Did you immediately say; “What the fuck is this?…… NO!”
falloutvaultboy@reddit
Did you bring it up to the wait staff?
KeyElectronic1216@reddit
Don’t lie
Appropriate_Face9750@reddit
who tf is even making that? Surely it's reception staff just chucking it in a microwave. No self decent chef would serve that.
Corssoff@reddit
The Birmingham Metropole truly is one of their lesser hotels. At least the CFz food trucks slap!
DatFurryBackUpIHave@reddit
£11 for chicken chunks and chips would have been worth it... If the portions wasn't that small imo. Then again the curry and chips truck that showed up on the last full day was a welcome sight. Never getting that £17 back of small squared pizza I had.
Corssoff@reddit
The butter chicken chips were actually insane, I so hope they’re back next year 🤎
DatFurryBackUpIHave@reddit
I'm planning to do con next year so hopefully they do. I'm a bit of a picky eater. Wish I went over to resorts world tbh (would have been easier if my hotel didn't involve a bus)
jesst@reddit
Don’t say that! I am staying there next week. My daughter has a competition at the NEC.
JemmaMimic@reddit
Roll, check. Bacon, check. Bony appetite!
-catskill-@reddit
Barely worth 5p
redditusernaeme@reddit
🤔
Background-Breath360@reddit
i would eat the piece of bacon then send it back with a beatin
Beynolds@reddit
Wow they’ve really gone down hill
offlinesir@reddit
OK, but did you talk to them? Ask for a refund? Hotels (especially hilton) aren't trying to possibly lose a customer over a £5 Bacon Roll, especially as this one probably cost less than £1 to make. Also most employees would just laugh with you on how sad it looks and just refund it.
DanzaDragon@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately this Hilton hotel has been doing a lot of penny pinching over the years even with large bookings. Been visiting that hotel for over a decade and the decline in service and offering has been appalling.
So a part of me is certain they don't care about losing their long term patrons let alone first time guests.
fezzuk@reddit
Hilton hotels are the shittiest places, I don't know why they have a reputation for being posh they haven't been like that since the 90s, they are run down fly ridden shit holes.
weirdburds@reddit
Depends on the hotel you go to. I’ve stayed at homewoods that are nice for work multiple timeszs
Dionyzoz@reddit
tbf Hilton owns both Waldorf and Conrad for example and the regular Hilton brand varies a ton, there are some genuinly "luxury" feeling Hiltons and some abysmal ones like with any large chain. I mean hell, Hilton even has like RV camping lol
ADDicT10N@reddit
Id be surprised if even 25p of ingredients went into that poor excuse for a bacon roll
flysslys@reddit
That is tragic
maybeknismo@reddit
All I wont is a, pitcher of ale and a butty for tea. Pitcher of ale and a butty for tea. Pitcher of ale and a butty for tea, now I'm 1ton poorer and I'm fuckin hungry.
steppan92@reddit
You’ve got fucked over my man.
vapeducator@reddit
Here's how it was prepared by executive chef Paris Hilton:

I liked the her other video.
sleebus_jones@reddit
Fine English dining. Surprised its not drowning in Heinz Beanz.
DanzaDragon@reddit (OP)
I opened it up to add sauce and burst out laughing seeing that I received a total of 0.6 bacon rashers and dry unbuttered bread for £5.
Turns out they were all like this, wasn't a fluke.
AnvilHoarder1920@reddit
i used to work for a hotel and would often find myself working the kitchen during the evenings a lot.
there was this panini we sold which came in a plastic wrapper which you nuked for 2 minutes. it cost around £7 and was fucking abysmal.
i told the manager at the time i refuse to sell them because it was embarrassing, whenever someone tried to order it i just straight up told the customer that they're shite and to order something else.
the pizza wasn't the worst thing in the world.
tompie09@reddit
That’s why I prefer to eat at restaurants as it’s their core business, hotel food is often less value for money
NewWayUa@reddit
To be fair, hotels are different. Some of them have restaurant as side thing only for guests, but some are positioning restaurant as separate place to visit even if you don't need a room. In the second case it's typically at least not bad.
Barkasia@reddit
Best carvery in Northern Ireland used to be at a hotel - La Mon House in Comber (the one that got bombed). It shut down during Lockdown and since re-opening the quality has noticeably dropped.
counterc@reddit
suspect you could say this about every business (hell, everything) in the Western world
georgekeele@reddit
My most memorable example of this was in a Radisson - my now wife's parents were staying there while visiting her, and we went over one evening and had dinner in the hotel. My wife ordered a 'low cal' choice of beetroot spaghetti - there were other descriptors, but I can't remember them because when it arrived it was quite literally chunks of beetroot chopped into very pink spaghetti.
It was inedible, when the waiter came to take our plates away he took one look at hers and said it wouldn't be charged. We suggested the dish needed some development work.
cambam69@reddit
Sounds about right for hotel food
Lazerhawk_x@reddit
Idk what kinda hotels you stay in man but ive never had a problem personally.
