UlPT request: Neighbor reported my urban garden
Posted by sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 74 comments
My neighbor reported my potted pepper plants that I have on the easement. I also have tomato, sunflower, dill and wildflower planted in the ground. The ordinance officer says I have to clean it up. What are you suggestions at unethically pissing off my neighbor?
Legitimate_Nature499@reddit
So they literally reported you because it looked bad? Insane. Neighbors.
Pleasant_Reward1203@reddit
nothing. That's city property that people pay taxes to keep up. You don't get to commandeer public property paid for with public funds. You were in the wrong. Just be an adult, admit it and move on.
ClairLestrange@reddit
Wtf is wrong in the US? Why the hell are pepper plants in a pot a problem???
Also liquid ass, piss disks, bang his dad
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
This was the complaint "Urban farming on a residential street Owner sat approximately 30 planters beside the sidewalk It's an eyesore and does not fit with the overall aesthetic of the neighborhood! Owner is ruining city property by digging up the area to garden in the front Attracts rodents and other pests to the area Please have it removed I"
AbruptMango@reddit
So did you put planters out or did you dig up the ground?
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
I put pots with peppers and herbs. The grass was dug up and replaced with dirt from dte when they replaced the gas line. Sunflowers, dill, wildflowers, and tomato are in the ground.
Extension-Invite6088@reddit
City Employee here, we genuinely don't care if some harmless plantings go out in front o your house, unfortunately (and for good reasons) this IS against the rules in most places, and when a snitchy neighbour reports it we do have to be seen to act. You have no idea the man hours and taxpayers money these kinds of people waste on this and other shit. Don't get me started on illegal swings in street trees. Goddammit Boomer Karen just die already!
limellama1@reddit
Freeze Roundup in an ice cube tray, use a slingshot to fire those cubes into random spots in neighbor's yard. Will take weeks to months to get anything to grow back in the areas where the ice cubes hit
_ell0lle_@reddit
Don’t punish the ground/environment to hurt the neighbor! Seed balls of mint however is a brilliant move.
limellama1@reddit
A monoculture lawn isn't really an environment worth worrying about. Do see your point though.
megabass713@reddit
Why not just use the water softening salt or saltwater pool salt. The big chunky kind.
Sling it out right before it's about to rain.
Able_Calligrapher186@reddit
Doesn't work as good
megabass713@reddit
Ah, duly noted.
Able_Calligrapher186@reddit
Ya, nothing comes close to cancerous round-up.
limellama1@reddit
Salt would wash out with a significant rain, and some plants are salt resistant to a point. Roundup will make the dirt chemically barren to all plants
megabass713@reddit
Duly noted.
dirtydopedan@reddit
Does the city have an ordinance against doing this in your yard? Or did you do this on the city property, like on the road right of way?
Negative-Ad-6805@reddit
Sounds fucking ugly, maybe move to the back yard or relocate somewhere t you have the latitude todo this.

The holy trinity of ulpt.
ihadagoodone@reddit
Dill... Seriously.
Put that in a pot and keep it from spreading.
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
I don't mind if it spreads, and it spreads when in a pot too. It brings it beautiful butterflies
No-Worldliness3349@reddit
Have a friend he won’t recognize write “YOU SUCK” in big fat letters on his lawn with Round up.
NOTRadagon@reddit
Something you can do, but IDK if it is worth for the sub, Items needs:
Wild flower seeds, more native, the better.
Slingshot
Slingshot the seeds into his yard. Watch as his perfectly manicured lawn is taken over by random flowers.
Then, you can complain to the same group he did about how his yard is attracting rodents, and doesn't meet the aesthetic of the neighborhood.
I-choose-treason@reddit
Litter his yard with poison ivy seeds. Every few days, sling a few his way while no one's watching. The removal is expensive as hell and requires people in hazmat suits to come get rid of it
YoItsThatOneDude@reddit
the answer is always piss discs
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
Yes sir, they really like to sprawl out
Leaf-Stars@reddit
I would escalate. Plant some beans, corn, watermelon and pumpkins.
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
Great idea
Leaf-Stars@reddit
You ever seen a zucchini plant left to its own devices?
RandallSG@reddit
Winter Rye has been my "go to" in the past. Live in Texas where St. Augustine grass is the norm, it largely goes dormant in the winter season (we don't really have winter).
I put a large "U" and "T", in a A&M graduates front lawn. If placed on a lawn in the early fall, it shows up as some nice green grass in a sea of brown a few months later.
Best... it will continue to do this for several years. The neighbor in question eventually overseeded his entire lawn in winter rye.
Tyrannosapien@reddit
List neighbor's car for sale dirt cheap on FB Marketplace, neighbor's address. Schedule as many as possible to meet at the same time. Be outside cleaning your garden when they arrive.
Important to have a friend logged in and chatting with the "buyers" while you are visibly not at a computer.

