Easyeffects is a good linux exclusive

Is a free and open source application for Linux and other systems that provides a large array of audio effects and filters to apply to input and output audio streams.
How does that matter?
If you have a terrible microphone, it can really help you and make your voice sound better.
I cannot even find anything close to this software in Windows; it is a legend.
And even sometimes I make funny sounds and change the pitch or add reverb.
And it is not even that resource-intensive, as I remember.
So, if you have a bad microphone, use it; thank me later.

It's completely batshit insane to set up a simple EQ on Windows. So much easier with pipewire/pulseaudio to do these sorts of things.
StatisticianThin288@reddit
theres also simple screen recorder. so much better than the shitty ones on windows
SUPREMACY_SAD_AI@reddit
I realize nobody wants to hear this, but screen recording is actually pretty easy on Windows 11 with the Xbox Game Bar.
Super + G, pick a window, hit the red dot. Recording goes in your Videos folder when you're done.
StatisticianThin288@reddit
yes but besides that thers basically nothing for windows. my experience with xbox game bar has been pretty bad so i recommend snipping tool (windows11only)

The closest we have on Windows is the EQUALIZER APO, but it's true that it's not as good as EF
NickTheSickDick@reddit
Equalizer apo can be pretty clunky to use for just mic processing for example, although that's probably related to the way windows does things than anything else.
konnlori@reddit
You have to choose the device and place all the effects below it. Then, if you want to process another device, put it below previous effects. This is unintuitive asf, I agree
NickTheSickDick@reddit
I also haven't found a way for it to ignore output devices like speakers other than just pressing cancel on the prompt every launch lol.
yung_dogie@reddit
Necroing a bit, is anyone familiar with Voicemeeter on Windows and how to replicate the effects of the Intellipan panel in Easyeffects?
The only documentation I've found is here https://vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/VoicemeeterBanana_UserManual.pdf in the Audio Controls section, where it seems to be adding reverb and bass?
w0lfwood@reddit
you can use it to get the effect of windows-exclusive dolby tuning on linux.
you convolve the recording of a gaussian pulse played on windows. so cool! wildly better speakers.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Lenovo_ThinkPad_T14_(AMD)_Gen_4 scroll down to speakers
BrokenG502@reddit
Holy shit I've had the wifi issue on my thinkpad L14 and couldn't find a fix thank fuck I stumbled across this and felt like reading it tysm
w0lfwood@reddit
haha, yeah arch wiki is great for model specific quirks.
I have the P14 but it's the same chassis as the T14 and that's how i felt when i saw this.
konnlori@reddit
Is there a convolver for headphones? Or how can I capture my own convolver? This one sounds slightly worse than ASUS TUF Dolby
w0lfwood@reddit
this is tuned specifically for the thinkpad's speakers.
but yeah, you can get files to add 3D effect to a given model of headset, forget where I've seem them since my headset wasn't listed.
Airlinese@reddit
For headphones you can check AutoEQ to see if someone have already measured its frequency response and EQed it.
konnlori@reddit
Oh, sorry. Forgot to tell I meant surround sound
Airlinese@reddit
not sure what do you mean, you want the *surround sound* effect, or you mean your speaker with thinkpad's convolver sounds worse than with asus's dolby? for the former one you may able to do it with easyeffect's plugin; for the latter one there is a way to "bring" asus's dolby tuning to easyeffects: https://github.com/sklynic/easyeffects-tuf-gaming-a15/

I just wanted to increase the volume on Firefox video stream without cranking up the speaker volume. Tried various selections, limiter, autogain, compressor, etc. nothing really worked, not at all like in Windows where you have no-fuss normalize volume working easily.
Figured out that pulseaudio volume control will work on a per-application basis to make the volume louder, so there was no point having easyeffects installed as I never use an equalizer anyway.
Xu_Lin@reddit
Yeah, EE is amazing
-MostLikelyHuman@reddit
Genuine question: Was it so hard to type "Easy Effects"?
PavelDobCZ23@reddit
For real genuine question: Have you ever heard of the word "Context"?
-MostLikelyHuman@reddit
Context is a broad term; EE here could mean Eazy-E or something else. As if I care or something
RomeoNoJuliet@reddit
Nobody calls it EE ever, he just wanted to look cool lol
Mooks79@reddit
They just did.
Mooks79@reddit
Genuine question: was it so hard to check your grammar and follow a colon with a lower case, not upper case, character?
Any_Mycologist5811@reddit
Genuine question: Why do you care?
-MostLikelyHuman@reddit
The fact that you have the right to dislike what I say gives me the right to say it.
-MostLikelyHuman@reddit
Cause I'm not brainless

