Future TGT hosts review M5 wagon on throttle house

Throttle house reviews the new M5 wagon. Thomas and James have recently been announced to be 2 out the 3 new hosts of the grand tour
Jazzlike_Resident_26@reddit
These two are not the two host im worried about
aaaaaaaa1273@reddit
From the little I’ve seen of him outside of his whole train spotting persona, he knows enough about cars and seems pretty likeable, so I’m not too worried.
DinoRoman@reddit
He’s absolutely meant to be May
Ok_Poetry_1650@reddit
I’m very excited about the 3rd guy, I can’t remember his name but I know he likes trains. Always loved when his content would pop up for me. He definitely had a good personality
Ok-Equipment8303@reddit
His name is Luke but he has a rather pretentious pseudonym of Francis Beuorgoet
ripped_andsweet@reddit
he was apparently training to be an astronaut, wonder if that’ll be a part of the show. going to space is quite a bit of a grand tour💀
Awkward_Chard_5025@reddit
Send him off for the real grand tour
dead_fritz@reddit
They'll do it Fast and Furious style but British. So they'll put him in an Austin Allegro strapped to a rocket.
jocax188723@reddit
Reliant Shuttle 2.0
thedarkjack@reddit
Interesting because Francis is the one I am not worried about.
More worried about the dynamics
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
I would agree but there were some who'd never even knew throttle house existed. So, figured to give those a glimpse.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I just started watching this today because I wanted to get to know these hosts a little. They're not bad, they know their shit and they have chemistry...but I'm hoping they develop a little bit more on screen personality while working on Grand Tour because they're a bit boring based on having just seen this one video. They lack the natural wit of James, Jeremy, and hammond, but maybe it'll come with time.
kingoflint282@reddit
Definitely watch more of their videos. This one is fine but doesn’t show the best of TH
WySLatestWit@reddit
I'm watching their 1,000 miles Across The Desert video, someone here linked it, and it's a much, much better example of their work I think. I can absolutely see how the show could work with these two, that desert "special" feels like it was practically an audition for Grand Tour.
Bearlodge@reddit
I remember watching it when it came out and thinking it was basically TGT but on a YouTube sponsor budget. There was plenty of car content, but also lots of humor and even some suspense and drama. I'm really excited to see what these guys can do with a fat check from Amazon behind them.
Last-Performance-435@reddit
I'm slightly concerned about that part, actually.
I hope they don't lose their goofy personalities in it all. James especially I'm concerned may be a little more susceptible to it as he's less of a technical car but and more of a personality and business end guy.
That's a pretty minor concern, but it's definitely there.
Worst case if the 3rd guy doesn't work out, they get someone like Jason Camissa to join them.
Chewzer@reddit
Check out their AE86 vs GTI Road to Enlightenment special, it's much more in line with how TG and TGT road trip specials were. I don't know how the train guy is going to fit into this though. Either way, looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS-4xxO7jxM&t=2166s
WySLatestWit@reddit
Train guy feels like a weird addition. I don't...really understand why they're doing that. Feels like a way too conscious attempt to recreate that James May "weird one" of the group, and I don't know how that's going to fit.
Thanks for the video recommend, I'll take a look at that a little later today! I'm keen to get to know these folks a little before the new version of the show starts.
Bar50cal@reddit
He did some videos with Chris Harris. In one they chase a train in a CLK black and Francis was commenting on how there were fewer than 100 made. Its not obvious from his content but the few times cars come up he seems much more knowledgeable than your average person on them
WySLatestWit@reddit
I'll have to look for those videos, I'm watching Throttle House now and trying to familiarize myself. I feel like I could like those two, so if I can get into the trainspotting guy this could just work out after all...
Last-Performance-435@reddit
Check out the Desert Roadtrip in the GTI and AE86. That's probably their best bit.
They also have the extra throttle house channel which is just shorter vids and more about the cars.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I did actually check the Desert Roadtrip videos, I liked those quite a bit. Those videos are probably a better indication of what the Throttle House crew can do with The Grand Tour production and structure. I still think they're a little bland and will need to get a bit more animated to make a new version of The Grand Tour actually work, but I'm optimistic they can do well.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Check out more. Hard to really judge them overall based on this one video. I think they will do well as throttle house is fun. They've collaborated with Chris Harris on a few episodes and even Hammond made an appearance in an episode
Myles_Spear@reddit
It won’t be the same without Clarkson, Hammond, and May; but these two show some promise at least. 🤷♂️
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Exactly correct. Throttle house guys are fun to watch. I'm not going into this long for a replacement for the trio.... Even though comparison is inevitable for some.
