Contacted EE because my insurance co. wanted proof that I was the only user of phone after making a claim for a broken screen. EE sent me proof then blocked my phone. I contacted them and got passed various departments over several days ,to ask why and they said it was a mistake by EE but would not lift the block and that because I didn't buy phone from them , I had to prove where I bought phone, as I could have stolen it.
I had been with BT/EE for a number of years , so I couldn't believe this. I said that the phone was a Christmas present, I didn't have the receipt, EE had made the mistake and I had been using this phone since Christmas without problems. Eventually, an EE manager insisted they would not remove block until I could send them receipt for phone and if I went to another provider I my phone would still be blocked. She was extremely rude and totally unhelpful.
I eventually got the proof of purchase and sent it. I then had to send various chat messages to get it unblocked. Overall, this mistake by EE cost me about 5 hours in calls , emails and chat messages . I was then contacted to ask why I was leaving EE. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
EE are the worst by far, I've never had more than 2 bars in my home. I'm normally on 0 or 1 bar. They claim excellent outdoors and indoors for my address. That is a lie.
I have had an extremely bad experience with this provider. I’ve dealt with a very large number of unpleasant situations. Their customer service is rude—honestly, disgustingly rude—raising their voice during calls and constantly trying to add extra charges.
The problems started some time ago. Previously, I was with BT and they were genuinely a reliable provider. After many years of issues with other companies, I finally had peace of mind. With BT, I never once had to contact customer service. Everything just worked.
Then the time came to renew my contract, as the price had increased significantly. I contacted them, and a lady persuaded me to take a deal for 1000 Mbps at a good price, with a guarantee that the speed would not drop below 750 Mbps. It sounded like a great deal, so I agreed.
When the equipment arrived, it turned out to be EE. I called them and was told that EE and BT had merged and that it was basically the same company. From that moment on, the problems started.
The internet performance became the worst I have ever experienced. I work from home and simply could not work properly because something was constantly going wrong. I asked for an engineer visit. The engineer told me that I would never achieve the speeds promised over Wi-Fi, despite what I had been told on the phone, and that to reach those speeds I would need to use a cable. He also suggested asking for a booster, which I was unhappy about because I wanted to avoid using signal boosters throughout the house. This is a 4-bedroom bungalow.
For comparison: with BT, I had 500 Mbps, the router was in exactly the same location, and I consistently achieved 400–450 Mbps throughout the entire house. Now, even with a good signal, I get around 200 Mbps in the room above the router and only 250–300 Mbps right next to the router.
I contacted customer service to complain. My concerns were ignored, and instead I was pushed to take a booster for an additional £5 per month. At first I refused, but eventually I agreed because it was impossible to work under these conditions.
When I called again to request the boosters, another agent offered me a “better router” for an additional £10 per month. I was shocked. I asked if this was their normal practice—providing a weak router as part of the package and then charging extra for equipment that actually works properly. There was an awkward silence, and then he claimed that I already had the best router and that boosters would be enough.
I made it clear that I was very unhappy and mentioned that it was good these calls were recorded, as I would expect conclusions to be drawn from that conversation.
I was told I could have up to three boosters, but not all at once. They would send one, and if it was still bad, I would have to call again to request another—up to a maximum of three.
I received one booster quickly. And here is the most absurd part: I have never plugged it in. It is still unopened in a cupboard. Despite this, the internet started working better. It’s still not good (around 200 Mbps), but it is now stable. I repeat: the booster was never connected.
I absolutely do not recommend this company. Please be careful. The level of customer service is extremely poor—I have never encountered such awful support before, with agents raising their voices and being completely unable or unwilling to resolve issues.
I truly wish BT would return as a separate provider.
I also witnessed a situation in an EE physical store in Feltham, London. A couple wanted to take out an internet contract and clearly stated that they wanted BT as the provider and router. The EE representative kept insisting that EE and BT were the same and that they didn’t need to worry. At the time, I wondered why he was pushing this so hard. Now I understand why. In the end, I believe they did not take the offer.
Overall, a very disappointing and frustrating experience.
Very poor signal, terrible website and mobile app that doesn't have basic functionality and even worse - it shows you incorrect information. I would NOT recommmend.
I know you posted this 6 months ago, but my wife is dealing with an issue right now where she bought her phone through them and was paying it off through the plan, and she just noticed that she'd actually finished paying off the phone about a year ago, and EE moved her to a plan that kept charging her the exact same amount as if she was still paying it off.
They did send a text letting her know her plan was ending, but she missed it in amongst all the EE spam. She's tried calling to basically ask if they could just pretend she'd moved to a sensible plan a year ago and reimburse her the difference, but they're refusing.
Apparently it's company policy to rip off their customers when they're not paying attention. Most of my family is with EE so I shall now be convincing them all to switch.
