We defrosted the freezer yesterday. It was new four years ago but overfilling it and spilling ice cubes trays mean that it's barely been useable for most of that time and the drawers are broken from shoving them in and out. The ice cube shelf itself had been buried inside one big mass of ice for almost all that time. It really wasn't even that bad - took about 2 hours start to finish and most of that only involved refilling bowls with boiling water and sitting back on the sofa. So satisfying at the end to pull off the last big block of ice in the ice cube tray in one go after the rest of it, bloody massive.

Agree with this, I just hang my clothes carefully when drying them, IE T shirts hung by the tops of the shoulders, etc, so that they dry crease free. The only exception are suit shirts etc, so my iron only comes out a few times a year. Once you give up you realise it's almost entirely unnecessary!

ironing is nostalgic for me as I remember my mum ironing with the telly on and a cup of tea and she loved it. I don’t iron enough (rarely ever) but i don’t know how people don’t even own an iron or board because there’s always somethings that need doing like a smart shirt or tie or skirt i don’t do it enough but i need the board and iron just for those!

Got a broken shelf in the fridge door that holds the milk. 9 time out of ten it stays on when you open the door other wise it falls off and what ever is on the shelf spills across the floor. Been like that 5 years. I've even got the epoxy resin to fix it last week and still haven't.

mine did this. it's currently in peices on a shelf. can i 3D print a whole new part to replace the milk shelf and have it repaced in less than a day? yes. do i give enough of a fuck to? nope. don't drink that much milk so a 1L bottle on the normal shelf is fine haha

My kitchen door spindle broke about four years ago. I bought another handle set and didn't realise spindles came in different lengths. A colleague very kindly cut it down for me, but not quite enough. I have neither a) asked them to cut it down again (they would, very happily) nor b) bought another handle set (which I can easily afford). I just can't shut the kitchen door, which is fine.

Before I had my daughter I scrubbed my house upside down and in every nook and cranny. She’s 15 months old now and it dawned on me the other day that there’s some things I haven’t cleaned since I was heavily pregnant with her… Mostly things in the kitchen! I haven’t moved my cooker, washing machine or fridge since my daughter has been alive, nor have my cupboards been emptied and deep cleaned 😬

I move my fridge about once a year. I've never moved the washing machine - I work on the completely true excuse that I have a tiny tiny kitchen and there isn't actually anywhere to move it *to* so you could clean behind it. The space will get cleaned when it finally kicks the bucket and has to be replaced.

I have had a new Yale lock ready to install in the back door, sitting in the kitchen drawer for 2 years. It would take me fifteen minutes to do, and it would be good to get it done as the one key we do have for the current lock is rusted into the lock. If it snaps, we are fucked. My garden is pure gravel with a stone path around the edge and middle. I've got weeds sprouting up THROUGH THE ROCKS... Pisses me off seeing them, do I de-weed? No, I just stare at them... I put off any cleaning for months, I just didn't feel like it and my partner wouldn't do it - they just ignore everything so I thought what's the point. I've just had 13 days leave and the first week was cleaning the house top to bottom. It nearly killed me and by the end I was rage cleaning. I'm so pleased that I've finished it and I could just enjoy the last week. I'm now committed (ha, let's see how long it lasts) to cleaning when I finish work. The thing I really don't like doing fof some reason is putting the bins out. It takes 2 minutes.

We had that same situation… I decided one day to just do one hour of sorting once a week. I was really strict to begin with. Setting a timer on my phone. As more stuff got shifted, I got more motivated and ended up ignoring the timer, and doing it till I felt I had done enough for that day. The absolute thrill when I finished it was amazing, 🙌🏼

Replacing the slats in the bed frame. The slats are fine, but the plastic brackets that hold them in place have perished. Every once in a while we're woken up in middle of the night as another slat clatters onto the floorboards. I ordered replacement brackets online, and they've been sitting there in the hall for about two years now. It's like a game of chicken- will we fall through the bed frame before I spend 20 minutes replacing the slats? Part of me wants that to happen so I can say 'You see? THIS is why we should have got a divan'. (I wanted a divan).

My parents’ hall door has a broken lock. It hasn’t had a functioning latch for about 30 years. They’ve been wedging it shut with folded up envelopes since the mid 90s. I once asked my dad why he’d never fixed it, and he said locks are difficult and he’d have to strip the paint off etc etc. asked him why he hadn’t just added something else, and he said “you know, that never once occurred to me”. It’s not super simple but there’s the intersecting lines of time period and simplicity

Urgh I'm doing mine in stages. Problem is it also needs demolishing and replacing and somewhere to put everything during sorting that out. Some idiot stuck a lean to green house on the side years ago and used all non sized everything. That's now collapsing inwards. Repairing it would not be cost effective and they put it on bare earth then tiled for i have absolutely no idea what reason. So that's all cracked now too and a hazard. Need to get in a self assembly container so it's good indefinitely and can actually get onsite. Rip everything out and start again. Lots of expensive and/or sentimental stuff in there so it can't get wrecked. My answer is actually taking stuff to the tip tho. Have done so much replacing bits its built up to a silly degree. Don't want to be that house with all the crap in the garden so it's not on show but it's not great.