I was thinking about setting up a cheap old laptop with ChromeOS for my karaoke parties, since I already have a desktop and a laptop for personal use, and I didn't feel like administering another full-blown Linux OS for a device that will only run one web app and I might let my party guests have access to. Now I'm thinking I might actually put proper Linux on it instead. This software is really good for karaoke, then? I don't have a full sound board, just a $25 MicroMix from Guitar Center for preamplification and adjusting levels.
Known-Watercress7296@reddit
It's awesome, cli too so I can use it over ssh
oneiros5321@reddit
I use it to have mic effects across every apps.
Really useful piece of software.
And no, it's really not resource intensive...currently sitting at 0% CPU usage and 60mb of memory. Pretty much negligeable.
vixalien@reddit
As someone who’s not an audiophile, what can I do with it ?
Mantaba@reddit
As someone who is not an audiophile, I use it for noise reduction/gate on my microphone, fairly easy to setup and I don't have to worry about people hearing my keyboard, breathing and even my SO even when she's close(although that took some time to get it right).
And because I'm applying it to the microphone it works everywhere, Discord, in game voices chats, chatting with people on signal or wherever you use your mic. No need to fuss with Discords noise cancelling or noise gate. Everything is in after effects.
Also use it for some slight bass boost on my headphones :)
Juts@reddit
What audio source do you set for your mic in discord when doing this? I seemed to have to use the sink device it creates but ive read you aren't supposed to.
Mantaba@reddit
I just let it use the default option I have for the system which is my microphone. The EasyEffect Sink does appear in discord dropdown but it is not selected.
OrionFlyer@reddit
There is nothing better.
OkNewspaper6271@reddit
Easyeffects + qpwgraph, the perfect combo to have a nice somewhat complicated audio setup, or to piss your friends off on discord
Toorero6@reddit
Using helvum myself.
OkNewspaper6271@reddit
They do the same thing its just a qt vs gtk preference
Toorero6@reddit
I think helvum is missing the patch bay restore functionality.
OkNewspaper6271@reddit
In my experience its more or less useless anyway
QuickSilver010@reddit
I use it whenever I watch YouTube videos that completely ignore the concept of stereo audio
Dismal_Replacement57@reddit
What effects do you use?
QuickSilver010@reddit
Converting one sided stereo audio to mono
Dismal_Replacement57@reddit
RemindMe! 1day
lscardoso@reddit
The EQ module in EE is fantastic to improve audio quality and you can create an automatic EQ profile using REW and a cheap imm6 microphone.
somnamboola@reddit
tried to use it, it fucked up my sound setup, deleted it. maybe I will try again, but not very eager to be honest
ButtonExposure@reddit
The closest Windows alternative is EqualizerAPO. But it will something "forget" which audio device it is working with, forcing you to do a re-configuration and a reboot.
My only gripe with EasyEffects is the incredibly buggy UI for the equalizer effect when setting frequency and Q values.
FormationHeaven@reddit
I have a Lenovo Legion 5 with Dolby Atmos speakers and when i switched to Linux 5 years ago my sound was incredibly bad.
After tweaking with EasyEffects my sound was normal again, and this is what kept me in Linux, otherwise i would have no choice to return to windows because i had no other choice, the sound was just that bad.
Thank you EasyEffects devs i freaking love you guys, its my highest valued app.
X_m7@reddit
I use it for the autogain plugin, so I can hear quiet sounds without getting my ears blasted off when something louder happens and without constantly screwing with the volume settings, on Windows there's the loudness equalization thing at least but macOS doesn't appear to have anything similar at all (even though iOS has a "reduce loud sounds" setting kek), and I have also used EasyEffects to clean up my microphone audio, so yeah I love EasyEffects, great stuff.
_sLLiK@reddit
Makes me curious to see a portfolio of some of the creative ways it's been used.
Mean-Interest-2062@reddit
I really love adding reverberation to my pc sounds using that app.
duartec3000@reddit
Use it everyday to EQ my Speakers and Headphones! It's so easy to create and switch profiles.
