Can't wait to install it to my retro system.. amazing that the even have a whole book included about Linux know-how!

I think this was after Slackware 96 which was my first Linux.

Yes. SuSE 7.1 was released in 2001
mycroft72@reddit
That was my first distro. Well, if you exclude trying to run Minux on an Amiga with a borrowed 2nd floppy drive, and no HDD. it was on about 15 floppies. I think I only tried it once.

Do you still have the Slackware box?
ryguymcsly@reddit
I downloaded it into floppies from a BBS, which was the style at the time...

I have full copy of S.u.S.E. 6.3 and a light versión of 6.1 (single cdrom) Was the distro that made me to like Linux in the 90's

SuSE was my first distro <3

I have very fond memories of installing SuSE 6.3 from a similar box, when it was new. It was a great OS, and YaST was so adequate back then…

I heartily approve, it's funny to think Debian was only 2.2(Potato! and bootable as opposed to earlier releases) at this point in time.
Somewhat before this in the 90s, I bought a "RedHat Bible" which included two CDs with the os. It also had a guaranteed "lifetime" support subscription for RedHat Linux!!! Out of curiosity, many years later I tried to actually get support from RedHat, and the help desk person told me that the recent releases had made so many changes, that it was essentially a different operating system and I could get community support from the Fedora distro, if that was really what I was looking for.
I've looked askance at both RedHat and "Lifetime subscriptions" ever since.

Nice story! In the 90s I think they released a new Red Hat version every year, so "Lifetime" support would actually mean one year support, until the next version came along. It's a very different idea of "lifetime" compared to what we expect today!

The redhat bibles where the best books ever written
DeepDayze@reddit
I remember the early Red Hat CD's as have a couple of them. In addition did have a Debian 2.2 CD too and perhaps I'm gonna dig out that one again.

Tomorrow I will take a photo of my SuSE Linux 5.2 and post it here.

Cool! Love to see that

I miss big juicy computer manuals..
ceojp@reddit
I was more of a Mandrake man around this time, but SuSE is cool too.
AdmiralAK@reddit
I had this at one point. I think I still have my pin somewhere 😀
Huffers1010@reddit
I don't believe it. There's no documentation for Linux. That's half the point.

I've got 6.4 here, similar box.
BrakkeBama@reddit
Me too. Bought 6.4 retail boxed in a book store in 2000 to get rid of Windows. Also got two large Tux stuffed toy dolls for me and a gf back when.

I was stuck with pretty limited dial up, living in the Med at the time. I loved SuSE because there was so much on the CDs.
DeepDayze@reddit
I got this CD in the back of a magazine. Good times!
BlindmanUF@reddit
Oh! I think that’s the version I had back in the day. So cool
Think-Difficulty7596@reddit
That's good. Enjoy it.
