What is a fair price for lounge redecoration?

I’ve just been quoted what feels like an exorbitant £2,600 price to redecorate my 19m2 lounge. The job includes plastering over an artex ceiling, removing coving and making good, repairing imperfections in the walls (including some corners which were gnawed by a house rabbit) and painting throughout, including the skirting boards. What do you think is fair price for this kind of job? I’m based in the South East. Thanks in advance.

Sounds pretty reasonable, I'm sure the painting would cost you the best part of 500/600 quid without all the plastering

That is true, however I have previously paid around £600 to have a similar sized room plastered, so it’s unreasonable IMHO to be charging any more than that for a job of this type.

When was that? Years ago?
Checks trade estimates plastering alone on a 18m2 room is £1900.

Couple of years back. I had a flat roof on my lean to porch replaced in December for £2,700, which was a 3 day job for 3 guys. I’m finding it hard to believe this redecorating job should cost similar money.

What is the day rate? If it takes them longer will you psy more? Does this quote include materials? Is it on invoice with VAT?

Plastering can be highly variable depending on the state of it. Painting is more than you would expect too.

It is a little bit on the higher side but it’s not far off. I could complete that job in about 7-8 days and then you have to factor in the cost of materials and the job needs clearing of all the rubbish (old coving etc) which costs. I’m not sure where you live but if I am working in the ULEZ area then I pass that cost on to the client, and that starts to add up quickly.