7ar5un@reddit
I think this is one of the most underrated sentiments regarding all of the "tgt" posts.
Ok-Equipment8303@reddit
I suppose I feel it would be better if Amazon gave them their own show that was more directly linked to the Throttle House brand instead of bringing TH into TGT.
It feels like a lot of what too many companies do these days where what they want to do is make a new thing, but they're terrified not to have an existing IP attached to it.
XSC@reddit
These two are closest thing out there to the old top gear.
ptrj96@reddit
Yeah it will almost certainly be very different. I’ve watched the trio for as long as I can remember and they were what made the shows good, I’ve been a fan of throttle house for a long time and it’s been awesome to see them grow as they got more of a following and therefore a larger budget for projects so I think the thing I am most excited is to see where they go with Amazon kind of budgets for their projects
Washout81@reddit
I think it's going to work. And has the potential to work quite well. Established car guys, who are also friends. While that wasn't the original format for Top Gear (the trip only knew each other professionally), by the time Top Gear was very popular, you could tell they were friends.
I'm looking forward to it. I think they casted this very well.
Do we know if they're going back to a show format? Or just sticking with specials. I'd love to see some Top Gear/Grand Tour style car reviews again.
svenskhet@reddit
Nope
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Nope you've never watched them before?
JustAName-Taken@reddit
These 2, and Jason Cammisa, are my current go-to cartubers. I'm also surprised that they're gonna be in the new TGT. And for those who complained that they have no chemistry as much as the trios, I'd suggest watching them on Extra Throttle House Couch chat.
Also, I bet Richard gave his blessings to them because they do get along, if not then why would DriveTribe invite them again?
Parking_Hearing3594@reddit
I want this car so bad. Fuuuuck gonna have to really save up.
Noobtber@reddit
Why? The previous Gen M5 is simpler and lighter, while retaining a much better ride and all the amazing v8 noises you'd expect from an M car.
I don't see what's appealing about this current generation of M5.
O_Canada_eh@reddit
As a biased Ontarian, I approve! :D
Watched these two a few times and there is some promise. Will have to watch some more Throttle House to form a better opinion.
Was unsure about Francis until I watched his video "Black 5 and Drive - Chasing 44871 with Chris Harris". The guy has passion for what he does. He actually got Chris Harris into the thrill of chasing down that steam train, as he did me. Wouldn't mind giving him a chance.
If all is as reported by The Sun, the proof will be in the pudding when the 3 of them combine on one show.
Here's hoping!
On the plus side, no Americans, who have faired rather poorly with the chances proffered them.
Professional_Bee1278@reddit
They've got beards...so I don't trust them.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
S'ok Hammond does.
sioux612@reddit
Just getting ahead of the G90 m5 hate:
Show me a SINGLE vehicle that checks the marks that the m5 does for its buyers. No, not the unwashed masses on reddit who hate its looks and think that it feels overweight in forza, the actual people who bought one. I'll be one of those soon, and if anybody can tell me a vehicle that isn't the m5 that checks the mark, please let me know
Relevant points for me buying an M5:
Its available as a wagon
Its a half percent lease vehicle in germany (hybrid with more than 60km of range)
Its nicely overpowered
The half percent reason is the reason why the C63 failed. If it didnt have an 8 mile range I'd own one RIGHT NOW
orakle44@reddit
As much as I love an M5, the RS6 ticks all the boxes for me. That car has the looks, the handling and the go.
sioux612@reddit
The outgoing rs6 certainly has it all, especially the old software that is less error prone
But it's still not a hybrid so its immediately double the cost for a business lease
orakle44@reddit
The 2025 is hybrid.
sioux612@reddit
You mean the 48v mild hybrid?
Pretty sure that has a range short enough that its not even quoted as range, so definitely not a half percent car
orakle44@reddit
It's still listed as a hybrid🤷
ThatOneTimeItWorked@reddit
Congrats on being in a position to buy one, but your specification requirements are … insanely oddly specific to this one vehicle. Your requirements have never been met before UNTIL this specific vehicle.
Yet you’re confused that the M5 is getting a lot of hate, despite it changing its formula from what it’s been known for for the past few decades - the exact formula that people liked it for, is what it’s moving away from.
As an owner of multiple BMWs, I’m really disappointed in BMW at the moment - I don’t like the current design language of any of the range (the M3/M4 which were universally criticised for looking shit are now the best looking cars in the range!), and the interior UI and quality is down.