HailLugalKiEn@reddit
Same. Dehydrated cafeteria scrambled eggs? Fuck yeah buddy I got salt n pepper packets. Super processed per cooked bacon? That shits delicious crumbled up in the scrambled eggs, now you don't need the salt. Pre cooked frozen sausages, linked or patties instead of bacon that day? Put it on your waffle that you got but only ate a quarter of because you don't even really like waffles, it's just what you do when you stay in a hotel.
I'm convinced that people who say cafeteria style\quick foods are disgusting and won't eat them are weak and wouldn't survive any actual emergencies. Yeah it's, not gonna be gourmet, but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of it and enjoy yourself.
beetsandbears@reddit
God I love crappy cafeteria food
perpendiculator@reddit
‘hotel’ covers a whole of businesses and a whole lot of prices, lol. ‘hotel food’ isn’t one single standard.
DefectiveLP@reddit
Should have gotten the bacons roll.
Craic-Den@reddit
The chef is laughing at you
pepperandsteak@reddit
I got a similar bacon sarnie from two guys called burton and Bennett
Busterlimes@reddit
Well, you didn't buy a bacon sandwich.
JohannesVanDerWhales@reddit
It's back bacon, aka fatback. Standard in the UK. US-style bacon uses pork belly.
96385@reddit
Fatback is different. It's literally just fat with almost no meat whatsoever. It's mostly used for flavoring and to add fat to sausages.
Busterlimes@reddit
So, ham. This is ham
96385@reddit
Ham comes from the leg, not the back.
Chaya_kudian@reddit
Living it up large.
doobiebrother69420@reddit
Looks like you got British food alright
prussik-loop@reddit
That would be going back
notadolphinn@reddit
This was a flashbang seeing on Reddit after commenting on your bsky post abt this a lil bit ago lmfao
rasta__mouse@reddit
Absolute violation.
PGHxplant@reddit
Help me out as Yank who’s never had one: it’s supposed to have butter as well, right?
TRASH_TOWN_USA@reddit
(half brit half yank) no, most of the time it is just bacon and bread. sometimes it has brown sauce. it sounds like a stupid sandwich but i find that if the bacon is fatty enough, the grease absorbs into the bread and you shouldnt need sauce. get some good quality bacon and bread and it would surprise you.
TheTimeIsNever4545@reddit
Full brit here, bacon sandwiches usually come with butter, at least in my neck of the woods.
Cool_Ad_8675@reddit
And bacon too!
-GenghisJohn-@reddit
Bacon roll
badpersian@reddit
You pay for the class and service.
You see this bin, sir? It was baked by an artisan bakery using traditional ovens in the heart of the English countryside.
You see this bacon slice, sir? It was cut from the finest pig that roamed the oldest homestead farm in the garden of England. Slaughtered on the birthday and in honour of our lord and saviour King Charles III.
The napkin this delicious experience is served on is handwoven by local survivors of domestic abuse who have admirably worked their way to establish unique custom napkins we like to call "Tissues" here at Hilton Hotel.
Enjoy the experience.
NewVectors@reddit
Bro got that "here, damn" ahh sandwich
4eji0bek@reddit
They prey on people lacking self respect to call out their bullshit. It's a "what can I get away with?" world.
munchiesandburgers@reddit
Very nice.
Ququleququ@reddit
Bacon. Roll. So whats missing then?
Dyon86@reddit
The rest of the bacon
TheoryParticular7511@reddit
Moisture.
IMissNanami@reddit
That’s HORRIBLE!!! If I had anything to not complain about in Hilton hotels it was the food🥲 This would’ve sent me over the edge LMFAO
hotmailist@reddit
to get even....u shudve shitted into the fiver before handing it over
dayzplayer93@reddit
You've been robbed
xai7126@reddit
Nothing is more depressing that food from England
that_Dame@reddit
It's so sad
joeljaeggli@reddit
Was it the metropole on edge are road in London?
vordh0sbn-@reddit
The driest roll I ever did clap my eyes on.
DanzaDragon@reddit (OP)
I felt like a competitive eating champion with how much water I had to chug along side this to get it down.
vordh0sbn-@reddit
You mean you didn't send it back? Brutal. Fair play for the hard work.
DanzaDragon@reddit (OP)
Hotel management were made aware of this and did rectify this by ensuring 2-3 rashers were in each roll the following days so at that point I got two free rolls for my commitment to eating shitty food the day prior.
snertwith2ls@reddit
Awesome, because that first one is criminal!
vordh0sbn-@reddit
Took one for the team there.
fernofry@reddit
I think we need to get more accepting of demanding refunds for unacceptable food.
CatyBPerry@reddit
That would be great
kahran@reddit
Your results may vary in a sit-down restaurant.
The movie "Waiting" was a documentary and the events happened in real time.
Dysfunxn@reddit
Nothing sets off a good steak like some ketchup.
Segat1@reddit
I posit that the Bacon Sarnie is a National Dish^TM and what you’ve received here is positively unBritish and management should be given six of the best.
