Rtx 3080 and ryzen 7 5800xt struggle

What would be Normal performance for a rtx 3080 paired with a ryzen 7 5800xt and 16gb of corsair vengeance ddr4? My pc struggles to hold a consistent 120fps in Fortnite on the lowest possible setting with direct x12 at 1440p

I’m building my pc with your exact cpu and a 3080 ultra 10gb how was performance on it ?
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Ngl man ive went to a complete different build its been a while but depends on your monitor i was playing at 1440 and it ran everything fine if your at 1080p it should be a great combo
Super_Standard_@reddit
What’s a monitor you would recommend I’m looking for one in the market

Hmmm, I've got a 5800XT and an RTX 2070 and I'm usually always clearing 200 FPS in really heavy scenarios. Most of the time running at the capped framerate 235. I play on 1080P with everything turned to low or off. Did a ton of configurations to achieve this though. Not quite sure how 1440p would fare, but I'm interested to try it out for fun.

Ngl man its no longer a issue ive moved on to a 5090 and a 9800x3d😭

Wanna sell me your old shit lol
KiwuND@reddit
The new dx12 performance mode (performance mode; not legacy performance mode) lowers cpu bottleneck. You should test it out
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
I honestly dont even play fortnite anymore😭
No_Protection4395@reddit
Did OP ever fix it? Its prime day on amazon and im thinking of getting a 50% off 5800xt and a used 3080
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
I did also end up going to a 3090 fe and still have no issues with anything so should still do great with a 3080
No_Protection4395@reddit
Alright thanks a lot! Will be using ddu!
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Yeah just make sure you get the right ones gone and if it is still sluggish after give it a day or 2 to settle and it should do fine
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Yeah i ended up just doing a fresh install of the drivers after using ddu to make sure all amd drivers were gone it took a day or 2 of running it to get settled but sense then ive had 0 issues out of it great budget cpu
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
When you increase the settings do you see a significant decrease in fps
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
No drop in fps it stays basically the same just stutters a little bit
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
I figured. Sounds like your 3080 has more to offer but your 5800 xt is doing all it can
Personally I’d be happy as long as I wasn’t dropping too much below 60 on any title
You’ll have to upgrade cpu if you want more fps in Fortnite. But I promise you the difference between 120 and 160 fps is insignificant
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
That doesnt make sense tho the 3600 i had was being pushed and is preforming the exact same as the new 5800xt that is not being pushed?
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
If there’s no change in fps after increasing graphics settings then either your cpu is holding the 3080 back, ram is holding it back, or you’ve accidentally capped your fps in Fortnite
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
I dont see a place were this cpu would hold back the 3080 im gonna try newer ram also
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Well there actually some other things to keep in mind too
How many watts is your PSU rated for?
How much ram do you have?
What are you using to read your fps?
Is v sync turned off?
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Psi is rated for 750 if im not mistaken ram is 16bg ddr4 im getting 32 soon to test for fps reading fortnite itself and nzxt monitor and vsync is off
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Have you activated pbo
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
But i also cant find any specific drivers for a 5800xt so i might have the wrong ones idk
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Eh you can try wiping all drivers and starting from scratch. But the drivers will make you crash more than anything. I’m not sure it’s gonna get you the extra 30-40 fps that you should be getting. Worth a try tho
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Yeah idk i just really really really dont wanna do a fresh install of windows😭😭ill have to do so much to set everything back up
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Try downloading msi after burner and read your FPS that way. I’m curious on whether your not you’re getting an accurate number
What so strange is your getting a stable 120 fps. What is your gpu and cpu utilization? How much ram are you using while playing Fortnite?
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Thats the issue is i can hold a stable 120fps i keep it capped cause thats what my refresh rate is set at but even if i set it up or to unlimited it stays around that area cpu utilization normally is around 60 to 70 percent and gpu normally stay around 50 or below and normally about 12 out of the 16gb of ram im gonna try a fresh install of Fortnite see if maybe that helps
Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Set your refresh rate to the refresh rate of your monitor. So pick the max option in Fortnite
Make sure the refresh rate of your monitor is maxed out in windows setting as well. Type monitor in the search bar and it should pop up
Make sure your fps isn’t capped in Fortnite
Then I’m telling you, download msi after burner. You’ll have to watch a vid on how to set it up, but then we’ll now for sure how many fps you’re actually getting

Vivid_Promise9611@reddit
Did you ever figure it out
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Last i remember i did ill have to recheck when i get home
tybuzz@reddit
Are you sure you have the GPU drives clean installed? It should do significantly better than that in fortnite and definitely over 180 fps or so. Lowering quality settings will increase CPU bottlenecking, since as fps goes up, the CPU has to work harder to keep up with the GPU.
Make sure you're not experiencing significant CPU bottlenecking, but it shouldn't be bad.
https://www.pcworld.com/article/1955495/pc-bottlenecks-cpu-or-cpu-limiting-gaming-performance.html
Check GPU and CPU temp to make sure they're not overheating and thermal throttling. HWINFO64 is good for that.
Also check for any background programs, such as antivirus or software updates using a lot of CPU in task manager.
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Im gonna do a fresh install of windows the gpu drivers are fine i just got the pc not even 2 weeks ago and did a fresh install but i just put the cpu in a few days ago and no bottlenecking cpu usage stay around 70ish percent and pretty cool never once getting over 70 but gpu usage stays very low regardless of setting i tried that to maybe see if it would push the gpu some more but no luck on that im gonna go with maybe still having the cpu drivers from the 3600 cpu that just got took out of the pc i did a “reinstall” of windows but i think im just gonna go with a fresh install
tybuzz@reddit
Something is definitely wrong if GPU usage is low. Do a clean install of windows and make sure your motherboard bios is updated.
Install the latest GPU drivers and chipset drivers once you have windows installed.
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
I made sure bios was updated it had to be for the cpu and a pulled the cmos battery to reset it after to and im gonna try and reinstall all drivers and see were i can get from there
tybuzz@reddit
Just makes sure you run DDU to completely wipe out all gpu drivers and software to be safe. Simply reinstalling using the nvidia installer does not always fix it .
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Yeah thats what im gonna do once i get home im at work currently so cant really do much atm
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Cause i held a better fps on my pc with a 3060 and a i5-12400f and that just doesn’t really make sense
tybuzz@reddit
Try a clean install of the GPU drivers after running DDU to wipe them.
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
Ill give it a try when i get home like i said i dont care to have above 120fps just want a somewhat consistent fps
TalkWithYourWallet@reddit
No PC gets a consistent framerate in fortnite
It's plagued with shader compilation and traversal stutters that no PC can get around
Consoles have the most consistent framerate in fortnite
Bitter-Freedom-1280@reddit (OP)
I understand it not holding exactly 120 thats not the issue but it wont even reach up to 144 fps take it thats not what i want but being the setup and setting it should atleast reach it