Right now the RS6 looks a way better option than an M5 even if it doesn’t offer quite the same feel, or in your case, unique hybrid requirements.
sioux612@reddit
I know that but it will be a move every brand will make in the coming years
There's a reason all mid size vehicles from german brands are now available in several hybrid configurations and the upmarket is moving in the same direction as we speak
With the next rs6 it will also be a hybrid, same with the m3
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
You will be an owner soon? Congratulations! Please share what color you've decided on?
sioux612@reddit
The "stock" green over a tan/orange interior with the normal headliner
Nopengnogain@reddit
If they think we watch the trinity for car content, they are in for a big surprise.
ScoffingYayap@reddit
I think Amazon realizes more than the BBC that the trio had an indefinable quality that made them what they were. That's why they didn't jump into new hosts like Top Gear did.
PRSArchon@reddit
You'd be surprised how many people did watch it for car contenr.
NetJnkie@reddit
They are also entertaining.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
They who?
I know for myself part of watching the OG trio was for car content but also tomfoolery.
Bruin-lb-31@reddit
This feels forced. I would have been much more interested if it had a different name. I wouldn’t even care if it was an identical show. Just give it a new name. Stop stealing gold to make iron.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
What feels forced?
zmooseonzloose@reddit
Their non-car related banter is just... not for me. The whole North Korea skit just felt forced, cringe, or whatever you want to call it. The boys could have gotten away with the same skit and made it funny because they have been together for years and know when and how to feed off of each other.
Overall I do like them when they are car focused. They should keep it that way until they figure out their rhythm.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Is this the only time you've watched them?
zmooseonzloose@reddit
Yes. Admittedly, if I watched them more, I might like them more and maybe their skit would be good/funny to me. Again, their car banter was great, I really enjoyed it, but I don't know how long I'm going to invest to just power through the skits.
Ultimately I feel like that's why Top Gear failed after the trio left. I gave it 3 or 4 episodes and never watched it again. It felt like they were trying to recreate the spark instead of starting from scratch.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Yeah. Throttle house guys have had a show together for some time. Unlike the TG replacement after Clarkson contract was not renewed.
You may or may not the up liking them but definitely worth watching now episodes vs passing judgement based on one episode.
Bruin-lb-31@reddit
Forcing new hosts into an established show created entirely for Clarkson, Hammond and May. How would you feel if an established/hit tv show, that you really enjoy, switched its entire cast halfway through the series and pretended like nothing was different? New name, new talent, new vibes, no controversy.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Who is pretending nothing is different? What was established for the trio.... That chapter is closed.
Sir_Lanian@reddit
I've just realised I may have to leave this sub. I don't care for new hosts. It's there a Clarkson Hammond and May sub?
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
There's a Clarkson farm sub. There's also a top gear sub.
You watch no other car related content?
Sir_Lanian@reddit
It was never about the cars lol. I skip most car related content.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
This makes no sense... Too say you skipped most of the car content is skipping most of the show.
No matter how much hijinks and tomfoolery the original trio participated in.... There was almost assuredly cars / vehicles involved.
Sir_Lanian@reddit
I guess as someone who watches for the car content with the added bonus of decent presenters, you wouldn't understand. Its hard to explain, but its like hanging out with your mates who are into hobbies you aren't. You appreciate it but dont necessarily care for it yourself.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
I understand your analogy here. But the skip the car content with regards to TG and TGT just didn't make sense to me.... Having said that I don't view throttle house guys as able to replace the trio but more so they definitely have some of the car & humor that is enjoyable.
Sir_Lanian@reddit
I skipped a lot of the car reviews in Top Gear. Actually I didn't skip them, I glossed over them as I was watching live. But I do skip these types of car reviews on Drive Tribe. I dont think there was a lot of car specific things in the grand tour. I watched all the content with no issues.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Yeah drive tribe isn't something I watch regularly.
Sir_Lanian@reddit
I gave the new presenters a shot in Top Gear. It was then that I realised I watched it for the trio, not necessarily the content. This realisation doubled down for Food Tribe and Clarksons Farm. Even the stuff Hammond and May do together is fun. So yeah I dont watch it for the cars nor the new faces.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Yeah that's why I look forward to throttle house with a bigger budget. They have fun. Get along well. Have collaborated with Chris Harris on a few episodes. Hammond made an appearance recently as well.
THEXMX@reddit
Yikes
WySLatestWit@reddit
I don't think they're bad, but they're a bit bland. They'll need time to find some personality. They already have chemistry, now they just need to learn how to be entertaining presenters and not just car guys.
