9310), and I am not trying to compare them and say this KAK blem is the same as a JP BGC, but that kind of attitude is on the one hand warranted, but also is handwavey.
To be clear, I agree with your sentiment (and im not trying to be a pedantic bitch either lol), if it is not done right, problems, but if it is done right 9310 is objectivly better, but if not done right... nuff said. Just thinking out loud... online.
Having said that, I did buy a nitrided BCG for the first time last week and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit hesitant and bummed I couldnt get it in chrome/DCL/NP3 lol (K-Spec Blem). And no disagreement on your other points.
GuyButtersnapsJr@reddit
I'm no expert in any way. I'm just repeating stuff I've heard/read.
You are correct in naming JP as one of the companies that take the time to get the right dimensions and treat the 9310 properly. However, they are definitely in the minority. u/NetChemica once wrote:
Rather than roll the dice, I just choose a phosphate 158 if I need a budget BCG.
Mapleleafs791@reddit
Yea i feel that. No arguments there.
onlybanana@reddit
Pros - Cheap, lulz
Cons - No one wants to see your KAK on the gram
GrassMoney@reddit
But they do want to see a gram on your kak
superkuper@reddit
I prefer nitride to phosphate, but chrome is better still.
C158 steel bolts are the mil spec and slightly more durable expensive, but 9310 bolts from a reputable manufacturer like KAK are perfectly adequate for 95% of users.
dailyherold@reddit
As my first bcg on first build, still a decent starting point?
Bearloom@reddit
It should still be fine, yeah. It's just not the finish and material that a lot of people on this sub normally go for.
mcleodq@reddit
This or $30 more for Toolcraft NiB with c158 bolt?
GrassMoney@reddit
Do you want this or a NiB with c158 bolt?
mcleodq@reddit
Are you retarded or am I? I don’t have any experience with either so asking for advice from other people. But fuck me right now
GrassMoney@reddit
oh ok, my bad, i thought you were asking which was the better deal
rollindeep3@reddit
Lmfao right
TheKancerousKid@reddit
Neither lol. If you watch the school of the American rifleman on YouTube he just recently did a pro and con of all the bolt carrier group coatings. Phosphate and chrome and his favorite if I remember right. The other coatings are fine if done correctly but my interpretation of his video was the majority of companies out there can’t do them properly so they have wear in weird spot that can cause inefficiency in the gun. The gun will still run but it won’t be as smooth and parts will fail earlier.
Bearloom@reddit
If they're made right a 9310 bolt isn't going to be substantially different from C158, but NiB will always be a solution in search of a problem.
Loud_Dumps@reddit
Because you don’t want that.
Nib is the cheap, shitty knock off of true chrome
eatxanz@reddit
Can anyone recommend a full auto bcg good to run suppressed aswell that doesnt break the bank?
PoseidonWave_@reddit
Whats my best mid tier BCG around $130 that would be good to have a few spares of for future builds? I like dropping DD or BCM in but last I was looking they were like $200 new