Mister_Green2021@reddit
Who orders hotel food with food delivery like grub and such?
head_face@reddit
That's upsetting. Conversely, here's a fry-up that room service brought me when I stayed at the Bristol College Green Marriot in 2017.
Frenchie_Paws222@reddit
I’d flip the table!!!
LukeMortora01@reddit
This is 100% confuzzled, lol.
Quaver-toes@reddit
No you paid £5 for that place to buy bacon and rolls in. You got shafted and got the scraps once they made cash lol
buzzmcg@reddit
£5 for a roll with half a slice of bacon
JohannesVanDerWhales@reddit
Yeah uh...never order room service. It's always overpriced and underwhelming.
doug1963@reddit
Where is this called bacon? It looks like ham to this American.
International-Fun-86@reddit
There are hostels with 100 times better food. :P :D
Epthewoodlandcritter@reddit
One bacon is all you get for £5!
SEND_ME_PEACE@reddit
Surprised you got that much
jazzgrackle@reddit
Slather in mayonnaise
itwasmayham@reddit
yum, it’s rich in bunly goodness
jehozephat@reddit
Utter disgrace
PhantomFoxtrot@reddit
Deconstructed roll.
Swoocerini@reddit
I saw this circling during the Confuzzled convention: everyone was shocked at how bad it was!
icy_ticey@reddit
Well your problem is that it’s not bacon. /s
bopeepsheep@reddit
Hilton in Coventry was way better than that last weekend - their service charge is cheeky as fuck but the food was good and as close to decent value as I expect hotel bar food to be.
fezzuk@reddit
I mean you stayed in a Hilton hotel.
datritle@reddit
Hilton is good. They will absolutely refund that and maybe even give you some other perks.
aea1987@reddit
That looks as dry and a nuns fanny....
Mattwildman5@reddit
Well.. you got a bacon roll.
Kryds@reddit
You are in the location, where you should complain.
monkeyPICmonkeydo@reddit
what's worse is that bacon has probably been left under a lamp for the last 10 minutes, I dunno how you justify that, they must be losing cost elsewhere to be making up for something with that
hhfugrr3@reddit
Paris didn't get her dog its own house by letting the company give away extra bacon you know!!!
quaver@reddit
Metropole? If so, seems about right.
spidersprinkles@reddit
That's terrible. My old job put me up in a Hilton for a week once and the breakfast was actually pretty good? This was quite a few years ago now though so they must have gone downhill since then.
Rev-Dr-Slimeass@reddit
Hotels almost always have the worst food. I never eat at a hotel restaurant.
Cool_Ad_8675@reddit
Looks like you didn’t pay £5 but were robbed for £5 OP.
macandcheesefan45@reddit
Where’s the butter
strandy76@reddit
Well you got one... lol
HotboxxHarold@reddit
Well you definitely got bacon and a roll 😂
BudderscotchPudding@reddit
This is why people clown on British food 😔
Empty-Cartoonist5075@reddit
Only £5. You got a great deal comparatively.
notLilCrumbcake@reddit
5 isn't enough for this
gerrineer@reddit
Wierd that Mrs and I stayed at the hilton in Nottingham breakfast was pre paid ha( very hungover) had the full English lots of coffee and oj than found the breakfast bar went through the bagels and the fruit and German selection then found they did fresh omelets did one of those the waiter stood by us asking if I needed more oj or coffee ( answer was yes) before stuffing a couple of sauces in the pocket for later Mrs was horrified ...but got to next hotel ( it was a wedding next day ) no food til6 me laughing got me pocket sausages
DanzaDragon@reddit (OP)
Was at the Birmingham one for an event. Over the years they've specifically reduced what they offer there I swear just to penny pinch such as:
Aircon in most rooms don't work and haven't been gassed/serviced in years, going there every year I've seen the gradual decline.
They no longer offer room service at all when they used to let you pay +£5 to have that option.
Reduced food menu.
Check out is at 10:30AM instead of Midday. You're paying top wack for an exec room and then told you're essentially losing out on time you've paid for.
We only had our room serviced twice the entire week we were there. I'm not sure if that's now policy for larger events but again, paying full rates and getting reduced service.
With the context of all of this, the £5 diminished bacon roll perfectly visually summed up my Hilton Birmingham experience.
Cainjake@reddit
This is a sad sandwich
Pandaburn@reddit
I see bacon and I see roll.
jerrythecactus@reddit
They basically just stole your money here. I mean, fuck I'm pretty sure you'd have gotten better food from a homeless shelter.
Pinkerton891@reddit
Funny, we were in a Hampton by Hilton in York a few weeks ago and thought the breakfast was the best of the regular chain hotels.
Albeit I didnt ask for a bacon roll...
BOOSHMEHN@reddit
You sure it wasn't "bacon, roll"
WishfulStinking2@reddit
Very much taking ‘a bacon’ to its limits
Proof-Medicine5304@reddit
a hilton of all places! someone needs to inform Paris
triple7freak1@reddit
Bacon Roll à la Paris Hilton with low fat lol