THEXMX@reddit
Will take time... yeah i agree on that but if they still haven't "got it" within several months then it's time to call it a day.
Amazon should just create a new CAR SHOW with it's own people.
instead of replacing the grand tour cast.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
They are using an established brand. Even if they did a new car show on Amazon, must would still compare naturally compare it to TGT
THEXMX@reddit
Nah, if they did a new show? it would be IT'S OWN THING.
Nothing to do or compare with "TGT" they should leave it well alone.
it's done now.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
It's fine. It's just a name. I'll always hold TGT/ TG with the trip in a special place. New people on TGT is a new thing. TGT is just a name.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Is this your first time viewing anything from throttle house?
THEXMX@reddit
The problem is the "Trio" worked as they're mates, these guys however seem bland or empty nothing there (yet)
And no Not my first time.
Who downvoted me 10 times? wow sad bastards lol
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Right. Throttle house are mates and get along well. So that's why I asked if you've ever watched it before.
THEXMX@reddit
Must be the chemistry then? it just isn't the same i guess it can work but time will tell.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Of course it's not the same. It never will be no matter who it is.
imperial_order66@reddit
I have honestly tried the Throttle House guys a few times. While I'm sure they hit for most, they miss for me. I just can't get their vibe. Something just feels off and I can't get my finger on it. I wish them the best, I'm sure they'll find the audience. But their vibe isn't for me. I'll stick to the other car channels I like and pass on the New TGT.
And for Francis, he's a great short form content person and very knowledgeable on both cars and trains. But, again, his vibe isn't for me. I'll continue to stick with my train channels as well.
The thing that made Clarkson, Hammond, and May special was that growth with a very shallow audience in the early days of Top Gear. They grew with the audience and in turn we grew with them. With The Grand Tour, it was built for them in a prime of success. Amazon is misjudging this one, in my mind.
I wish the new hosts well and hope the audience finds them, as for me, I'm out.
Welcome to the New TGT: Throttle-House Guys and Trains. It'll be a ride, that's for sure.
Regret_NL@reddit
Ye, no.
Grimdotdotdot@reddit
Has the TGT hosting been confirmed by anyone but The Sun?
LloydChristmas_PDX@reddit
First time seeing these two, don’t find them funny or interesting at all.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Makes sense to have that opinion and it being your first time. Hopefully you'll watch more and enjoy
Trekgiant8018@reddit
Every iteration of not May, Hammond, and Clarkson is crap. Not bothering with this.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
I think Clarkson and Caleb have been good together.
Trekgiant8018@reddit
They don't review cars together. Caleb on The Grand Tour would be insufferable.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
Oh, I was going off "every iteration". But if you're just sticking to cars reviews.... Harris & crew was enjoyable. This isn't too say it was better than the OG trio but wouldn't call it crap.
On their own throttle house duo are enjoyable.
ItsTimetoLANK@reddit
Quality content. I look forward to what they can do with an Amazon budget. I'm looking forward to being entertained. Notice I'm not whining and complaining that those boomer hosts aren't getting into their scripted hijinks anymore. Oh no! You've attached my tent to a crane without me knowing somehow. How spontaneous and funny of you.
WySLatestWit@reddit
...do we really have to immediately jump to shitting on the original trio in order to show our support for the new folks? How childish is that?
ItsTimetoLANK@reddit
No, it's just that those old guys weren't as great and perfect as you make them out to be. Some of those pranks and whatnot were beyond scripted. Everyone is filling their depends around here because of some new hosts. The old guys aren't coming back. Watch the new stuff or not. No need to complain constantly.
WySLatestWit@reddit
I don't think most people care that the pranks and such were scripted, it's funny television. We can accept that the old guys are retired and not coming back without having to tear down what they did before their retirement. Without those three guys and their "scripted pranks" these new hosts wouldn't have a show to continue in the first place. There's a reason The Grand Tour was such a success, and that the trio were together for nearly 20 years. I hope that it will continue to be a good and entertaining show into the future with these new hosts, but I don't need to insult what came before in order to show my support for the new.
Thirst_Trappist@reddit (OP)
I think what they are trying to say... I'm an overly aggressive manner... Is throttle house guys deserve an open minded chance. Now how that fits with train guy... I'm not sure.
Few_Commission9828@reddit
Its just the most reddit thing. You either have to be on one side or the other. If you like something you have to shit on the other things to prove to people that your thing is best!
ccReptilelord@reddit
I wish these gentlemen a the good fortune on continuing the show, but is there something of a r/jeremyjamesandrichard?