Bamboo and kudzu seeds. Every time.
ConsistentCoyote3786@reddit
Kudzu or bamboo
Cuneus-Maximus@reddit
coat their entire lawn / garden with catnip and mint seeds.
Able_Calligrapher186@reddit
Depending on the state, it might b illegal, plant mary-jane. Even if it's legal you can only plant so many. Plant a Fuck - Ton.
TaterTotJim@reddit
The only thing is weed seeds are not that cheap.
Able_Calligrapher186@reddit
Ya they are ... When you grow plants they're free
TaterTotJim@reddit
True, I run clones so I kind of forgot about that lol.
qlionp@reddit
Bug-a-salt guns might be able to fire seeds
-SQB-@reddit
Just ice cubes with seeds in 'em.
Freeze the seeds dry first. Then make ice cubes, but fill them only half way. When frozen, put a few frozen seeds on top, then fill all the way up.
Just lob a few at the time into the neighbour's garden.
Mint will spread like crazy. Catnip might be fun. Cannabis too.
disturbednadir@reddit
And report them regularly for having a garden.
myusername1111111@reddit
I just like the idea of stoned cats throughout the garden.
northernpikeman@reddit
Ignore citation. Tell the nighbour that the city visited and okayed your garden and they should kindly f off.
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
I'm not exactly ignoring the citation, but I'm just moving the plants on my front lawn instead of the easement. I called and got the okay to do this from the building inspector. The inspector mentioned construction debris on the roof and lawnmowers stored in the back, so I'm removing the debris and condensing and putting a tarp over the mowers, which was the inspectors idea. (I fix mowers for work). The neighbors are gonna be pissed off enough that it's still there and just moved back about ten feet. Inspector said nothing is supposed to be on the easement. Fuck the neighbors. That's all the revenge I need, just move the plants and move on. Gonna dig up some of the front grass to create an area for the sunflowers + tomato and put wood chips down.
TheSunflowerSeeds@reddit
Sunflower seeds are incredibly rich sources of many essential minerals. Calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and copper are especially concentrated in sunflower seeds. Many of these minerals play a vital role in bone mineralization, red blood cell production, enzyme secretion, hormone production, as well as in the regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle activities.

Pizza thrown on his lawn. Nightly. The pests will love him. To save money, buy cheapo frozen pizzas, or make from scratch with leftovers from the fridge, as the Italians intended it.
kjoloro@reddit
Can you get a pollinator certification or something? Not UIPT but it would piss them off.

Freeze beef stock into cubes. Surreptitiously deploy those onto the neighbors lawn, every dog, small mammal and otherwise will decide their lawn needs new holes.

Brick thru the window. Every window. Car Windows. house windows. Throw a brick thru the AC pump. Cut down a tree so that it lands on their house (use an electric one for stealth).
Manufacture an alibi and wear a disguise.
moldyjim@reddit
In a totally unrelated note,
I just spent a couple of days digging up a patch of creeping buttercup plants. Apparently they spread quickly via roots and runners. A big pain in the arse.
Glad that I looked them up beforehand, seems they are toxic if eaten and can also cause contact dermatitis! Chickens, goats and especially horses are in danger of eating it and it can kill them.
MsGozlyn@reddit
So pretty
New-IncognitoWindow@reddit
Repot the plants in the same place.
Critical_Cat_8162@reddit
He doesn’t like rodents? Fish. Stay out of sight of the camera, but after dark, throw a bunch of fish or fish guts in the yard. It will stink and attract rodents.
dafrog84@reddit
Put the fish straight into a blender, then a Miracle-Gro sprayer. Spray your whole yard every day! Not only will you have the greenest lawn it was smell horrible all summer long. Put the plants in pots on your property. You'll not want to share any of it's fruits with your crappy neighbors.
sadsacreggaejunkie@reddit (OP)
