Need help with a PC build

Hi All
Need help completing a build. Ideally want to keep it below £1600 inc monitor. got keyboard and mouse. Want to play at 1440p. Games we will be playing are TLOU 1 & 2, Monster Hunter, Doom (the new one) etc. Looking for as much longevity as possible. I have started buying but stuck on Monitor, SSD and the Graphics Card. So far spent just under £500 (call it £500 as its pence under). Case I am looking at is the Montech King 95 pro but currently pricey and happy to hear alternatives. SSD need a 2tb really which will be boot and storage. Will add to it later. I have been flip flopping too much and keep changing my mind on parts. Monitor Wise I have narrowed it down to 2 but happy for suggestions as only seem to get 2 recommended which is either Gigabyte M27Q at £180 or the AOC Q27G3XMN at £300. I am in the UK so UK prices please. GPU - I have been looking at 5070 at £495, 5070 TI at £729 or 9070 XT at £660. Aware the 5070 is not going to give me as much longevity but trying different combos it would need to be in the mix. I have no brand loyalty to either AMD or Nvidia on graphics. Reason I am not looking at 9070 non xt is that its £580. I dont think that's good value when you can get an XT for £80 more looking at reviews.

If you like the look and features of the King 95 Pro, go with the 9070XT.

If you wan to squeeze in the 5070 Ti, you could go with a cheaper Montech case that is more of the standard front to back airflow case, with 4 included fans and fan hub.

JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
Which would you go with?
AMPCgame@reddit
I would go with the 9070XT and the King 95 Pro. Its just personal preference on the case, but you can also swivel the fans to front intake if you wanted to experiment with airflow, and the case comes in Black/White/Blue and Red, which is a nice choice to have. Even though the 5070ti is a little better, for the types of games you like playing, the 9070XT is more than capable, they're both good cards with decent longevity prospects. If you're not going to be chasing the best possible framerate in competitive online games I wouldn't be concerned about the difference-and that would require a more expensive monitor anyway. For single-player story, open world, RPG etc., you'll have nice smooth performance at 1440p.

Thanks, I think competitive gaming is not one I tend to do. Dead by Daylight is about as competitive as it gets for me.
AMPCgame@reddit
I'm pretty much the same, I stick with the single player stuff. That setup should give you great performance, the only real performance issues that could be expected are from games that are poorly optimised on release, but there's no sense in worrying about that.

Thank you for your help with this. I am now going deal hunting lol. If I can cut cost enough then Might be able to get the best of all worlds or just spend on games. Would you say the Monitor is ok? Must admit I am not much of a monitor buff but do appreciate a good screen. Also the SSD you chose, is that the minimum you would go for?
AMPCgame@reddit
The monitor looks alright, most of the reviews seem positive. I don't have any experience with Gigabyte monitors to be honest. Anything 1440p, IPS, at 144Hz+ would suit your build well. Just have a look at reviews and try and buy from somewhere with a good reputation for customer service, because every monitor model will have a D.O.A unit here and there. For the drives, you could go lower. Black is the higher end of the WD lineup, it goes: green, blue and black. Blue is a good all-rounder, I've been running a 2TB WD Blue for a while now with no issues. You could also go for something by Kingston or Crucial, depending on what deals you find. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/dQc8HW

Found a good deal on this monitor, msi mag 274qrfw, £132.48. might be able to get the 5070 ti with the build. 9070 XT I looked at reviews and would definitely be looking at 3 specific models which are the Nitro +, Hellhound or Steel Legend Dark. All are higher than the £660 mark making them close to 5070ti territory especially as I like the Zotac Gaming solid at £729. let me know your thoughts on the monitor?
AMPCgame@reddit
Yeah the monitor looks good, if the 9070XTs are close to the price of the 5070ti, then you may as well go for the 5070ti.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
I was very surprised as I saw on youtube the rrp or msrp whatever is supposed to be £569 for the XT and £729 for the 5070TI. Even at £629 I would get the 9070 XT. however there's only 60 quid between them both.
AMPCgame@reddit
Yeah, availability issues have shot up the prices of the 9070/9070XT everywhere. On paper the 9070XT is the better deal, but it just depends on whatever local pricing turns out to be. Here in Ireland the 9070XTs are around €900/£750+ and the 5070 TIs are about €1000/840+.

Hi, sorry I have another question. Am I going to be able to vertically mount a gpu in this build?
AMPCgame@reddit
No problem. You won't be able to do a vertical mount natively. You would need to buy a bracket to convert the PCIe slots to vertical position and a PCIe rise cable, or get a kit that has both, like this: https://www.montechpc.com/vgm2
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
No problem, I can do that. Question is will it fit? Physically that is
AMPCgame@reddit
Yeah it should fit no problem. The King 95 Pro has space for huge GPUs. So as long as the card is under 400mm, which is extremely likely, and 3 slots or lower, it'll work on the bracket in the case.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
https://youtu.be/Vc1MD0bbcoE?si=18M-FOFvkf7Li6l1 if you go to about 38 mins in. My concern is gpu being right up against cpu cooler
AMPCgame@reddit
I see what you mean. Going by his video, his card was 140mm wide and resting against the cooler. You can check the width of cards on the manufacturers sites. If you look on PCPP, and filter the 5070 Ti by lowest price and look at the first handful of GPUs that appear, you can see what comes up and check the sites for them. So the Zotac Gaming Solid Core has a width of 116mm, the Zotac Gaming Solid has a width of 121mm, the Zotac Gaming Solid SFF has a width of 116mm, and the MSI Ventus 3X OC has a width of 121mm. All of these would leave a bit of room so that the two parts aren't touching. It's mainly the higher end 4090/5080/5090 cards that are very wide, or cards with overkill cooling which are more than likely overpriced anyway.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
Yep, was looking at the 9070 xt taichi or palit gamerock 5070 ti
AMPCgame@reddit
Yeah, looks like you'll have issues with those cards, there's still a good variety to choose from for the vertical mounting.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
I wonder if a bigger case will help with this such as msi magpano 100
AMPCgame@reddit
The issue for this exact vertical mounting is not the size of the case, but the combo of a very wide card with an Air Cooler. ATX motherboards and PCI slots share the same standard, so regardless of the case the vertical mounted wide card will sit at the same height, touching the cooler. So to solve the issue, the choice is to use a different card or a different cooler.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
Hhhmmm. Food for thought. Thank you so much for your help
AMPCgame@reddit
No problem.
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
I'll try and upload a pic when the build is done
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
I have been sucked in by pretty cards lol
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
ouch
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
Choices I have at this point are as follows.
RTX 5070 £495
RX 9070 £560
RX 9070 XT £660 (model I like is 670)
RTX 5070 TI £729
not sure if the price justifies the purchases looking at game charts. Seems Graphics card prices are a bit silly
JustFingers69@reddit (OP)
I have found this, whats your thoughts, open box?

Might go WD Blue. Looks a good price for that one. Ill keep checking for deals but might bite on a GC before the end of the week

Too bad you already purchased the CPU since it will be badly balanced for the 5070TI or the 9070XT. Monitor-wise, I have the M32Q and I'm happy with it, so I can only recommend Gigabyte.
