Collapse Meetup in NYC: June 28th at Central Park
Posted by nommabelle@reddit | collapse | View on Reddit | 27 comments
Come join me, u/letstalkufos, and u/feo_sucio to discuss collapse! Everyone's welcome, whether you're new to collapse and want to learn about it, an expert looking to have in-depth discussions on our predicament, or anything in-between. We'll probably chat about what we think collapse is, how we're navigating it (practically with prepping, financially, mentally, emotionally, etc), observations of collapse (at local or global levels), predictions, resources for further learning (books, podcasts, etc), and more.
Details:
- When: Saturday, June 28th at 3pm
- Where: NYC, Central Park - south part of the Great Lawn
- Rain plan: The Hugh in Midtown East (public food court - open on weekends, though no restaurants will be open)
- Note, alcohol is not allowed in the park. We might hit up a bar after (there may or may not be karaoke, if that's your thing)
- If you have a picnic blanket, it'd be very helpful
Feel free to comment/DM/chat questions or if you need day-of info/help!

Also talk, joke, laugh, and plan stuff. Wish I could come.

If the event isn’t masking recommended or required it isn’t serious about preparing for collapse and considering disabled and vulnerable comrades.
No_Cap_8480@reddit
Do you expect everyone to be masked everywhere for every gathering (even outside) forever? Yes the pandemic has become endemic--at this point anyone immunocompromised should have their own PPE that protects them according to their own risk tolerance.
lavapig_love@reddit
I for one still mask up. If you do, great. Point is that we won't try to tear one off your face as some people have reported done to them.
magomra@reddit
No but I think it should always be in the conversation if you’re trying to create an inclusive space.

I appreciate your concern. However, this is an informal and casual opportunity to socialize with like-minded people in this community. While it is probable that individuals will discuss their own plans for the future, and potential preparation for collapse (or lack thereof), the intent behind this gathering is not instructional or prescriptive in nature. We are not going to be policing anyone. Keep in mind, we are individuals on the internet who volunteer our time and efforts to maintain a respectful and engaged community.
If individuals decide to mask up or maintain social distancing, we are totally fine with that. But in this instance, the personal needs and health considerations will be up to the person. We are not providing masks or mandating them. Thanks for your input.

If I'm able to take off work that day, I'm willing to bring a box of masks - and if not, there are mask blocs that can donate.

Came here to say this. Like I do appreciate that the plan is at least doing it outdoors, that's a step in the right direction.

Rule 1: In addition to enforcing Reddit's content policy, we will also remove comments and content that is abusive or predatory in nature. You may attack each other's ideas, not each other.

Mockery is never a good look.
COVID is still the fourth highest cause of death in the United States. More, a lot of people get long COVID, which fucks you up indefinitely.
Do I mask? No. No one here does, and that makes it too hard for me. It's pathetic, yes. But I strongly support people less pathetic than me who want to preserve their health, particularly since many of them have immune system issues.
magomra@reddit
You aren’t aware of collapse if you’re in denial about the ongoing pandemic. Good luck.
boomaDooma@reddit
Sadly, that is fair comment. All gatherings should consider health risks especially in enclosed spaces.

I lived in NYC for over thirty years, but we fled America in December 2016, or I'd be there.
I miss Central Park, a bit, but we haven't been back even one time since then and I wonder if I ever will.
