O’reilly Online Portal, is it worth it?

Hello there, I have been seeing O’rielly offering on their education portal a subscription plan to check books and courses on demand

They include books from other publishers like Packt and No Starch Press which honestly caught my attention even more

Has anyone subscribed to it? Is it worth the investment? Can you download books and have them as pdf/epub? (I don’t mind it being DRMed since I want them to be loaded on my Kindle)

I pay for it, and love it. I don't like the price though. I am getting it cheaper than current rates, but only because I've had it forever and they don't pass price increases to existing customers.

I get OReilly and PluralSight for free through work. The books and even some videos are solid

Oreilly actually acquires videos from Udemy instructors. Most in their streaming videos are good but some have poor instructor style or video production quality. But between LinkedIn and OReilly for videos, I think OReilly's the better deal. LinkedIn's more consistent with video quality and learning material presentation.

I get free subscriptions in work to things like O'Reilly, LinkedIn Learning, Pluralsight, etc. O'Reilly is good if you learn well from books. Personally I prefer learning from videos, and think Pluralsight is better in this regard. However, if I want to learn something in depth, I think specific courses on Udemy are better, especially those courses which are updated often. Books are set in stone, so what you're learning may not always be the most up to date. However, if you learn well from books, O'Reilly has a massive collection. You can't download as a PDF/epub from the site, but you can download the books to read within the O'Reilly app on Android and iOS. There are supposedly some chrome extensions and tools which allow you to download the books as PDFs to bypass the rights restrictions, but to be honest if you're going to do that anyway, you might just consider downloading the books from illegitimate sources, as pretty much all the books are available from the usual pirated ebook places. That's a moral decision on your part - subscribing to O'Reilly means at least the authors are getting, I assume, a cut of the subscription fee if the books are accessed.
