Long commercial xc

Did my long commercial Xc yesterday to KASX then to 4R5 up on Madeline island. If you live in the Midwest it’s 100% worth checking out. Super friendly people all around both airports, unreal views and a great atmosphere for a calm flight. I’m really glad I flew the 20 extra miles to check this out. Truly a Midwest hidden gem.

Nice! Where are you based out of? Mackinaw Island has been on my list for a while, but this is the first I'm hearing of Madeline Island.

I’m based out of 10C. With the winds yesterday it was all of 3.5 hours to go 288NM. It’s really worth checking out there’s nothing on the island really but across the lake is Bayfield which is a really neat town.

Be careful of Mackinaw Island. My brother flew up there with his wife and as they were crossing the water, his mechanical fuel pump failed, the electric boost pump couldn't keep up and ended up smoking his turbo and top end. (Turbo Lance II).
There's no services on the island of any kind. They had to fly in, pull the engine on site, get the rebuild, fly it back in and re-install on site. Took almost a year, start to finish.

Oof, thanks for the warning. Good things to think about when planning a trip, for sure.
Curious how lack of fuel pressure would cause a turbo/top end failure? I could see that happening from lack of oil. Lean condition caused by insufficient fuel?

We went to Mackinac last week and the weather was too shit to fly in so I had to take the ferry like a poor. Now I have to plan another trip back to Michigan and hope for better weather for next time.
