2 of my many questionable comfort foods

Peanut butter on green bell pepper, purple cabbage also slaps. Grapes, soy sauce and sticky rice.
Aggressive_Life_8255@reddit
Do grapes and rice go well together?
jivens77@reddit
There's rice pudding with raisins, so I would imagine that they do.
Twitch84@reddit
The texture of dried fruit compliments a rice dish. Fresh grapes are like small water balloons of fruit juice which would surely clash. OP does get points for cutting the grapes, which I imagine would help.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Exactly why I cut them. Kinda like bursting boba for my rice but less messy and better mouthfeel. I like the texture combo.
Sweet-Awk-7861@reddit
Try rice with guava next, it's awesome. (I did it as a teenager and haven't been able to touch any guava again š¤®)Ā
huyvnme@reddit
With sticky rice cooked in coconut water? Maybe. But that went out the window the moment the psychopath added soy sauce
SatsujinJiken@reddit
Have you had mitarashi dango? It has a sweet soy sauce flavour, so it could work...
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
It does, also a fan of mango on sticky rice (I like it with sweet chili sauce, sometimes). I know the execution is the issue here, but sweet and salty is an iconic flavor comboā¦
afortioriii@reddit
Is thatā¦.. it is! GRICE!
kenster1990@reddit
Never tried a bell pepper interesting is it good?
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
I think so, I also recommend crunchy peanut butter on purple cabbage leaves, you make it into a little roll up.
impliedapathy@reddit
Iāve done celery with peanut butter and I donāt even like celery much. I like bell peppers though. Might try that at some point š. The grapes on rice is a hate crime though.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Yeah itās the same thing without the annoying fibers.
Dave-James@reddit
Peel the celery⦠I donāt know why people try to eat those tough stringy skinsā¦
Inside-Ease-9199@reddit
I donāt know why people canāt just chomp through the fiber and feel the need to take time peeling celery, or even separating the stalks from the Apium graveolens var. rapaceum which is also edible. (I love celery and eat it daily) the cholenchyma strands are my favorite. Like natures floss.
Dave-James@reddit
Take celery. Put it between your teeth. Bring your teeth all the way down. Open mouth. Look at the celery, every single part of it has been broken down, look at that disgusting bitter stringy fibers left. Take them over to an expansion pressure gauge and look at the amount of physical force it takes to break those fibersā¦
Aside from their bitter stringy disgustingness? No thanks, it takes like five second to break it in half and peel it right off.
āWhy canāt people just put this disgusting unappetizing thing in their mouth as is without preparing it?ā - you are why so many kids learned to hate vegetables.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Can I be vulnerable??? Never occurred to me. I donāt like celery so I donāt really eat it much, to be fair,
Emreeezi@reddit
Tbf I thought you were meant to eat the corn husk when you eat a tamale
Dave-James@reddit
Doesnāt take much effort, I use a vegetable peeler, but if you forget you can simply break them in half⦠the fibers are so tough they wonāt break where you snapped it, then you can just pull them apart off the top and about half of the hard stringy fibers will be gone.
Granite_0681@reddit
Peppers being a lot more of their own flavor thoughā¦
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
For sure, same with the purple cabbage. I like that tho.
ediks@reddit
I dunno, the grapes and rice might be okay - Iād give it a go. Pineapple rice is great, so iffy like there is some merit there.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Avid pineapple fried rice enjoyer. itās not far off from that flavor profile, imo
Deucalion666@reddit
Isnāt celery, PB, and raisins called Ants on a Log?
CarmenxXxWaldo@reddit
much more popular than celery, jelly and peanuts which is called "nuts on a tampon".
Deucalion666@reddit
Retroencabulatr@reddit
Yes
Thoughtlessthnkr@reddit
BigBadBurito@reddit
That's not how you make rice wine.Ā
sean_incali@reddit
I mean, rice is good with sour, sweet, salty things. So. I guess, sure..
LustfulDemon999@reddit
You're in therapy, right? š¤
Myspacecutie69@reddit
Are you Thai?
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
No, I like a lot of asian food very very much but Iām about 3 generations deep of midwestern. I think that explains this behavior in a different way.
ejayboshart01@reddit
I would try the second one. In my messed up little brain, it doesn't sound that bad.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Your brain isnāt messed up, itās open to seemingly appalling culinary experiences and I think thatās beautiful. Also itās actually really good and I am normal :)

