I thought that was the worst California roll ever made at the bottom. Is the brown sauce spicy? I feel like that's way too much mayo (although I know that's just how some people do it) for fries.

It’s not spicy, it’s meaty with actual meat in it (Flemish stew), it can be a bit on the sweeter side too. This combo fries-stew-mayo is typically Belgian/flemish, and we like it a bit soggy as seen in the photo. I would definitely recommend for you to try if you ever get the chance !

Actually it’s a cervela (lookworst or garlic sausage) that was fried. But yes, the frikandel special is really staple in this meal. You get the cervela if you’re feeling a bit adventurous.

Yeah, I just came back from reading the part about the German frikadel too😁 You're right that they are close. I've had those, they're closer to meatballs though, where the Dutch/Flemish frikandel is extremely fine minced. And the main difference is that it's deep-fried.

No doesn’t really taste like that. Bratwurst is more German. In Belgium and the Nerherlands we eat a 'frikandel'. Based on the description I couldn't make it sound very attractive, but it's quite nice. You can eat them plain, with a sauce like mayo of like in the picture. Then it's called 'frilandel speciaal'. It will have the meaty stick, mayo, curry sauce and onions.
