The family and I are looking at reallocating to Milton Keynes at the end of the year to be closer to family, is there anything we should know about the city before moving (hidden gems, places to avoid etc?

How much for a 2 bedroom place with a small garden for my đ's?
JBleans@reddit
I bought a 2 bed end of terrace with a garden and drive in a decent estate for ÂŁ280k last year

If you can get to these places:
The Shenleys - Shenley Church End, Shenley Lodge, Shenley Brooke End Willen - right next to the lake. Broughton - nice new builds Cranfield (for outside MK but still pretty close and has that village vibe) Newton Leys is nice but the crime rate was destroyed by a murder and a gun incident, but they were isolated.
I find the estates off of the V4 are pleasant.

What gun incident?

Whitehouse, Fairfields and Glebe Farm are also nice new developments with plenty of new houses.

The general rule in MK is that the estates with really straight roads are usually not great, and the estates with really bendy and winding roads are usually much nicer.
Most estates will have a combination of nice and not so nice bits, which actually averages out to most places being kinda OK. Overall MK is a good place to live, with lots of work opportunities, great redways, lovely green space, and not too dirty compared to other large cities.
There are a few places that are just considered pretty terrible, like fishermead, netherfields, fullers slade, conniburrow, etc.
Other than that it depends on what you are after. The areas directly round the city will be busier and noisier but also have easy access to the shops and public transport. Some of the flats they have built in the city would give you better access to the limited nightlife that we have here if that's what you are into.
Older places like wolverton can be really nice, but have limited parking and busy roads, so make sure the house you look at has parking that would fit your needs. If you are into cars this might limit you a bit. Stony Stratford is beautiful, but you'll pay for that beauty in the higher house prices. Newport pagnel is also older and pretty, but parts of it are VERY prone to flooding.
If you have kids you might want to pick based on the school catchment areas (most schools are fine, but naturally some are better than others). Luckily most estates have lots of green space and play parks for kids which is good. There are some (limited/isolated) issues with kids joining gangs, so make sure your kids don't get wrapped up in that stuff and they'll be fine.
Bletchley is kinda a place of its own. People I know who live there like it, people who have never lived their can turn their nose up a bit at the area. It can be a bit more run down than the other parts of mk, but it has some decent houses in places still.
This is all just my opinion of course.
Good luck with your move, I'm sure you will love it here.

Very kind response compared to the others that are 'fed up' of genuine enquires.

Great post
bulldog3008@reddit
I would avoid the location in the photo for a start unless you like to live near brothels.
Willen, Woolstone, Old Farm Park, Whitehouse, Old Stratford, Newport Pagnell, Tattenhoe, Walnut Tree and Shenley Brook End are all nice estatesđđ»

Visit the Sci-fi museum. Its worth it.
Scrubbuh@reddit
We have a sci-fi museum??

Better to just search the subreddit as this question gets asked 3 times a week
RoastPotatoFanClub@reddit
Thank you for saying this. I am getting so fed up of seeing the same posts again and again on this subject. It is so easy to just check the subreddit to see if anyone else has asked similar (spoiler alert: on this sub, yes, constantly đ« )...
Notagelding@reddit
When you say you are fed up of this question being asked, how does it actually affect you? Do you merely roll your eyes or does it send you into a rage? Genuinely interested!
OfferAdditional1216@reddit
These posts always end up slagging off half of mk. Not so nice if thatâs your home.
SquashyDisco@reddit
Avoid Greenleys, Coffee Hall, Beanhill & Fullers Slade. Conniburrow and Netherfield are questionable.
Scrubbuh@reddit
Netherfield is more of an avoid than coffee hall imo.

minecrafter8699@reddit
MK is the biggest city in buckinghamshire so it makes sense it has the highest crimerate
Silbylaw@reddit
You don't understand the term "per capita".
minecrafter8699@reddit
it doesn't say per capita on the page
Silbylaw@reddit
It doesn't need to. 83 crimes per 1,000 people (per capita) which is 12% higher than the rest of the county.
Toast-Bee@reddit
It does also say âMilton Keynes is among the top 10 safest citiesâ

Misleading Information
Silbylaw@reddit
Facts are never misleading. Facts don't care about your opinions or feelings.
mikexallan@reddit
Facts without context or nuance are often misleading. Youâre also quoting massive loser Ben Shapiro and his merry little band of Conservative morons.
Silbylaw@reddit
You're some sort of SEN. Nowhere did I reference Ben Shapiro. The crime statistics are produced by the government and MK Citizen is the local paper.
mikexallan@reddit
âFacts donât care about your feelingsâ has been Ben Shapiroâs pinned Tweet for about 10 years and is constantly parroted by the far right. Youâre also going around saying people have Special Education Needs, another sad far right insult.
facts can absolutely be misleading depending on how theyâre selected, framed, or presented.
Here are a few ways this happens:
Presenting only certain facts while omitting others that provide necessary context can distort the overall picture.
â Example: âUnemployment dropped 2% last quarterâ (but failing to mention that overall workforce participation also dropped).
How a fact is worded or framed can influence interpretation.
â Example: â90% fat-freeâ vs âcontains 10% fatâ â both true, but evoke different reactions.
Presenting two facts side by side to imply a causal connection where none exists.
â Example: âIce cream sales and drowning incidents both rise in summerâ â a fact, but the correlation is not causal.
A fact without relevant background can be misunderstood.
â Example: âCrime is up 5% this yearâ â but if crime had been at historic lows previously, this might still be lower than average.
Using technically accurate statistics in ways that mislead â through scales, averages, percentages, or data visualizations.
âž»
Bottom line:
A fact on its own is neutral â but how itâs presented can make it misleading. Critical thinking means not just checking if a statement is true, but whether it gives a truthful impression.
Now sit down.
Silbylaw@reddit
Go away you pathetic little troll. The OP asked for information. I provided information from verifiable sources. All you've done is criticise.

Avoid any area around the city center basically and wolverton and lakes estate other than that your good
daledaleedaleee@reddit
Whatâs wrong with Wolverton? I moved from London to Stony Stratford and then bought in Wolverton late last year. I really like living in Wolverton. Itâs not unsafe and has a fair amount of character.
mooghy@reddit
I know 3 people who have been mugged and 1 stabbed over the years in wolverton

Not a clue, I'm afraid. This is just a rule of thumb I've heard often.

Estates with straight roads might be a better comparison

Do a quick search on this subject for those keywords.
You'll quickly find areas that are suggested against moving to, plus people who live there advocate for the same places.