Ohh no . I am really sorry you have such a bad experience with them , glad i stayed with my current provider… I am with Vodafone for a quiet few years, and I am so satisfied with them, no constans spam calls/ messages , and i just had a mew 17pm and only paying £ 60 together with sim and phone
Their customer service is absolutely terrible. I have has major issues over the last two months trying to change my service and they keep co@£ing it up. I am really close to ending g my contract with them.
Not great. My sim only contract ran out. They put me on a slightly dearer rate. Fine I thought. They then doubled it in one month and told me they were moving me on to a 30 day contract. I bought a contract elsewhere but EE charged me for the entire month on a contract I hadn't signed up for. So I had to pay the double rate and pay another company whilst EE didn't provide me with services.
I range them they said they'd refund it. They refunded 90p of it. I can't be bothered phoning them again.
They are massively dodgy and you need to be careful what they sign you up to. They tend to send a text and say if you don't contact us we're going to do this.
Ohhh I am soo sorry you had such a terrible experience with them , thank you for your comment, after all I am glad I stayed with my current provider, hope you will have a better experience with other providers:)
Only had issues with the web chat. If you're ever in a situation where you need to speak to customer support, ring them. It's like talking to two different companies. Miles better over the phone. Been with them 5 years+
If you can get Voxi. I am paying £15 for £140GB, unlimited social media app use, unlimited video app use and unlimited music app use all of which are separate from my data. So the date would only really be used for browsing the internet. I’m also on EE still too but the reason why I hate them is because they tried to charge me more for a lesser plan even though I’m “upgrading” and they’ve removed the ability to stack discounts off for more money off your phone bill.
They used to respect loyalty and provide an adequate customer service, especially when you wanted to buy something(!). Now, I think since BT took over, their customer service is seriously poor, even when you are trying to buy something or set up something new. Pushed from pillar to post, even their complaints department will fob you off. I’ve taken my business elsewhere this year.
There coverage map is a total lie. I signed up for EE because their coverage map said excellent 5G and 4G in my area. When in reality it was struggling to get a weak 4G signal. Needless to say they were dropped within a week. I honestly have no idea why they are allowed to straight up lie about the coverage they have, it's like false advertising.
I have had utter bizarrely low coverage recently with EE, been their customer from over a decade and they were the best in the business but noticed extremely poor coverage indoors sometime left without network for hours and missing important calls. Seriously thinking about leaving them.
Ben with EE for years, never a problem. I live in a remoteish area and have a great signal all the time. I think our monthly bill for 3 sim only with more data than we’ll ever need is about £50, which I’m happy with.
EE coverage is great, but their site and app is probably the worst in the business. Customer service is UK-based, and mixed - some great workers, some absolute donkeys. It’s expensive.
Yes did a little comparison and their prices are really expensive and out of my range , however I deal I got is for 16 plus 256 gb with £30 upfront £70 with unlimited data calls, text for 24 month contract
With 128gb / £30 upfront,unlimited service, /24month 59.68 month
I switched to EE a couple of years ago (from O2). Much better coverage, and the couple of times I have called customer service they were brilliant, and were from the UK! Only downside I have found is you can't do conference calls with EE.
Glad you have a good experience with EE , I am not really bothered about conference calls , just generally, networking coverage, spam calls , customer service
They all vary by area, there are EE deadspots which other networks cover. But generally IME EE is the best *by a country mile* in terms of quality of coverage and overall speed and reliability of Internet.
I've been with EE for yonks but to be honest I so rarely use my phone as an actual phone I can't comment on coverage. But I needed to speak to their customer service a few days ago because I was having trouble accessing the online account, and they were really good and sorted my issue right out.
Have a look at the nvmo, I’ve stopped going with the main stream companies and use the virtual networks instead. Example 1p mobile, lyca etc all use ee network but are far cheaper. Plus if you go with a sim only you could avoid the yearly price rises.
I switched to EE from Three. They were good but expensive. They also have steep roaming charges if you travel. The signal is great (London) and customer service is much better than Three.
When the contract was up I decided to buy a phone direct from Samsung, pay monthly for that, and go Sim only. Worked out so much cheaper.
I think the sim only deal I wanted was about £30 a month from EE (unlimited data and calls etc) but when I rang them up and asked for a PAC code because I'd found a deal for £12 a month for the same package, they matched it and threw in free roaming. So negotiate if you can!
I have an EE Sim only, the reception in my area (North Lincs) is the best I’ve tried and the only be in f been able to get 5g at home. I’ve never once had a call from them just the occasional text if I forget to pay that month.
I’m with Vodafone now, I am paying £78 right now for my 14 PM , honestly it was a good experience for me from O2 … I was with them , had a horrible service, their customer service was awful rude and argued, after left them , 2 years I got spam calls from them, their spam calls sent me a fake contract , with a Samsung S20, I am an IPhone user , which I didn’t signed up at all, so I hate them and never every want to go back again…
