What would you do with an underused garage?

I have a 8foot by 16foot garage which is being underutilised. Currently just filled with boxes of stuff.
How would you make the most of it? My thinking is tidy it up and put proper shelves for storage (boring), workshop (fun but for what!) and then thinking of a way to utilise it to make money.

If you want it to make money for you, the boring answer is to let it to someone either to keep their vehicle in, or use it for storage or a business base.

Home gym.

Sex dungeon.. rent it out. Make a killing.
Tall-Paul-UK@reddit
I think killing people in a sex dungeon is a little too niche.
GabberZZ@reddit
My friend sent me a review of a lightweight chainsaw on Amazon earlier. Title was 'Ideal for women'
Not sure how it handles cutting up blokes though.
Forever_a_Kumquat@reddit
If the documentary Hostel is anything to go by there is a big market for such things.
RowRow1990@reddit
But there will still be people who would be down for it, or rather, up for it.
Tall-Paul-UK@reddit
I guess you could charge a premium above standard sex dungeon rates to make up for fewer customers.
Dissidant@reddit
Lynn these are sex people!
Brutal-Gentleman@reddit
Fit cameras.. Charge viewing fees
bowen7477@reddit
Use it more often
SorbetNo7877@reddit
There's nothing boring about proper shelves and organised storage 🤤
zombiejojo@reddit
Indeed. And you can set up a workshop on the other side, to build the shelves, the shelves that you'll need to put away all your lovely workshop gear when you've finished making shelves with it. Perfect excuse. 😄
animalwitch@reddit
I would make my own climbing wall! That is the dream if we buy a place with a garage
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
Haha it’s not the tallest garage! Unless you’re going horizontal..
animalwitch@reddit
Traverses are much more fun for me, so horizontal works fine lol. You can also use the ceiling and make caves/overhangs 😀
ATropicalFish@reddit
Or make it a climbing wall for 3 year olds
the_wally_champ@reddit
What is this, a climbing wall for ants?

Run a sweatshop.

I built a home gym in mine. Squat rack, barbell, dumbbells, bench, DIY cable machine.
nelbertred@reddit
Rent it out. Judging by the amount of cars parked on pavementd and grass verges there is clearly a need for patking places
thegamesender1@reddit
Get a motorcycle, tools to repair it and maybe buy ome at auction and attempt to repair it. Man I wish I had a garage!
Codders94@reddit
Grow weed
pureteckle@reddit
Pop a car in it.
Nobody has ever thought of that. Keeps it out of the way when you're not using it and is harder to steal.Â
CongealedBeanKingdom@reddit
I'd make it into a small recording room. That would be so amazing.
Farty_McPartypants@reddit
to make money, rent it out as a garage?
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
It’s a bit too close to our house to be comfortable renting it out to someone! I have thought of renting out space within it to university students over summer to store their things though.
fabulousteaparty@reddit
Rent it out to local scout/guide groups? - some struggle to access storage for camping equipment and they'd likely only access it a handful of times a year!
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
That’s not a bad idea actually!
ScaryButt@reddit
A dance club I was part of rented out somebody's loft for all the costumes!

This is the correct answer.

Sauna. Bit of an investment but one I'd use every day.
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
I have thought of this - it’s warm in there already so feels like it. I guess I could make it a sauna and tent it out to people in slots
Lonk-the-Sane@reddit
For me, resin printing area, and carving space. For my wife, it would already be a band practice space.
Danandcats@reddit
Home brewery!
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
Haha I have got a demijohn of mead in there currently! Brewing some beer or making proper wine is definitely on my list.

Simple answer then - home bar.

I'd have some bastardised version of a gym/workshop. It's what I'm planning in a self assembly container to replace a falling down wooden shed assembled and designed by people on LSD it seems.
Now I've nothing against mind expanding drugs. I'm just not sure why you would tile a shed nor put it on the bare mud. Or add insulation and plasterboard but mot waterproof it. Or pick entirely non standard glass and door sized for the bolted on greenhouse so it's impossible to replace anything.

I've always wanted a space to do electronics restoration. So like, finding old gameboys and such at car boots and off ebay. Have a space where I can set up things for them to soak and clean, and hopefully make a little bit of money out of it, and reduce electronics waste at the same time. And that's without going into the mental health benefits of working on projects like this.
Fit_Section1002@reddit
Move it to London, spend £500 on ikea furniture, and then rent it out as a three bedroom apartment.

Home gym and save on gym fees. Only makes you money if you already go to the gym lol.
ThePracticalLife_@reddit (OP)
I’ve got a ‘gym’ in an adjustable barbell/dumbbell set, but maybe it’s time for an upgrade..
another_online_idiot@reddit
You could turn it into your very own planetarium and observatory.
A model railway layout.
Restoring old cars / motorcycles etc..
Learn how to weld and become an industrial welding artist and get exhibits in the Tate.
Create your very own awesome cinema room.
Put in a steam room / sauna and plunge pool.
Take up wood working and create really fancy wooden things for all of your family and friends.
A very small air rifle range.
A smaller snooker table.

Madyakker@reddit
Our house used to have a garage but the previous owners converted it into another living room. I'd love to have the garage back and be able to store boxes of stuff in it. Currently my wife thinks the door to the loft is like the door to Narnia and there's unlimited space in there.
