People of places that flood! What is the best little bit of kit you have for keeping the gross water out?

And are you also totally baffled by people buying houses on new estates called “brokenbanks field” or similar who then go all shocked pikachu when their gardens flood? I’ve got the little slot in gate things and I love it. Use it in hot weather to keep my dog in with the door open too. So many uses!

They’re building on a low lying bit of land in my town that has always been known as The Swamp. It floods every winter without fail. Everyone has their popcorn ready.

It’ll be time to invest in a paving company too then! The ones near me people keep pacing over their boggy gardens (if you can’t be part of the solution make things worse!) and the groundworks guy is raking it in

I thought that wheelie bins of which I have three, empty, lain flat with the lids open, would hold a fair amount of water. That's when water is rising from a particular direction. Imagine banks of them in a street across the road. For rain you put them upright with the lids open. You can get commercial shrink wrap, wider and stronger than kitchen wrap. So you can wrap up furniture on the ground floor you can't get upstairs.

Got some of the old people raise the chair up plastic feet that’s enough to keep lost stuff out of the water. Reusable and dead quick to set out. Haven’t had any large amounts of water in the home for years though, the little door thingy is doing it’s job.
