I mean at least Krillin was capable enough that the story had to bend over backwards to make him less relevant. Toriyama gives him an attack that can slice people regardless of power level so of course Krillin never uses a Solar Flare/Destruco Disc combo to make short work of Recoome or Frieza himself.
Also, he is the strongest human and got 18 so he made it out all right.

I feel George Constanza is a better example than most of those.
In a few episodes he was unemployed and doing nothing but hanging with his friends but made it through the other side by a wacky self-made live philosophy(Do the opposite!).

As a huge NHK fan, I think an important takeaway is that you can empathize with Satou even if you’ve never been a NEET. Having a job, but still staying in your room all the time, not making friends, getting addicted to games or the internet, and feeling like you’re wasting your life while still not making meaningful change is a universal feeling.

Who's also his only (actual) friend that has to leave eventually. Anon's right on this one though, finding other people that enjoy your niche culture (let alone living next door) is a blessing
Never got romantically with Misaki, got manipulated by her for a majority of the novel and she only stuck with him as a coping mechanism because he's that big of a loser. I don't think they even got together after getting their emotional baggage out.
Would recommend reading the novel or watching the anime, it's an eye-opening experience to anyone slightly socially inept.

I feel like at least in the anime it was implied that Satarou's and Misaki's relationship kinda turned a bit romantic at the very end and that their relationship would continue heading in that direction.
But regardless that is after Satarou has started becoming less of a loser, actually working a real job and supporting himself instead of just being a leach.
