Never made these but I’ve eaten my fair share of pb&j and my guess is that the jelly needs that cup where the yolk used to be. It’d run off and make a mess if you put the pb first

Fair, I considered that was the reason. I think since pb has so much more structural integrity, you could spread it in a way that creates a smaller cup and dollop the jelly into that. Thinking about how pb doesn’t stick to jelly, imagining having to whack the spoon or scoop with your finger to dollop: oof, sensory nightmare.