Sandstorm52@reddit
OP if you like fruit and rice check out biryani and polo, some of which do some wonderful things in that department. First image is unhinged tho
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Huge biryani fan, Indian food is one of my faves bc itās so vegetarian friendly. Polo looks like something Iād really like too :) Iām glad you said this bc ppl are extra freaked the rice one. Okay, the grapes arenāt raisin-ed yet⦠texturally itās a take.. but in a way it has been done. Significantly better, albeit,
Ok_Wasabi_9512@reddit
First one is logic. The grape thing, I just can't. Not judging though.š
gooseHonksLoudly@reddit
GRAPE RICE
AcornWholio@reddit
I refuse to believe you do this for the taste. This is a cry for attention, it has to be, because if itās notā¦.WHAT THE HECK IS EVEN YOUR TASTEBUDS?!
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Bored. Raised a vegetarian and Iāve eaten a mostly meat free diet ever since. At some point I just needed to get weird with it. Hope that helps, if it can.
AcornWholio@reddit
Honestlyā¦I respect that. But I also challenge you to get weirder. Peanut butter and peppers? Ha! Try fermented soy bean paste on raw pasta noodles topped with freeze dried raspberries or something. The world is your oyster mushroom.
aliencreative@reddit
If I was a goddess Iād smite you out of here.
AintDyin@reddit
Grapes + rice looks pretty fire ngl. Hopefully cooking it a bit took away 90% of that sweetness
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Grapes are raw, Iām sorry,
AintDyin@reddit
RegisterOk2927@reddit
I mean people put raisins in rice, I see the vision on that one
-catskill-@reddit
The first one made me go "oh, that's kinda weird and quirky"
The second one made me go "dear God what the fuck what kind of sick monster would do this"
Apprehensive_Plan113@reddit
Seems legit. Iād try it at least once lol
PineappIeSuppository@reddit
Saffron rice can come with barberries, which is more on savory side than sweet. Similar concept to your rice dish. Sheer volume of grapes in that dish is somewhat unsettling, however.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
I like an even ratio. I aim for a grape in most bites.
AppUnwrapper1@reddit
Iām sorry but no
Prudent-Incident-570@reddit
I do not have an opinion on the flavor combination (both peppers and peanuts have very versatile flavors), but I have never been fond of foods that mix fats with watery plants - I really do not chocolate covered fresh fruit for the same reason.
Small_Tax_9432@reddit

you know what. I'd try it

I frowned when I saw this. When I scrolled to the second pic, it became a scowl.

JorisJobana@reddit
worjd@reddit
Green pepper already taste like peanut butter to me, gonna try this
slfnflctd@reddit
This is not how you encourage people to eat more of a plant based diet.
That being said, I would take either of these over any meat based dish of questionable origin.
Inevitable_Clock_512@reddit
Rice and grapes feels elegant. Pepper and peanut butter is probably in the flavor bible. This guys cookin
NiceCunt91@reddit
You sure you're not pregnant?
WrongColorCollar@reddit
For some reason the second one seems more normal than the first. Odd, when that's pretty close to celery & PB
nnogales@reddit
At least you are aware
YoureSpecial@reddit
Are you pregnant?
Twitch84@reddit
I'm intrigued by your peanut butter dish, but not your grape dish. I find that grapes only go with other fruits. I can't even do grapes with yoghurt or muesli, and especially not rice.
Kitsupire@reddit
You preggo?
justaddvinegar@reddit
Peppers and peanut butter sounds good. I mean, we dip celery and carrots in PB, why not other veggies? Lots of veg heavy dishes are flavored with peanut sauce or oil. It's not that odd.
The second one though... questionable.
Such_Hurry8541@reddit
Uhh I don't like green peppers, but I'd put PB on other colours. And grapes (sweet) + soy sauce (salt+umami) + rice (rice) sounds good, I also eat like 70% carbs though so maybe we're both biased?
Eis_ber@reddit
Do you put chili oil on the grape don?
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Soy sauce, sometimes I do fresh mango and sweet chili sauce instead.
Achaeminuz@reddit
I thought the first one was avocado slices with peanut butter.
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Well that would be gross
Possible_Abalone_846@reddit
A textural nightmare.Ā
Minervavv@reddit
#2 left me speechless.

Imagine what food sin Iād be capable of if I was⦠Iāve been eating like this my whole life, though.
SatsujinJiken@reddit
I love oranges and mangos with really spicy ground up chili peppers!
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Yes! My spice tolerance isnāt that high but Iāve been using tamarind chutney in place of soy sauce occasionally bc it has a nice zing. Fruit is so versatile and ppl shame me, like peach mango salsa never happened. Or fruit and tajin. Just looked up what mitarashi dango is and it seems delicious.
Molotov-Girl33@reddit
At first I read the caption (it's 4am, I'm not in my right mind) and thought it was all one dish. So I said "oh, ok it's a twist on an Asian dish, almost like a peanut sauce type of vibe" then I realized it was two different dishes. I could not have been any more wrong.
belaGJ@reddit
it is more like discomfort food.
numbskullerykiller@reddit
It's so weird it seems fake
ch0kez3ro@reddit (OP)
Nope, I started doing peanut butter on purple cabbage originally bc my friend put me on to it. You schmear it on the leaf really thin and then roll it up. Needed more crunch so now I put it on bell pepper. Just like to consume my vegetables like a dog being fed a pill ig. The other combo is a long standing fave, Iām a fruit sushi roll fan. Itās just a low effort version.
Sice_VI@reddit
I'm calling this dish - Green terror.
DeadAndBuried23@reddit
Not really any different from putting peanut butter on celery. Same mostly-water crunch.
extality@reddit
Well questionable is fucking putting it mildly
Regallybeagley@reddit
First one not so bad.. second pic is mind fuckery levels of nope
Obvious_Release_1@reddit
I see you take great pleasure in your own suffering. Fucking mad.
GreenThunder18@reddit
Honestly anything with a big scoop of peanut butter tastes good cause the peanut butter almost always takes over
Supper_Champion@reddit
I mean, I can see this. Bell peps are pretty mild in flavour. PB pairs well with sweet, and also crispy textures. This isn't too far off of PB with celery or apple.
I'm not saying I would purposely combine these two things, but I see how it's pretty benign.
