I gotta ask tray or a box cpu is it worth it, to go with the tray one?

I am browsing one of my local retailers and I see the 7800X3D listed twice at different prices? So I investigate and they sell it in a tray for about 60$ less than the box one and only a year of warranty. I mean 60 bucks is 60 bucks to be spend somewhere else on your rig right? Or am I missing something.

tray + 1 year warranty = 1. coming out of a built and recycled pc, 2. most likely the chip is verified by seller that it has lost the silicon lottery, more or less

nah, the tray CPUs are what they ship to OEMs. Dell and HP don't need or want a bunch of retail packaging.

If a CPU is working for a year it is highly unlikely to stop working during warranty period.

Tell that to Intel 13th and 14th gen…
Warranty length is always a trade off that only you can judge.

Statistics are clear. Shame you pretend one instance negates clear pattern set over decades.
Yes, he know there is a very small chanceand can pay more to get longer warranty

In general you are correct, but being in this field i would not be surprised if things start to change. Recent years there has been a push to push CPUs harder and closer to the edge of what the silicone is capable of, hence 13th gen and 14th gen issues.
We see it with GPUs, especially memory, as well.

I'd have no problem with tray CPU. For warranty, if a CPU lasts a year there's probably close to 100% chance it lasts forever.
