I can't imagine having over 3x the power as my tuned car at roughly the same weight.
I've been in 800 hp cars that weigh 1000 lbs more and it felt useless on the street. GM is insane.

I had a C5Z06 that I adored and years later wanted back in the fast lane so I bought a C7Z. My takeaway was that the 650 I had available in THAT car was completely useless on the street. We’re into ludicrous territory at this point.
Ok_Satisfaction_7063@reddit
I disagree. The power in a C7 ZO6 was very usable...but you have to allow the tyres to develop enough heat. In each of these modern cars, you have to allow significant heat to get into the tyres before any spirited or performance driving; once achieved, that car is perfect on the road. I've owned zr1s as well as gt500s. Now, the GT500 with those Goodyear so-called "supercar" tyres are very sketchy when cold, but when the tyres are warm, even on the GT500, that car is very tractable. The new ZR1's have a tyre temperature monitor. Blue symbol , Cold tyres, don't even try to drive it hard at all. Green symbol, tyres still are not warm enough for performance driving. And then with the red symbol, you know that the car can put down serious power. It's the computer that controls everything anyway.... But electronic controls cannot overcome the laws of physics; an ultra powerful car with 600 plus horsepower on cold tyres is not going to have adequate traction in any situation, even a prepped track. A Doctor friend of ours had a previous generation Supra - mk 4 - with the high wing, he wanted to drive that car hard in the rain (as such like an F1 driver) and like an idiot turned the traction control system off. That car didn't even have stability control, only abs and traction control, and he turned it off in the rain and drove the car hard. He inevitably wrecked the car. He totaled it. We have to have common sense and respect for powerful vehicles. Now, I do wish that Chevrolet had offered an AWD option for the ZR1, analogous to the E-Ray. That would have made for a much safer car under ALL conditions. But, word is,7 the Zora will be AWD. Hopefully at some point, Chevrolet will offer AWD on the ZR1. But for such a powerful car, this ZR1 puts it's power down quite well, ON WARM TYRES.

Drive a boosted C7 making a bit more than a Z, its so useless and uneccesary but love it haha.
Nero_Wolff@reddit
This is why i want a 718 Spyder. Light with 400hp and a manual. Perfect recipe of fast enough without being stupidly unusable
opeth10657@reddit
A two seater non-hybrid supercar weighing almost 4k lbs is pretty crazy though.
DrunkenReindeer@reddit
As a longtime Viper fanboy, I have to hand it to GM for confidently whipping Dodge and Ford's ass with this car. Time to get behind GM's new American Supercar and dream of adding one next to its old one someday.
Also, I want to take a moment to say "fuck you" to Dodge pushing bass boats instead of Vipers in 2025. What could have been...

I'd love a viper with the hemi. My gen v sounded amazing with headers and exhaust but it's unlikely they bring back a v10, so any viper would be good and the hemi imo sounds so good, especially with a supercharger whine.

Ralph Gilles , one of the executives of SRT did mention in an interview a few years ago that they did try to fit the hellcat in the viper but the engine was too tall, it wouldn’t clear the hood
Nero_Wolff@reddit
As unfortunate as it is, the challenger and charger (non ev) probably make them more money than the viper did. You see them everywhere and vipers were always rare as hell
whypussyconsumer@reddit
this is absolutely insane, i wonder what would happen in a roll against a plaid
johnnygobbs1@reddit
Need to wait for vids to drop but I would still lean plaid
guy_incognito784@reddit
The most insane thing about this, from the article, is how driver friendly this is.
I would figure this would be virtually undrivable on public roads but sounds like it isn't.
Hats off to GM.
avboden@reddit
It’s still a corvette!
guy_incognito784@reddit
I’d love to drive one of these, or a Z06.
Proportions look off but performance wise I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to get behind the wheel of one.
bimmervschevy@reddit
The most impressive part of this car is that it’s a 1000hp RWD turbocharged hypercar slayer that won’t randomly decide to end you one day like a Viper will.
DanielG165@reddit
Virtually zero turbo lag from the LT7 is absolutely crazy. That means that from 3,000 RPM to 8,000 RPM at full song, you’ll just be feeling a surge of unrelenting energy, and yet it’ll be predictable? Like, there won’t be this huge crazy torque shove like what McLarens have that hits you suddenly like a truck. I can’t even imagine how brutal those new disks from Alcon are going to be on the 2026 models.
I also love how as soon as the embargo lifted, we just got FLOODED with ZR1 content lol. It’s gonna be a good lunch.
MichaelLochte@reddit
I feel like the torque shove in mclarens is really low though. If you’re at 3k rpms it’s ready to rip. At these power levels it feels like it all comes down to traction. The 720/750 just lights up tires through 4th gear
Motohvayshun@reddit
Heck yes way, I couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to get online tonight.
shiftdown@reddit
Embargo must have just lifted today. Savagegeese just dropped their video too
Captain_Nipples@reddit
Cleetus McFarland just posted a video too. He's got an engineer talking about everything on the motor. Its actually really good. This engineer is obviously passionate about his job and makes the video even better
macgirthy@reddit
Looking forward to Lightning lap 2026. Hopefully Ford provides a GTD, otherwise we know they are tucking tail with the ZR1 competing in the field. No more excuses on not being same competition. Not when the GTD is nearly double the price of a ZR1.
thisisjustascreename@reddit
The GTD is DOA unless you’re a Mustang fan girl.
macgirthy@reddit
Agreed, specially when they announced the weight and how it couldnt beat a 3RS. Ford must have benchmarked a GT3 from 2018, with tire tech from that era too.
