I find myself wearing my progressive glasses all the time now and only wearing my contacts when I actually go out to something social because I was sick of having to use readers every 5 minutes at home and work

Count yourself lucky. I've had cataract surgery at 40 (16 years ago).

yes before my cataract surgery there were probably a dozen pair lying about. in the kitchen, on my desk in all the vehicles and motorcycle tankbags, now theres one, on my workbench to see the little tiny stuff.

My wife. She has at LEAST one pair of reading glasses in each room. Multiple pairs in the car. A few at work. And still can never find a pair when she wants one.

Yes, almost every time I walk into a dollar store a bit 3 more and place them in my most common spots

I did until I had to switch to ‘progressive’ lenses. Still have a stash by the bed and couch though

I just lost a pair somewhere in the house yesterday. Getting ready to stock up!

guilty. 🙋🏻‍♀️ can’t shop for food if i don’t have a pair on me. the labeling gets smaller & smaller.

ha! good idea! i have a little magnifying glass i can whup out to get a closer look. ugh! the the things we have to go through. i’m old enough to remember that time we tried to fight for better food labeling.

Affectionate_Cost_88@reddit

Yep. I have two pair by my desk, in case I lose one. A pair in the kitchen for reading ingredients and recipes. A pair by my living room chair for reading. More in the bedroom for bedtime reading. One pair in the car and another in my purse. I think the only room I don't have them in is the bathroom, and now I'm wondering if I need them in the bathroom as well. Bonus - my dad never remembers to take his readers in when we go to a restaurant and then he can't read the menu. So I loan him my purse glasses, which are tortoiseshell pointy cat's eye style adorned with sparkly crystals. He's ADORABLE in them.
View on Reddit #57771960

gambitgrl@reddit

Yup, 2 in the home office, 3 scattered around the kitchen, 1 in the den, one in the purse, 1 in the car, the ugliest pair in the garage/workshop, others scattered hither and yon throughout the house.
View on Reddit #57845954

gambitgrl@reddit

I have at least 10 scattered around my house and car at this moment because. I just went from 1.25 to 1.5s when I realized I was still having to hold a book far from my face to focus. I like that I can get a 5 pack in a bunch of colors, makes any outfit look a bit more thoughtful/stylish. What I hate is knowing I will eventually get the stupid neck chain since it's annoying putting them up on my head, tucking a stem into my shirt collar, or getting them in and out of my purse as my visual needs change 500 times a day.
View on Reddit #57845814

gauriemma@reddit

Currently, I have a pair of readers stashed in the family room, dining room, library/front room, both bathrooms, kitchen, home office, bedroom, and basement, as well as in my car and on my desk at work. There’s also a pair in my work bag, camera bag, and at least one (probably more) jacket. And sometimes I still can’t find a pair.
View on Reddit #57845744

BigAndTall1968@reddit

One pair each in my bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen. I keep a pair in my truck. I always have a pair on me when I'm at work and also a spare pair in my work locker. I have bifocals but often wear contacts so I need the readers close by.

Coffee table in the living room, night stand and kitchen island (the pair I bring out of the house).

BerylReid@reddit

I wear readers for distance viewing too! Couldn’t go to the optician during covid so used weaker readers and can see perfectly through them still. My eyesight hasn’t deteriorated in five years. Unlike when I was going to the optician where I seemed to need stronger and stronger lenses every time I went. 🤔
View on Reddit #57817618

PsychologicalBat1425@reddit

Yep! I have them everywhere. Several rooms of the house, the office, the car, etc.  I used to have 20/20 vision for most of my life, but it all fell apart at 50. I used to think it was funny how my parents used to hold menus, magazines, etc., really far away to read them. I don't think it's funny anymore.

My husband does. I can pretty much go to any room in our house and find a pair sitting on the closest convenient flat surface. Occasionally, there will be multiple pairs piled up in one spot and/or scattered on multiple surfaces (tables, counters, windowsills). It drives me nuts as I like things not in use to be put away. Meanwhile, I have one pair of reading glasses and one pair of bifocals that have a designated spot for when they are not on my face.

View on Reddit #57779488

WhiskeyAndWhiskey97@reddit

For the last few years, up until a couple of months ago, I kept readers everywhere. Kitchen to read recipes, family room to read my tablet and cell, bedroom for my evening reading, music bag so I could read my music. I recently visited my ophthalmologist, and the first thing the nurse said to me when she was fetching me from the waiting room was, “Oh, you’re wearing readers!” The doctor altered my prescription for multifocals, and I don’t need readers any more. We still have readers all over the place, because my husband refuses to get re-refracted. 🙄
View on Reddit #57777800

View on Reddit #57774752

mredcurleyz@reddit

I sadly wear glasses so they're on my face when I'm awake. Granted they're progressive kind which I fought against getting for years until I got tired of eye doctor scolding me each at exam time for not having them. Nothing like a doctor going into parent mode on you...
View on Reddit #57771250

Naive-Garlic2021@reddit

Are you happy with them? I never felt I could see well with mine, and that only got worse as time went on, so I dug out an old far-vision pair and wow, the world sharpened into focus! Just don't know if I didn't get a good prescription or if that's common for a progressive to sacrifice some sharpness.
View on Reddit #57773244

mredcurleyz@reddit

I hate them. I have yet to fully adjust to them after a few years. There's times I take my glasses off to read and wow. It's so much better.
View on Reddit #57773493

Naive-Garlic2021@reddit

I would add sometimes add a pair of readers to my nose in order to sharpen the lower part enough for me to read. Now with the single vision, I just take them off and move text up closer If I can't find one of my many readers. I wonder if it has to do with it being hard to get the prescription/fit right, or if some people just don't do well with them. I couldn't handle the progressive contact lenses either.

I’ve been past readers for years. I wear progressives because I can’t read or drive without them. I have sheets with pockets on the sides. When I get into bed I take them off, put them in the pocket. Wake up and they’re right where I left them. On Wednesday night I feel asleep with them on. My husband rolled over on them and thank God they didn’t break. He woke up Thursday morning to me throwing the pillow and blankets all around looking for them, he put them in the pocket on his side. Ordered another pair that afternoon. Really dumb idea to have only one pair of glasses.

Nope. They're on top of my head all waking hours. I'm so nearsighted that my contact lenses are too strong to allow me to read small things (computer screens, regular print in books), so I always carry readers. Yes, I tried multifocal contacts. They \*worked\*, but I always felt like they were too much of a compromise for both near and far.
